I guess well have to give her a name 20 minutes later "all aboard he reaper raper with the cole train as your captain and epic meal timeas your tour guide because that's fuckin smart
@Oxideist I don't think it'd be as easy as all that. The Thanix Cannon is a powerful gun, but Federation ships have shields that can stand up, at least temporarily, to bombardment by matter/antimatter warheads. Moreover, the Normandy's kinetic barriers wouldn't slow down phasers, meaning that the only defenses the Normandy would have would be speed, maneuverability, and armor. Finally, one would need to consider why the hell the Normandy is attacking any Federation starship in the first place!
@kantlavar well not to be nerdy or anything but a phaser (charged particle beam) is just an advanced projectile/energy hybrid. the charged particle would be stopped by kinetic barriers but energy such as heat etc would get through . A 100% energy weapon would be based in the electromagnetic spectrum such as Gamma Radiation/X-Ray/UV/Visible/NearInfrared/Infrared/Radio/Microwave. Gamma, X-Ray & UV being the most potent as ioning radiation. The rest being the non-ionising radiation.
I remember mass effect 1, got soo attached to that ship, adn the crew, and in the begginging of mass effect 2 i was soooo sad :(, but then when it get to this part i was running around like a little girl...... and was really happy with the new crew in mass effect 2, they became my closest friend.... i really need to get a life thow :D
Hey everybody! I have released my new album 'Progenitor' which has electronic music inspired by great games such as Mass Effect. You can check it out and download it for free on my youtube channel if you're interested!
@IdiotForPalin Then just play it like my Sole Survivor did. "I'm glad you brought me back to life, but I will take every chance I can to fuck your organization over."
Agreed, My Paragade Sole Survivor made it clear that she was working with Cerberus towards the common goal of stopping the Reapers, NOT working for them. She would do things her way, not theirs.
So TIM should have seen my blowing up the Collector base coming. Not to mention I had Miranda on my team there, seeing TIM's face when his most trusted subordinate defected to my side was priceless. I then proceeded to tell him where he could shove it in the aftermath. SO satisfying.
@beowulf500ad In the second one it when it was built it was twice the size. Where as the original could land on the planets surface this one couldn't. It needed a shuttle craft. Similar to landing parties of the star trek franchise. This ship still had SSV Normandys' stealth capability, but because of the extra size it was a tad slower. It was also more comfortable for the crew members and allowed more of them.
I guess we'll have to give her a name.. "The Giant Cock". Oh yeah, this big bad ship with fly straight through the cracks of the Reapers and nail all of them! Haha.. "Through the cracks"
@duncan7599 Honestly? I liked ME2 better. But what's a peanut butter and jelly sandwich without the jelly? Play 'em both if you want the full epicness factor. ME1 had some incredible mind-numbing, goose-bump inducing sections. The storyline in ME2 paled compared to ME1. ME1 made you feel like you were saving the Galaxy. ME2 kind of lost that epic factor but I think it is needed to set up the story in ME3. Overall I liked the gameplay in ME2 better.
love this scene, but every time i see it imagine shepard standing back at the end of the suicide mission, looking at it and thinking, "What a machine...*tear*...ALRIGHT BOYS, BLOW IT UP AND BRING OUT THE NEW SR3"
wow, within 10 seconds of practically rolling off the assembly line the Normandy has surpassed all of the worlds accumulative mileage of motor vehicles over a 100 year period, impressive to say the least.
When Normandy SSR-1 was destroyed, I was even more devastated than when Shepard died (I knew he'd be back, but I didn't know he'd get a new Normandy), but when Normandy SSR-2 was revealed, it made the whole thing worth it. She's a lovely lady with a whole lot of class, sleek as a bird, deadly as a raptor.
I'm really glad you can't rename the Normandy. I remember thinking when Shepard said "Guess we'll have to give her a name", you'd go to a naming screen. After that dramatic music and buildup, imagine if some doofus playing the game named the ship "Your Mom's Giant Cock" or "The Mystery Machine". It would have killed the scene.
1:14-1:18 call it crazy but... that sound/sample sounds oddly familiar but i can't quite remember, I'm almost certain i heard it in some other game soundtrack.... anyone can remember which one?
Not trolling, but was Bioware working with a limited budget when they developed the first game? The production values and presentation in Mass Effect 2 dwarfed ME1. Usually, technical improvements are subtle when they're spread out across the same generational platform. Was the first game originally slated for the original XBox, but later brought over to the XBox 360?
I think it was a combination of a couple different things. Mass Effect was an entirely new IP, so some investors might have been a little uncertain about how much money they could throw at it. Secondly, and this is most likely the deciding factor, Unreal Engine 3 was new for Bioware and they improved a lot in Mass Effect 2.
@GameScenes It also seemed like Bioware was trying to strike out into unfamiliar terrain as well. As far as I can recall, Bioware has never really specialized in real time combat. Their usual gameplay mechanics have always been turn based. Looking back at it, playing through ME1 in all its flawed glory gave me the impression that Bioware was not really sure what they were going for.

