  • Great art is in the form of shock value.

  • Crispin Ranch!

  • This movie looks very very creepy...

  • Think i could do the interviewer's job better? and i'm painfully shy...lol :))

  • Think i could do the presenter's job better than him? and i'm painfully shy lol... :--)

  • who the fuck does that interviewer think he is?

  • where can i find this movie? i hope its as interesting as his music

  • Layne!!!

  • I love CHG's work and think he's swell, and I haven't seen What is It? so this is all out of context,

but seeing this clip makes me ask, "Does Mildred Pierce know you have her fur?"

    :)

  • Let's be honest. Media in America sells one way and one way only. And it's designed to a certain audience that have such low IQ's it makes terry shivo look like a rocket scientist. Cripsin knows this and likes to get involved with projects that do not involve talking animated animals that sing and dance for childrens amusement. If anything we need more people like glover to help save what America considers "culture" Not every summer movie can have big explosions or guns and dumb blond babes.

  • The interviewer is a pretentious hipster douche.

  • Did you see those women with giant breasts? Holy shit!

  • @summerease

This movie, "What Is It?" and his other film, "It is Fine! Everything is Fine" are not available on Netflix. They are only available to see when Crispin presents his Big Slide Show. If these movies were available on DVD or on the internet, Crispin would probably have a heart attack.

  • i would love to be in crispin's movie! XD

  • Crispin should've bitch slapped that moron.

  • VICE Sucks!

  • Interviewer sux

    This movie is on netflix

  • @summerease no it is not.

  • salad dressing? what a fucking idiot !!!!......

  • damn this interviewer is an asshole

  • crispin glover is brilliant, i love him.

  • I'm bound and determined to see him in Milwaukee on the 22. <3

  • Where can I get a copy of "What Is It?" I've looked for it everywhere but I can't seem to find it. Thanks. : )

  • Yeah, have a look on Pirate Bay but then again it may be bullshit. It's a shame that the only way to see it is for Crispin Glover to visit your town.

  • Every interview I watch, he seems to become more astoundingly intelligent, and still graceful at dealing with those who are not.

Crispin Hellion Glover takes my breath away.

  • True, he can take limitless abuse from jackasses and still be gracious and good natured.

  • DRIBBLE

  • ....The interviewer is from Vice, home of mean spirited bastards and zero journalism. What did you expect?

  • that guy scared me in Charlie´s Angel ¡¡¡¡

    is like a Pervert ¡¡¡¡ :S

  • @soullify3

UM he has been around way before that shitty remake.

  • This interviewer is mean-spirited without cause. I see nothing wrong with the film, it's just one man's opinion and he spent a fair amount of money to bring his vision to life. Crispin will do any sort of press to promote his work, and including a conversation with rude gentleman.

  • @zonkersoneye yes, the interviewer's rude. crispin always handles hecklers with kindness and class. this is also evident in his letterman appearances. :) his ability to handle rudeness is yet another reason to admire him so much.

  • This Vice dude sucks, like were not watching it to hear your sophomoric attempts at witty counterpoint, were actually watching it for Crispin Glover. Man Vice sucks SOOOO much dick, like it sucks Moose dick in regions of space yet to be discovered, as a media entity it is about as important as a fictitious flea in a book that someone forgot to write about. You're an insult to the city of New York. Now go buy some neon leggings and check out a Matt and Kim album you wankers.

  • @v2schrader gahahahahahaaa neon leggings....

  • @v2schrader Wow, check your self before you wreck yourself. Is it not better then the 87 Letterman interview?!?! Anywho, Crispin says much of what he's already stated and can be heard elsewhere, not much new here from him.

  • the interviewer is quite the d-bag

  • ok crispin glover is insanly awesome have you seen how flexible he is and like how he dances and really gets into his character watch like mike then epic movie and tell me if you see how well he gets into different characters

  • i absolutely love him. :) i didn't know he dances, too? wow! i consider him the most talented actor alive, today. :) i just adore him. unfortunately i've not seen 'like mike' or 'epic movie' yet,but i've seen him in lots, i.e. 'willard,' and 'wizard of gore,' and the two 'charlie's angels'...it is clear how completely he changes, to get into his characters. he is just totally awesome. :) i love finding people here who appreciate him too. he's grossly underrated.there's only one crispin glover.

