WOW!! I remember back in the 3rd grade they filmed a segment at my school for the show. They don't make shows like this anymore. Kids nowadays don't know what there missing
EVERYTHING from 'back then' was memorable. to a greater degree these shows had depth that the programs today will never have. how many programs about cops, laywers, the snobishly wealthy can you watch?
furthermore, which one of those programs will you be talking about in your 70's?
i love this era, it will always have permanence in my life.
Seriously, we had so much good television that taught you things in the 80's. What happened to it? Why don't they remake this kind of stuff instead of the nonsense that is out today.
Aren't the kids who watched and loved programs like this, the adults that produce today's children's programming? Why can't they make similar shows today?
I have no idea why the network morons have never released this show to the public to watch on video or DVD. Best show I ever watched growing up - kids today could really benefit from this!
I was looking for a particular segment and found that so e clips are available as "3-2-1 Contact Classroom", but it is $25 per 15 minute episode- at least at the site I saw. The teacher's guide does clearly identify the scenes, especially for those of us who remember the show and might be looking for something particular.
Watching this show EVERY DAY AFTER SCHOOL is what gave me a foundation to answer 80% of ALL of my science test questions/homework assignments from 7th grade all the way through 12th grade... I MEAN it... and because they ran the episodes over and over throughout the years, there was constant memory re-enforcement...
Would you happen to know where I could find an old episode or segment from 321 contact that was about weight and measure? It had the Bigfoot monster truck in it.
321 Contact Square One TV Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego Sesame Street (Before this Elmo crap) Bill Nye The Science Guy Reading Rainbow The Electric Company The Magic School Bus Cyberchase Mr. Wizard School House Rock Arthur Doug Word Girl If everyone just watched these shows as a kid, then the world would be a smarter better place.
My dopamine receptors were getting all tingly in anticipation of each next shot in the sequence. Since I knew what was next, the reward was a payoff each time. Awesome.
Totally loved this show. OMG. Why don't they make shows and kids like this anymore. I get why not the clothes, but joking aside these were quality programs that everyone in the family enjoyed and could learn really great things. Thank God I was a part of the last generation that benfitted from great American television and educaton programs.
I was quite impressed with the opening of "3-2-1 Contact" from the 1979-1980 Era. Mark, Trinie, and Lisa were three of a kind from that era. The first person did well on the show. The latter two people did a brilliant job on the show. These two young ladies were absolute foxes in my book ... even I did not understand anything about young lady being known as a fox during the time. A Brilliant 6!!
Mark! Trina! Lisa! I miss you guys so much!! It's been way too long. Contact really is the answer! I'm 29 and I totally forgot what I knew back when I was seven.
Yes much of today's programming is garbage and does not induce creative thinking and wonder. I am grateful we can still see the wonderful programming of the past via you tube. Today's youth does not know what it isn't getting.
WOW- you've got the intro w/ the original cast- waaaay cool! This was by far my favorite show as a kid... I still remember how certain things "work" because of the lessons taught in this show... =)
back in the 70's and early to mid 80's some people really tried hard and developing people co-existing and building stronger, loving, and smarter kids. Then it all feel apart with Teletubbies and that type of garbage.
I agree. The entire nation is in the toliet now. They broke down color and education barriers, now its Clifford the Big Red Dog and other uneducational nonsense.
All that uneducational nonsense came about because of the expansion of cable and pay television. When children have more choices, it's a struggle to get them interested in educational TV versus SpongeBob. PBS and the Children's Television Workshop broke a lot of ground back then. Unfortunately, there just isn't the same enthusiasm by parents to encourage their children to learn. Look at the decline in young adults entering into scientific career paths...
its a sad state of affairs, I love all that I learned back then and now as a 29 year old adult I really appreciate it. I used to get the 321 contact magazines and loved the facts and challenges they had, where did the world go to?
Thanks so much for this - I haven't heard that title theme for more than 20 years, but it randomly pops into my head sometimes, and I've been meaning to try to track it down for ages.
I could only remember the word "contact" and the "3-2-1" part, but that was enough to lead me here!
geeze i was 9 when i last seen this show, now im 22 and i remember it! Good learnning kids need now! I agree that Dora and all that jazz now on, is stupid!

i have to just agree with you 100%. these shows now just have no character. it's amazing that people have jobs meeting and creating that mess. i mean there were meaningless shows then, but at least it had character. you wake up 5-6am in the morning on saturdays now...and...nothing. :(

Oh, do I ever... That was an obvious favorite, I also liked the liquid nitrogen bit where they needed it for an IR camera AND to freeze a rose or a rubber ball that then shattered.
My god, I haven't heard that song since I was a little kid. I remember one episode where someone was running a lathe, and I made my dad show me how to run his right afterwards. That was the best show.
I have not seen this intro or heard this song since I was about 3 or 4 (1979-80). I became a child once AGAIN!!! Thanks for posting one of the best childrens' shows of ALL time!
it's been 25 years and that song still gets me so fired up, they're like, " do you want know how to stand on your fingers?" and i'm like, "hell fuckin yeah i want to know how to stand on my fingers!!" as i shake my ass to that funky disco beat...
I'm 99% sure this was the show that had an animated short showing a kid sitting on a ledge watching the earth evolve before his eyes... days turn into seconds, years turn into days... something like that. If anyone remembers this and has a clip or a link, I would appreciate it.
Is it just me, or does PBS not know how to come out with cool kids' shows anymore? I'm a mom now & grew up with these 80's shows. I don't know what to watch on PBS with my daughter. It's just lame these days.
Oh...those were the days. I can still remember coming home from school and running in the house to watch this! Oh what it was to be a product of the 80's!
What was the deal w/ the set... was it a school, did they live in some kind of group home? lol The set was a mix between an educational institution and a home.
I used to think the intro to this show was so cool, good effects, etc. Wow. I wonder what they will be able to do 20 years from now? Probably project into your living room!
WOW!! I remember back in the 3rd grade they filmed a segment at my school for the show. They don't make shows like this anymore. Kids nowadays don't know what there missing

If PBS would put the old CTW shows like this on DVD, they'd make a mint during their next fundraiser.

That cat was cool!!!!!!!!
pumpman777 3 years ago
No. That cat had a terrible history of borrowing money and never paying it back. He better hope I dont catch him on the street.

WOW I have not seen this since I was in 1s grade :)
I miss the simple times of the early 80s :(

I'm 99% sure this was the show that had an animated short showing a kid sitting on a ledge watching the earth evolve before his eyes... days turn into seconds, years turn into days... something like that. If anyone remembers this and has a clip or a link, I would appreciate it.

Is it just me, or does PBS not know how to come out with cool kids' shows anymore? I'm a mom now & grew up with these 80's shows. I don't know what to watch on PBS with my daughter. It's just lame these days.

It's strangely sad to look back at this show and realize how influential it was. That is sad because the number of these moments may stop.

Hearing this song 3-2-1- contact makes me sad.
I don't know why...
I used to watch this show when I was a kid though.

Oh...those were the days. I can still remember coming home from school and running in the house to watch this! Oh what it was to be a product of the 80's!

What was the deal w/ the set... was it a school, did they live in some kind of group home? lol The set was a mix between an educational institution and a home.

incatribe2006 4 years ago 2
How any Trini's do you see anyways? (other than the old school yellow power ranger)
wtfanman60 4 years ago
Trini? I had a major crush on Lisa. She's way cuter.

I used to think the intro to this show was so cool, good effects, etc. Wow. I wonder what they will be able to do 20 years from now? Probably project into your living room!
