Ha, I've done this same thing except I made it into a bottle rocket (IE stick taped to the canister). I carefully placed it on a nail in a 2X4 several feet off the ground. I simply reached over with a hammer and taped it lightly into the nail. Rocket would fly really well, unless you didn't hit it hard enough. To light a hit and the hole is so small there is no thrust and the cartridge just hisses. The cannon idea is probably safer than what I was doing.

i found a better way... tape a stick to the co2 cartrige. then tape a straw to the end of a bb gun. put the stick down the straw and put the end of the co2 cartrige into the barel of the bb gun. then u shoot the bb gun it pierces the cartridge and shoots like a rocket. works pretty well and dosnt take much effort

I got a little bored so I calculated your height based on 10 secs, and the CO2 canister not accelerating after leaving the launcher.

Projectile height is about 405'

Muzzle velocity would be about 110mph

Muzzle velocity is a bit slower, but it's close enough. (calculations based on CO2 cartridge not accelerating after leaving launcher)

Fast enough I don't want to get popped in the eye by one.

Of course your wrong Ubernoob. Its basically whats considered rocket science. Its complexity lies in the fact that as the "rocket" (in this case the co2 cartridge) flies, it changes mass because it is using its fuel. So for every second that passes, the constants change (eg: the mass) Also, whats to say it didnt "hover" like it did in the video for 10 sec at the top of the flight as the pressure reduced before expiring? Ur calc' is only valid for a vertical flight with no propulsion in a vacuum.

u must also consider the other key factors

example the speed of the wind

, the amount of air resistances that the object has due to its surface around

, and that its in and other door facility thus u cant control the environment around you and in order for ur calculations to be correct u must be in a controlled area which has no air thus removing the friction and no wind therefore not changing the direction of the object , and the angle of the projection so that it will fly upwards 90degrees

You're wrong because assuming "half time going up, half time coming down" assumes all acceleration happened immediately on launch and not for a prolonged time while ascending. And you don't know for how long it was giving thrust.

And as has been pointed out... air resistance changes things quite a bit too.