  • I'm not going to pretend to be a huge fan of Crispin Glover but the interviewer was being an ass. I love how Crispin ends the interview himself and says "thanks for your great interview.. extremely intelligent conversations."

  • i noticed that too.first time i saw the interviewee end the interview.i think crispin was trying to hide his irritation, yet remained gracious...although he did get that in, what u quoted above. :)i like that he remained the gentleman to the end, so it showed off the interviewer as being the jerk. :) chg really has class. he's such a great guy.

  • Crispin Glover is amazing...seriously.

  • so true

  • actually , if you haven`t noticed, he

promotes his film very smartly, and

doesn`t make an issue out of the fact those

actors have trysomy.symptomns. he is stricktly 1 on 1 with his project and his peeps.

whereas the vice guy didn`t get anything in a decade.

  • there is a fine line between being mental and being a genius, an even finer line can be applied to the slight difference between being a mental genius or a genius mental, if there is such a thing.

see the bollocks and touch them, if they move then you've managed to stimulate the beast...

  • i think a better way of putting it is -> there's a little bit of genious in every madman, the same way that there's a little bit of madman in every genious :)

    ...you're welcome... :P

  • Are you really in Lithuania?

  • Glover = Legend! x

  • Umm what? If you really went out with him I doubt you would be writing this on YOUTUBE. Especially saying he's "a little scary." Have any more details or pics?

  • Glover is nothing but a pure legend!!!! CRISPIN I LOVE U XXX

  • You are such an inspiration 2 me!! u r beautiful crispin xxx

  • Crispin is one smart motherfucker

  • C'mon gloverites join the crispin religion! The link/url/website is in my profile, we need you over there! ;) thanks

  • Wow, that interviewer is so hip! I wonder if he'd let me piss in his hair.

  • Crispin is a genius

    5/5

  • the interviewer is a cock, he doesn't like Glover at all

  • He is king weirdo and all the other little weirdoes wish they were as weird as he.

  • Why does everyone want Crispin Glover's cock so badly? The concept of a bunch of downsies running around in costumes kind of makes me laugh. The naked elephant headed thing was kind of awesome though.

  • honestly this guy is a fucking genius...honestly. i never laughed harder at a trailer before!

  • i like his voice..hahahaha

  • you're not alone:)

  • The interviewer is a moron. Just... my god. Horrible choice.

Uhh.... salad dressing... umm... yeah you're not full of bullshit...umm... uh... yeah i was like 4 when your first book came out... umm... yeah..

    what a douche.

  • haha u said it better then me lol

  • That interviewer guy, why is he so one dimensional. Crispin has alot going on upstairs, he's brilliant. <3

  • @sarahfrank

That interviewer guy cant help it.

its not his fault he's black. :p

    D'OH!

  • @sarahfrank problem is, he has to use the media that's in place to promote his film, if he wants people to see it... and he has to work on common projects to finance his stuff... because not a lot of people are intelligent enough to actually see, at first glance, what he's doing... Myself included... I havent got a fucking clue what he's doing, other than when he's explaining it to me, then I can see it... but whether I understand it or not doesnt matter, I can still watch it and be entertained.

  • Crispin is awesome but the interviewer is such a hipster douche!

  • Got Holy Mountain?

  • I like what he does. His characters are always well chosen, like Depp. His art requires a little more attention than your average Van Damme movie, that's why too many are turned off right from the start. Bjork often got the same kind of reaction from the public.

  • I will prolly never see this film since I promised myself I'd NEVER touch acid again...

    Crispin is KING of weird.

