Haeyoon was my best friend. thank you for trying to help her. i made a tribute video for her so people could see how beautiful her life was.

@Truthrants Yea-I'm not arguing with you. The FD worked with those red-white-and-blue metal beam supports for, what 15-20 minutes? An armchair QB might also ask why they didn't have those bladders under the tree and inflated ASAP. Once the tree started lifting, then shore it with wood.
Looked like lots of concern for their own safety, but no sense of urgency to get her out. 'Course maybe she'd passed-on.
@alphasgv Interesting - it is leaning (but a few years old - tree's much bigger now).

@alphasgv Wow, you're totally correct! I also see another one about five trees up the road that looks like it has a substantial lean to it as well.
I'm going to go down there and get some photos of all of those trees. I really hope that they are planning on cutting most of those down.

I arrived right after it happened (bf the police or fire) and she did respond.
We tried to help, but the tree was huge.
It took a looong time to get the tree off her. After ~1/2 hr, the side nearer the roots was dropped back onto the car after being lifted 4-6 inches. Not sure the Fire guys knew quite what to do.
Whether any of that matters, I can't say. The tree was laying across her head and chest so even if the initial injuries weren't enough, she may have suffocated.
So sad.

@mgleason3 As I stated in the video, there is a criminal investigation under way to get to the bottom of that issue.
Personally, I was blown away that it took over an hour to get the crane in there. One man at the scene told me that he overheard some of the suits that were standing around arguing about which city should handle the jurisdiction since this area is directly on the border between Newport Beach and Costa Mesa.
I will be very angry to learn that this woman could have been saved.
