  • An auto tuning RM is one of the best ideas ever imagined if you want to use a ring mod musically. Got one of these on the way now! Thanks!

  • Do you have to tune a ring modulator to the key or note in order to get it to sound like a sound that makes sense. I feel like when I play a chord or something along the lines it kinda has a mind of it's own. how do you get it to make sense?

  • 3;07, breaking Benjamin tone!!!!!!!

  • Insane!!!! Awesome.

  • The Ring Thing has earned a permanent place on my pedalboard.

  • @raymondjamesrivera me too. It's like 8 beautiful analog pedals in one. brilliant idea. I love it.

  • HAWTNESS! I want me one!

  • So you can use this pedal to detune a guitar without actually detuning it and it sounds authentic? Because I've been looking for a pedal that can do that. I don't really want to have to use a ton of different guitars to play different songs. I can get a good detuned sound out of guitar rig's digitech whammy emulator but when I'm not playing through my computer I hear the digitech whammy doesn't do this very well in real life. Does the ring thing also do half steps?

  • @deadwhite ha totally agree! Bill Ruppert is so good he makes me wanna buy all his stuff

  • I'm slowly becoming obsessed with this pedal the more I hear it. This must be the billionth odd time Time I've watched this vid. I want one now so bad!

  • This should just be called the Morello Pedal.

  • bill!!! the genius!!!

  • Can you demo every pedal ever made? Please :)?

  • Wow.......

  • 2:03 killing in the name solo?!

  • Best demo ever.

  • this is about the only RM I've heard used that sounded in anyway musical or usable - an excellent job on demo-ing this unit

  • tom morello ftw

  • That's a truly awesome demo, Bill! Now I MUST have one...... another step towards divorce, but worth the risk.

     Thanks again, Kit Morgan

  • that sound at the end is is so cool. it sounds like he set it to tune to the tonic note of the key he was in? so every time he played a not it also played the root note in harmony? can someone corret me on this?

  • @Jeedan yeah, essentially that's what ring mods do. I honestly think it's one of my favorite effects on a guitar.

  • I really want this pedal. All because of the tune-able ring mod. So much you could do with that sound.

  • Nice!

  • Awesome Demo!! (as usual) Does this get pinch and natural harmonics when using for drop-tuning?

  • hey whatever happned to the "electric mistress" i had that pedal bwt and loved it....haven't seen nor heard of it

  • i hate when they don't use it like i intend to... this demo is good, but useless for me.

  • Omyfreakinggosh. This freaking rapes PGS demos.

  • @coooorey I agree. PGS demos are so boring.

  • damn damn damn i wish that Bill Ruppert and Jexus from the synth demos would start a band with each other. That would make the coolest band ever.

  • That last setting totally sells this pedal. I love the sound.

  • @cosmogang Could not agree more, that last setting is hands down one of the coolest noises I've ever heard.

  • how much do you reccomend a expression pedal? witch one are you using? i just got the ring mod and i really like it but i feel like im missing out without an expression pedal

  • @chase1410

I would try one of the Boss exp pedals.

They will give you all the whammy effects.

  • i want every ehx pedal there is even though you cant use 99% of them in normal guitar playing

  • Bill, Im curious about your final settings for the last clip you played with the tuning to the guitar to make that dreamy, spacey, sound;

What pedals were you using besides the with the Ring Thing?

    What amp/guitar were you using?

And were the settings displayed after the clip exactly the same ones heard on the audio?

    Thanks!

  • @TheGaypers

the last clip used a Soul Preacher compressor in front of the Ring Thing and a Stereo Memory Man/Hazarai for delay after.

I used a Ibanez Jem guitar and went direct into the board with an amp simulator set to sound like a very clean Fender amp.

The Ring Thing settings shown are what I used.

    Thanks for watching

    Bill

  • cool i could use this as a whammy pedal!

  • i like the intro. its pretty

  • @Tracebebo

Thanks that's the HOG in freeze mode.

Check out the new Freeze pedal if you like that sound!

    Bill

  • @Effectology oh yeah

  • is there a way to modify the note pitch after autotunning it by pressing the tune knob?

  • freaking killer tone, sounds SICK!! 1:55

  • I might have to stop watching Bill's demos...they make me want to buy every box...but I play blues...somebody stop me!

  • I dig the knobies!

  • last like 30 seconds of this video.... :)

  • When I first saw this pedal I dismissed it as ring mods are unusable IMO. I just watched this video and am floored. As soon as I get my paycheck, I'm ordering one.

  • the riff around 2:25 is *sweet* - can you elaborate on the ingredients? sounds like pitch shifting plus a little delay and reverb. maybe a capo too?

    nice pedal btw!

  • @fjurden

That clip was just the Ring Thing and small amount of delay from a Stereo Memory Man.

I played it around the 7th fret with out a capo.

If you dig that tone you will love the Ring Thing!

  • what makes sound that very last note played so low, like pitched 1 or 2 octaves down?

  • Comment removed

  • mouldeck

    Thats the Ring Mod!

  • @Effectology actually i'm not sure what a ring mod is exactly... does it add a note to your sound while you're playing or does it changes the envelop sort of like a FM synthesis? or neither maybe...

  • @mouldeck

It beats a note against the note you play and that creates two other notes of different pitches. For a full explanation Google Ring Modulation.

There are some great articles on line about the effect.

  • @Effectology

    oh thanks a lot!

i'll do the research for sure, that could be pretty interesting with the tuning switch function.

  • I love the baritone tuning. It's the tuning i'm using right now (Bb).

  • I want this so bad

  • What I love about ring mods is how they can be used on everything. Not just guitars but drums sound awesome for one, as do synths.

  • @downfader2

When I get the money Im thinking about buying this for my acoustic/electric ukulele

  • God. Go get Jack Conte to do a demo. I can understand it more when he's incorporating it with his music, rather then a bunch of Windows Movie Maker animation and writing.

  • The Jack Conte demos are cool, but this is about as straight-foreword as it gets, and much more informative.

  • EPIC

  • When is this coming out and how much? I'm glad I waited to get a ring mod because this sounds amazing!

  • Yum yum yum! =)

  • so can this do whammy like pitch shifting, octaves and harmonizing, as well as the dissonant ring mod thing?

  • sure can.

  • This guy actually makes this unit sound really usable! Bill rocks!

  • i really want this!!!

  • man, this pedal sounds like the best pedal they have made recently

  • Given that this can tune a standard-tuning guitar down to B, does that mean you can control how many semi-tones the pitch gets dropped (not just octaves) ? Another way to ask what I want to know: Can I tune just as easily to C or Bb?

  • Yes you can tune it to any note you want +or - two octaves!

On top of that you can save the pitch you pick as a preset.

  • @sazma It dosen't drop the guitars tuning it drops the pitch of the oscillator.

  • sry my bad

  • bill ruppert is THE EH guy!!!

  • amazing demo!I need one!!!!!!!!!!! how much???

  • you can get that cool tone he has in the beginning with a fast reverse delay on the Memory Man with hazarai. Great, unique sound.

  • sweet pedal

  • Cool! I want one.

  • Who doesn't? hehehehe

    Very cool demosntration of using.
