  • I can't decide between the sweet honey and the wampler ecstasy! what would you recomend for blues and indie inspired punk-rock leads

  • Mad Professor. Way better mid range response.

  • Mad prof !

  • also you should compare crybaby classic and hendrix CB

  • i just recieved my sweet honey today and it's exactly what i wanted for a low gain pedal that doesn't sound all shity when you play complex chords.. great for the funky type shit.

  • i'd like to see a vid were gearmandude tells us his top 10 pedals out of all the thousands he's played.

  • The volume differences on these pedals ruined the demo. Louder volume gets perceived as better tone. A lot like those Visual Sound demos.

  • For a gear demo, I wanna hear a dry sound that showcases the sound of the pedal I might spend some hard earned cash on. Reverb can enhance your sound in the right context, just like any effect can, but this is not it.

@JackOrion0670 Throw some reverb on, then you have the same dime a dozen rock licks... with reverb.

  • @rexasul amen...i guess some people don't understand the POINT of these demos

  • Dear GMD, what is the difference between the fire red fuzz and the candy apple fuzz?

  • Reverb sucks? Tell that to Ry Cooder. I guess if your into soulless run of the mill dime a dozen rock licks then reverb may not be your thing. To each is his own I suppose. Cheers!

  • Reverb rules

  • The best segment of overdrive comes at 8.03 directly after Yip.

  • hey, could u compare sweet honey mad prof v.s. mi audio blues pro?

  • @stevalium Why? Totally different pedals. If you're looking for a general "blues" sound and don't want to spend too much money get the MI. If you want a pedal that'll make your amp sound like a smaller overdriven amp (not a lot of gain, flubby low end, responds drastically different to different pickups and extremely sensitive to pick attack) get the Honey Bee. If you want a version of the HB that has more gain and less quirky frequency stuff going on get the Sweet Honey.

  • Reverb is overrated.

  • Mad professor is the one I'd take! It's awesome.

  • The Professor killed the bee!

  • SWEET HONEY - gain sounds slightly grittier at less than 50%

    HONEY BEE - sounds smoother

***like always, it depends on what other gear you're using, how all of your gear complements/works against each other, what sound you're looking for, how it feels, and what you're willing to pay.***

  • nice sounding pedals, but for half the price you can get the same or better sound from a Texas Holdem ZZ. I bought one at CRP music in NJ. Made by some small company called Compulsive Audio.

  • why? cause reverb sucks.

    GMD your too funny!

  • why no reverb??? " Coz reverb SUX" hahahahah thats the funniest line i have heard in ages...

  • what are the guitar straps, I know you menshion them sometimes but I dont get it.. ,-)

  • "Because reverb sucks". Actually, I think that is the only thing I hate about GMD's gear demos, to flat, dry and dead sounding. He needs reverb something fierce. Not tons of surf reverb, just enough to sound like he's in a room, not a box! Gear Mann Dude, get over your reverb phobia, it's killin' your tone on every gear demo you have!

  • @yjmsrv yes! great idea...b/c everyone uses the same reverb and we'd definitely know what the pedal sounds like if reverb was on...i get what you're saying, but thats the point of a demo to hear that pedal and ONLY that pedal...i don't want 23 other effects running while i'm trying to hear this pedal...thats why people like GMD, Andy @ PGS, and burgermann are so popular...b/c they know how to do these demos right

  • @yjmsrv no, If you play live, Reverb do suck some times. Use the natural sounding.

  • Gearmandude, you always play great simple riffs that show the gear and go back and forth plenty. Great job as always.

But your voice freaks me out because I know you're not Jack Black but you sound dead on like him. It would be fun to call his record company and make a deal for him sometime. Ask his manager out to lunch or something? Punk'd!!!

  • SHOD BY FARRRRRRRRRRRRR!

  • That SHOD has "I Don't Need No Doctor" screaming from it. Perfect with the Les Paul.

  • Where do you even buy BJFE pedals? I can't find em anywhere on the web.

  • as nice as both pedals are, not worth the 300+ price tag.

  • GMD, does the best job on the tube of really demonstrating the difference between various pedals. and he rocks....

  • Sweet Honey

  • Sweet Honey for sure...

    Warmer, thicker, thumpier.....

    Ok, ballsier....gutzier....

