Really it strikes me as such a shame - unlike the sprawling US, it seems that in a country as small as the UK the faults in the educational system could be more easily remedied. What prevents this?? I'm honestly interested in knowing.
So is this sort of school like the non-private inner-city schools in NYC and other big US cities, with burned-out teachers, lack of supplies and funding, free lunch programs, etc.? If similar, they're more like big day-care centers than places of higher learning. I don't know why but I had a higher opinion of non-private UK schools..and this was the 70's. How much worse are they now?
What was the big fuss about the one girl not wearing a school uniform? Aside from Carol and a few others the rest of them didn't look like they were wearing uniforms. Most of 'em seemed dressed in that hideous low-budget 70's rag-tag fashion popular at least in the UK and US. Ugly!! And I was a teen in the 70's. Stick with classic dress - it never goes out of style
Thank you so much for posting this. Been after this for YEARS. We watched it in English in school when I was 13, and I loved it. I got to play Carol. I'm 27 now and I'm seeing it again for the first time in about 14 years! Love Youtube.
When teachers were allowed to be teachers, they can't tell kids off these days or even give them a cuddle if they want one for fear of the repercussions. Willy Russells stuff is always brilliant though !
Havn't seen this for over thirty years and it was still brilliant, and you AcesHigh, are truly and Ace for putting it on here. Thoroughly enjoyed it , Thanks.
Arghh ace man a priceless film : ) We actually read the play in my English class and we all put on our finest accents, in this case I was Briggs, he was an angry Indian indeed :D Cheers for the upload mate it'll help me with my essay tomorrow ;D
I hate the ending of this cause i thought Mr Briggs was a changed man and it turns out that he doesn't want anyone to know about the day he was nice and had fun with the kids he thought he would hate! So sad when he ruins the film!
I remember the school took us to see an amateur production of this with all the kids singing "Our day out, our day out!" Quite enjoyed that actually! Willy Russell is an excellent writer - Blood Brothers is his finest work though. Hey anyone recognise the teacher who is now diane in emmerdale?!
lmao! whats up with Linda humming a song between the conversation xD she's like "what are you going to do?" *sings* "what is?" *sings* "tch, oh yeah" *sings*
thank god your ending is better. This one sucked, it really didn't capture the reaction between briggs and carol the way it was supposed to in the script, that part was important.
what an awesome film! glad i stumbled on this. i dont think the scouse accent is too hard to pick up on, but im a geordie.

Thanks for another chance to see this. I worked on a musical version at the theatre in Stafford in the 80s. It is a little classic.