  • shut the fuck up

  • you need to go to a library, apply for a card, and check out a fucking dictionary

  • VICE so fucking cool/hot/slick/mad/dope/crazy..whatever vice(c)

  • the closet thing to shock in 'What is it' is probably the scene with the elephant-mask porn star masturbating the retarded guy, but even that has a kind of strange beauty. why should this be wrong?

also never in my life have i felt more pathos for a snail in mourning :(

crispin glover is a creative genius.

  • I love VICE!!

  • Perhaps the "lemmings" of society such as the dull interviewer don't understand the genius of Crispin Glover yet?

  • Is the cameraman giggling before 6.20?

And the reporter says what around the handshake?

This is sowhat unprofessional to even use the word Bullshit in an interview.

-Mr. Hellions mentionig the way he works on his projects is the most important thing in all the art he worked on before. my props here:....)

  • Is this guy married? Do you think someone as intellectual as he is above marrying someone just on the basis of looks?

  • rubin & ed has to be the greatest bad film of all time.

  • Anyone know the answer to the Clowny clown clown puzzle?

  • Are you joking? Common sense.

  • I find it interesting that Crispin looks so closely at the film industry and our society, determining that it's soft and careful, all-the-while his original perception is distinctly off from the average movie-goer. I do very much appreciate his idea and projects, but I think it's important for him to question his need to make others feel questioned: what is the question? It's not the same as: what should the question be?

  • OMG I wanna fuck that ellyfant...

  • Does Vice have some secret tie with that anti-smoking campaign or is this dude workin double duty as a hipster/pointless youth activit? Any thoughts?

  • SUREALISTIC....

  • this film looks so beautiful. i wish he could distribute it.

  • I don't care how smart he is this is boring soooooo boring Oh my god. I didn't even hear anything he said because I just tuned out. I think the acid idea is good though. Maybe with that I might find this guy a little more stimulating. Maybe...

  • He's smart and courageously true to his artistic vision. Like all great artists,he is failed by the ignorance of the culture that only thinks in lowest common denominations...In just one generation Hollywood and tv have actually made people dumber than they used to be.Honestly, who do you think is smarter Letterman or Glover?

  • he might be an actual artist. I'd drop acod w/him. let's see, eh?

  • youd drop a what with him??

  • acid, man. this guy is faaaaaar out

  • oh...so you meant acid?! Ok..now I get it. I dont think he was doing acid though. that's just him,Crispin glover, talking.

  • Actually, I looked at the David Letterman interview. It made me laugh so hard I started checking out other stuff. This interview hipped me to the fact that this guy is some genius type so I'd like to hang out & do acid w/him.

  • i cant believe it. he actually sounds kind of smart

  • Crispin Glover is very versatile in the Media. his books include:Rat catching,Oak mot, What it is and how it's done, and more. I love all of them!He is very talented and should put his film "what is it?" in theaters. Let me know what you think. THX

  • i'd love to see it on a big screen.

  • Right!? Then you wouldnt have to be a certain age.

  • He's not on drugs, he's just a pretentious twat. Listen to the way he talks. The way he dresses too...it's so fake and calculated and forced. This whole lame persona he's developed is even more pathetic and annoying now that he's over 40. It was moderately entertaining when he was a kid. But he's a fucking joke now, "What is It" sucked dog testicles. I'd almost give him credit for swindling all those hipsters who worship him but they are too easily fooled.

  • I'm intrigued, what simulated this vitriolic rant against Crispin Glover? Do you know him personally, or are you basing everything on a few media snippets you caught in your spare time?

  • Those who dis the Glover have no soul. Fact. The great thing about Crispin is that, despite what many think, he has never made a point to try and be weird and kooky, he is simply who he is. It just so happens his genuine character is of a type that is often emulated by pretentious twats who wish they possessed a fraction of the originality he manages to express with no effort whatsoever. Love him or hate him, that's fine. just don't accuse him of being disengenuous.

  • I agree. He's an artist. That is quite, quite simply what he is. You have to approach his work as art. Critical commentary over his work would be useful but criticism is just useless. It's art. If you hate it - appreciate the value of that provocation...instead of simply dismissing any work as "trash" or "unworthy." All art is worthy.