    ;)

  • "We're going to keep the reverb off, why? 'Cuz reverb sucks"

Haha I gotta love you GMD.

  • Great pedals! The sweet honey doesn't seem to respond to pick attack in the same way, it's louder but less defined. Overall the honey bee seems like a better pedal, sweeter and more amp like than the sweet honey. great job GMD!

  • Oops! I'm sorry I keep forgetting to put 2 n's in your name gearmanndude. It's an honest mistake, but I'll try to make sure I don't do it any more. ;-)

  • I've been trying to figure out who gearmandude really is (I know it;s not Jack Black...but he sounds a little like him) and I've come to the conclusion that gearmandude is really Martin Sexton (he sounds a little like Jack Black too). I could be wrong, but the similarities are just too strong to ignore. If I'm right about it, we'll just keep it our little secret so we can keep the mystery going, huh gearmandude!? :D

  • That les paul looks great!

  • :53 to 1:05

  • Sweet Honey sounds godly at 3:50

  • Can't you just by all the mad professor pedals and send them to me? I'm so fucking broke...haha :P

  • hahahaha 8:03

  • Sweet Honey seems more hi-fi and open sounding. Thanks for the side by side. What kind of pop filter did you use for the burp? :)

  • i dont dig either of them to be honest, but to me the sweet honey sounds better

  • Sweet Honey has a more compressed tone, but it's like fuzzier and louder at the same time. As overdrive pedals, I don't think I'd want either of um..

  • Wrong amp and wrong guitar for these pedals. The Sweet Honey doesn't excel in anything, is just another OD pedal. The Honey Bee is unique, is for the few clever guys who like saggy and warm distortion. Also the sweet honey is louder and you may be influenced a lot by that...

  • oh so there are certain guitars and amps that you are supposed to use for demos? wow i didnt know that. i was pretty sure that you can use whatever combination you want...

  • yes all demos on youtube should be done with a gibson les paul with single coil pickups and use a crate solid state amp. every one knows that.

  • I guess its hard to sense sarcasm through text lol.

  • single coils dont come in les pauls, except for p90's which are just two single coils on top of each other, which is pretty much a sideways humbucker.

  • ...you don't know what you're talking about. a p-90 is just a large single coil.

  • it would be cool to have strat pickups in a Les Paul

  • Check out some PRS guitars they make one like that.

  • Those are the newer p-100s. A real p-90 is a single coil.

  • I don't think he's talking about demos in general...I think he means to bring out the best in these pedals...at least to his tastes.

  • What guitar and amp combinations do you feel would be more appropriate and why?

  • ANY amp and guitar combination. Pedals are supposed to, in my eyes, bring out the best in the guitar and amp, not the other way around.

  • REVERB SUCKS!!!

  • Sounds like the SHOD is way more "open"! Sounds great!

The honey Bee is a classic though.

  • great demo/comparison video.

i like the honeybee better with single coils.

but that SHOD is just RAGING with humbuggies...

    RAWK!

  • SWEET PICKIN''

  • Lol, Awesome Tones, Thanks Germanndude :p .

  • haha : "why????? because THE REVERB SUCKS"

  • I think for the dollar amount that these pedals are fetching that I'd want something a little more dramatic than a stock Boss or MXR pedal. That said, however, I agree with gearmanndude that the Mad Professor SHOD is the clear winner.

  • sounds like a pedal that would be good for flirtin with disaster man awesome pedals ss72

  • I agree - great southern rock type OD

  • Aw comaaaan gmd you promised some heavy boxes of dirt dude! wheres that metal! :)

  • We want Metal, We want Metal:)

    Sorry dude, couldn't resistXD

  • I've bought and sold 3 Honey Bee's. In this video comparison I'd say the SHOD just stung the HBOD. SHOD sounds much better to my ears.

  • Reminds me of my first girlfreind's box

  • Great foot work GMD

  • Did I mention that I worship the devil?

  • I run all the audio from these demos through a reverb unit

  • Im gonna go out on a limb here... but i think i heard a bit of Christian Slater mixed in there that time! :D

    Gotta love those reviews dude!

  • thanks for the great demo.

both are great sounding but the sweet honey took away the natural sound of the guitar to give it a more fuller but slightly processed sound. the honey bee was quieter but more pleasing to my ears, a little more clear and defined from string to string,

    peace,

    rich

  • reverb sucks
