Do you have to tune a ring modulator to the key or note in order to get it to sound like a sound that makes sense. I feel like when I play a chord or something along the lines it kinda has a mind of it's own. how do you get it to make sense?
So you can use this pedal to detune a guitar without actually detuning it and it sounds authentic? Because I've been looking for a pedal that can do that. I don't really want to have to use a ton of different guitars to play different songs. I can get a good detuned sound out of guitar rig's digitech whammy emulator but when I'm not playing through my computer I hear the digitech whammy doesn't do this very well in real life. Does the ring thing also do half steps?
I'm slowly becoming obsessed with this pedal the more I hear it. This must be the billionth odd time Time I've watched this vid. I want one now so bad!
that sound at the end is is so cool. it sounds like he set it to tune to the tonic note of the key he was in? so every time he played a not it also played the root note in harmony? can someone corret me on this?
how much do you reccomend a expression pedal? witch one are you using? i just got the ring mod and i really like it but i feel like im missing out without an expression pedal
When I first saw this pedal I dismissed it as ring mods are unusable IMO. I just watched this video and am floored. As soon as I get my paycheck, I'm ordering one.
@Effectology actually i'm not sure what a ring mod is exactly... does it add a note to your sound while you're playing or does it changes the envelop sort of like a FM synthesis? or neither maybe...
God. Go get Jack Conte to do a demo. I can understand it more when he's incorporating it with his music, rather then a bunch of Windows Movie Maker animation and writing.
Given that this can tune a standard-tuning guitar down to B, does that mean you can control how many semi-tones the pitch gets dropped (not just octaves) ? Another way to ask what I want to know: Can I tune just as easily to C or Bb?
An auto tuning RM is one of the best ideas ever imagined if you want to use a ring mod musically. Got one of these on the way now! Thanks!

@Jeedan yeah, essentially that's what ring mods do. I honestly think it's one of my favorite effects on a guitar.

I really want this pedal. All because of the tune-able ring mod. So much you could do with that sound.

Bill, Im curious about your final settings for the last clip you played with the tuning to the guitar to make that dreamy, spacey, sound;
What pedals were you using besides the with the Ring Thing?
What amp/guitar were you using?
And were the settings displayed after the clip exactly the same ones heard on the audio?
Thanks!

@TheGaypers
the last clip used a Soul Preacher compressor in front of the Ring Thing and a Stereo Memory Man/Hazarai for delay after.
I used a Ibanez Jem guitar and went direct into the board with an amp simulator set to sound like a very clean Fender amp.
The Ring Thing settings shown are what I used.
Thanks for watching

the riff around 2:25 is *sweet* - can you elaborate on the ingredients? sounds like pitch shifting plus a little delay and reverb. maybe a capo too?
nice pedal btw!
fjurden 1 year ago
@fjurden
That clip was just the Ring Thing and small amount of delay from a Stereo Memory Man.
I played it around the 7th fret with out a capo.
If you dig that tone you will love the Ring Thing!

@mouldeck
It beats a note against the note you play and that creates two other notes of different pitches.For a full explanation Google Ring Modulation.
There are some great articles on line about the effect.

Yes you can tune it to any note you want +or - two octaves!
On top of that you can save the pitch you pick as a preset.

@sazma It dosen't drop the guitars tuning it drops the pitch of the oscillator.