Imagine if Batman Arkham Asylum had been designed as a sandbox game and you sort of get the idea of how it would end up had its develpment been stretched thin.
@GameScenes One quality from ME1 that I feel they did right the first time around was their dialogue formula. I found the exchanges to be informative and entertaining, and probably one of the more memorable features in the game. Those games gave me as a player the impression that the main character actually existed in ME's universe, unlike some of Bioware's other franchises like Dragon's Age and KOTOR, where conversations were more of a one way affair. Anything less now will seem second rate.
@GameScenes Bioware also gets a LOT of comments from its user base, and unlike most developers, Bioware actually listens and tries to give the people what they want. Of all the developers whose games I have ever played, Bioware is the only one who seems to improve with each IP and each new game... and I've not been burned yet. With the leap from ME1 to ME2, I'm eagerly anticipating the final installment.
Funny you should say that. I for one was glad of the the streamlining of the micro manangement armour/weapons in the favour of more arcade action/involved storyline. You wouldn't believe how vocal the "lets stop every ten minutes and change our armour/ammo/weapons/ like ME1" I have to say though, the mining sucks lol. Cant wait for PRT 3. My Shephard is the best by the way lol.
@GameScenes You're kind of right. Microsoft Game Studios originally published Mass Effect in 2007 but in October of that year, EA acquired publishing rights for Bioware and their brands. Later in 2008, the PC version was released and was published by EA. EA, one of the biggest publishing/development gaming companies in North America, has far more cash to invest. This combined with Mass Effect's great success and popularity, allowed for bigger budgets and bigger studios for future titles.
@jstephenj Kinda. Believe or not but the whole KotoR/Mass Effect speech//RPG/3rd person shooter dynamic was originally intended for a whole new set of "Blade Runner" games. Warner wanted $8.5 million for the licensing rights even before they saw a storyboard (ME1 cost $8 mill on its own and they (now EA) own the IP). Bioware said no thanks, but were stuck with a license off of Epic games and a 18mnth dev cycle. Hence ME1. The rest is history.

To pretty much echo GameScenes reply, ME1 was the first game Bioware developed using the Unreal Engine and the first game they made using this console generations hardware.
@jstephenj they usually play it safe on the first game of a new franchise, just in case its not as sucessfull, if said franchise proves to be popular, sequels will be MUCH better. Its happened before with games such as Max Payne, or The Witcher.
both were quite popular, but the first games were very rough arround the edges. Then came the sequels and BOOM quite a diference
This cut-scene encapsulates why I am so pissed off with MS. Its sounds really pussyfied as it is only a game, but when I finally got this game home when it came out on the 360, I had a little tingle run up my spine when the new Normandy wa unveiled. After 30+ hours getting my ME1 character upto lvl 60, I had quite an affintiy towards the Normandy, pretty much the same way Han does with the Falcon. Stupid MS with their license means PS3'ers cant experience the same feeling. Comic? Pah.
@woodins2008 Do not assume. I played the original on the Xbox 360 - twice. Sold my Xbox 360 after I got tired of hardware errors. Bought a PlayStation 3.
Bought Mass Effect 2 - after waiting ~6 months. Just experienced this cutscene for the first time tonight.
@grovercm1 So . . . . .by your own admission you played ME1 on another system before getting ME2 on the PS3? Which is the reason why you experienced that feeling right? I think I will carry on assuming, seeing as my assumption still stands - brilliantly ilustrated by yourself. Even If I'm only right 6/10 that still means Im right the majority of the time. I think I will "assume away". Oh, and enjoy the comic.
@woodins2008 No idea what you are talking about now. Your argument was "PS3 users will get nothing out of this cutscene because they have not played the first, therefore they will have had no attachment to the Normandy" and I explained to you how this is not always necessarily the case. Nothing's changed. My Shepard is the same; his class, face, history, and decisions.
If anything, this scene is all the more metaphorical. New Shepard; new ship; new system. The superior one, I think.
@grovercm1 rationalise it however you like mate. maybe we are talking in cross purposes because you havent fully grasped what I'm getting at. Never mind, the internet is full of forthright intellectuals. Have fun.
Fuck the council! who needs Specter status if you have the mightiest ship in Human command, funded by a wealthy origination that DOES try to fight the reapers?
When I played ME 2 for the first and when I saw this scene I was like OMG and I was so proud of Bioware and I almost cried, maybe because music is awesome :D
I haven't played ME2 in so long. I just saw a faction of this scene in the Game Trailers GOTY video and heard this music again. You just know I had to look up this phenomenal moment on Youtube in its entirety. One of the best moments in the game by far.
@xxxMACK88xxx Normandy is bigger and would have the Falcon outgunned, but Normandy's kinetic barriers might not work well against the Falcon's quad-guns. Also, Han just might be crazier than Joker (witness Falcon vs. ISD in Empire Strikes Back).
@kurotatsu726 As much as I love the Falcon, it's a cargo ship, and it's in very crappy condition lol. The Normandy is a brand spanking new prototype warship with stealth technology. Sorry Han.
Pff Star Wars is crap compared to Mass Effect when it comes to story telling, drama, character development and downright awesomeness.
In ME you don't have the ultimate villain being a stupid old fart who basically forms his speeches into either: "Blah blah blah....dark side" or "blah blah blah...complete"
And the hero in ME certainly isn't a whiny asswipe.
most epic scene ever...unveiling of the new normandy! Music is amzing for this scene it gives me goosebumps everytime..i start new characters just for this scene sometimes XD
No matter how many times I play through ME2, I never, EVER skip this scene. After everything you, Joker and Normandy go through, it is one of the best Crowning Moments of Heartwarming and Awesome...and the musical score really just adds to the awesomeness :)
The Normandy truly does belong in the sci- fi ship hall of fame, was truly gutted when the first was destroyed after many hours travelling the universe in the first game, but this new one is superb indeed and I hope it survives Mass Effect3
The Alliance frigates are all named after famous battles, e.g. the Battle of Normandy. The Alliance's way of referring to Humanity's history of conflict. The Normandy SV2 isn't an Alliance ship, but naming after the first Normandy just adds that extra bit of 'we're going to kick your ass'. Awesome.
This scene always puts a tear to my eye. The Music, the Scene itself, the Emotion seeing the Normandy reborn, they blend perfectly. i really hope they use the same orcistra for Mass Effect 3.
this was an interesting twist from the first game. In ME 1 the normandy was essentially Joker's body and the crew his family. Then in this one No longer does the normandy just do that but it also has its own consciousness this time making every one know that shepard may be in charge but the ships real captain is Joker. She can't move with out him nor can he with out her
@Mojito133 you never see games that make a perfict mix of fps and rpg, as well as actually be FUCKING awsome. the music, the story, this game series is one of the few games i respect and always will respect.
The Normandy is a character in its own right. Sure we have memorable ships like the Millennium Falcon and the Enterprise, but we lost the first Normandy; a ship that took us on an unforgettable journey through an interactive galaxy where you influence the outcome of the story and other events. To have it back for this amazing sequel after it was destroyed makes the Normandy more than one of those "memorable trademark ships," but a ship we grow fond of through these incredible adventures!
By far the best looking ship in the entire universe of Sci-Fi.