  • Pretentious? lol oh wow. I think it is you who come off as pretentious, not him. He doesn't show even the slightest bit of arrogance in my opinion. You speak as if you have seen the movie. Why don't I believe that?

Why would I bet that you're just here to make fun of someone who you don't like the looks of? Go watch Nascar or American Football you prole.

  • lol did you just call him a prole? awesome. you get a thumbs up from me

  • brilliant genious!!! actually

  • Excellent. :)

  • Crispin Glover is about the most interesting person to listen to.

And What Is It was almost hypnotizing. I actualy liked having to put the story together.

And..though this is going to be random...

...watching the snails being salted was cool...

  • i'm so glad this interview exists as evidence that (though a bit eccentric) crispin glover is an intelligent, artistically driven (and completely original) pop culture icon. Perhaps savior? And you should see him freak out david letterman circa 86. Wild stuff.

  • many many movies with non-'good and evil' material have been funded by corporations. corporations just want money, they're not moral. vice vs. the world again

  • could you name a few. just curious.

  • exactly, they can't. There are very few that dare to have those kind of themes... the movie Happiness comes to mind.

  • Thank you for posting this... I was curious about What Is It? and this was very interesting and informative. :D

  • great video, great interview

  • I feel somewhat ashamed to say that I don't feel I could fully appreciate this movie unless I was under some kind of influence...but yeah, what a guy. I need to get my hands on those books.

  • That's ok...I kind of thought the same thing. Crispin's mind is naturally on some kind of high--a plane un-like many others. He's so interesting and sharp and unusual...

  • I know, and I'm really sick of people always trying to say that he's on drugs. I mean, yes, maybe. Maybe he is. Maybe he won't admit it. He does that, sometimes. But I'm fairly confident that he's really just that creative, smart, and brave. I say brave, because a lot of people could do what he does, but they don't have the balls to actually go through with it, let alone show it to other people. It's admirable.

  • people immediately think somebody is high when they do something unusual , as if the imagination of men is incapable of anything outrageous. Dali claims to have deprived himself of sleep to stimulate his imagination.Da Vinci likely was not on drugs...anything wrong with his body of work? Frank Zappa- huge body of work, some of it mainstream some not. No drugs there people.

  • I'd love to read some of that one day.

    SYKE.

  • how about YOU CANT WRITE SHIT so you love to tease others who CAN WRITE!...and I wouldnt let you read anything of mine even if u begged me

  • I think you need to work on your spelling and grammar before taking up the pen.

  • I think you need to work on your computer Etiquette before trying to make people feel small.

  • Judging by the Comments on your page you seem to be a real asshole. And what, because you can't see people it's ok to insult them > goes to shpw what kind of person you are.

  • HAHAHA look at Mr high and mighty "youtube is populated by total fucking idiots" and you are and exception are you ? your the only one who is not an idiot ? You have to be the most egotistical person on youtube if that's the case. And the idea of commenting (once again) does not mean you can give people abuse because the means are there.

  • ok, that clears everything up.

  • haha funny i out u bak 2 -3 lol

  • WAit wait...did you just say Frank Zappa didn't do drugs?

  • Mr. Zappa did not do drugs and often fired his band members if he found out that they were. Mr. Glover and the late Mr. Zappa were very much in the same realm of public discourse; trying to expand the questions that could be asked about cultural assumptions.

  • yeah he was always against drug use, he admitted to being a sexaholic however!

  • Now we can have a good time.

  • it is a waste of 9 years.

  • this movie was amazing. and he was very friendly and cordial afterward. i can't wait for the sequels!!

  • Crispin is GOD!

  • I can't wait to see this in los angeles next month. I love you Crispin!

  • Seeing this performance was one of the greatest things I've experienced, very "Society And The Spectacle". Crispin is Guy Debord.

  • Damn, I want to see his movie.

  • T R U T H

  • my mind has cracked

  • This dude makes me feel ...
