One thing about this scene that bothered me was how did Dunbar know which way tp go? Those open plains, he could have headed away from the Souix camp. BUt he just happened to stumble upon them.
A mother screams, "Wasichu, Wasichu!", yes the white people are coming and things will .never be the same. Treaty of 1868 is but a few years old, guaranteeing that "As long as the rivers flow and the grass grows, the land West of the Missouri River belongs to the Sioux(Lakota)" I grew up in South Dakota, mixed ancestry. As proud as I am of the Lakota, I am ashamed of the United States.
This movie is perhaps my all-time favorite. I never tire of seeing it. The performances were amazing and I was especially impressed with Mary McDonnell.
She should have gotten all the awards- the scene where she is "re-learning" to speak english, that takes real talent to make it seen believable. she is truely wonderful!
ive never understood what it was that she did- did she slice her wrist?

@sophab0656 -Yes, her husband had been killed, I think by the Pawnee, which was the same tribe that had killed her biological parents.