Not to ruin one of the most awesome moments of the game, but I prefer the SR1 compared to the SR2. Why?
1.SR1 is smaller
2. Smaller->less floors
3. Less floors-> less lifts
4. Less lifts-> less loading times
5. ???
6. Profit!
iHateSpoilerz 5 months ago
@iHateSpoilerz except that the loading times on the SR2 are still shorter than the silly elevator ride down to the engineering deck on the SR1...

Bioware said no thanks, but were stuck with a license off of Epic games and a 18mnth dev cycle. Hence ME1. The rest is history.

To pretty much echo GameScenes reply, ME1 was the first game Bioware developed using the Unreal Engine and the first game they made using this console generations hardware.
dajman15 11 months ago
@jstephenj they usually play it safe on the first game of a new franchise, just in case its not as sucessfull, if said franchise proves to be popular, sequels will be MUCH better. Its happened before with games such as Max Payne, or The Witcher.
both were quite popular, but the first games were very rough arround the edges. Then came the sequels and BOOM quite a diference

Haha, I only got the game today, but seriously, I pretty much cried with joy during the cutscene. Bioware really knows how to make heroic moments.

Comic? Pah.
woodins2008 1 year ago
@woodins2008 Do not assume. I played the original on the Xbox 360 - twice. Sold my Xbox 360 after I got tired of hardware errors. Bought a PlayStation 3.
Bought Mass Effect 2 - after waiting ~6 months. Just experienced this cutscene for the first time tonight.
Cannot experience the same feeling? Please.
grovercm1 1 year ago
@grovercm1 So . . . . .by your own admission you played ME1 on another system before getting ME2 on the PS3? Which is the reason why you experienced that feeling right? I think I will carry on assuming, seeing as my assumption still stands - brilliantly ilustrated by yourself. Even If I'm only right 6/10 that still means Im right the majority of the time. I think I will "assume away". Oh, and enjoy the comic.
woodins2008 1 year ago

Have fun.

Does Normandy 2 really deserve the SR2 designation? After all, it's a Cerberus ship and not an Alliance one....

I haven't played ME2 in so long. I just saw a faction of this scene in the Game Trailers GOTY video and heard this music again. You just know I had to look up this phenomenal moment on Youtube in its entirety. One of the best moments in the game by far.

albatross1977 1 year ago
@xxxMACK88xxx Normandy is bigger and would have the Falcon outgunned, but Normandy's kinetic barriers might not work well against the Falcon's quad-guns. Also, Han just might be crazier than Joker (witness Falcon vs. ISD in Empire Strikes Back).
kurotatsu726 1 year ago

My fav cutscene, the music sends shivers down my spine especially when it gradually shows the Normandy
AnimalBabe93 1 year ago
this was an interesting twist from the first game. In ME 1 the normandy was essentially Joker's body and the crew his family. Then in this one No longer does the normandy just do that but it also has its own consciousness this time making every one know that shepard may be in charge but the ships real captain is Joker. She can't move with out him nor can he with out her
