  • Always dislikes for Timeless classics......why?????

  • @MrRedskinsfan247 There are only three dislikes, which were most likely by accident, trust me, I've disliked a few classics by mistake myself. I don't think any sane human being could dislike this song. Matter of fact, even insane people like this song. Long live Marvin, brotha. :-)

  • u aint here we r!!!

  • They had the balls 2 put an Obama ad on this vid... #FAIL

  • dear elvispresley718. if you listen with your ears instead of your mouth you would know marvin is singing about people like pres. obama.and learn how to spell before you try to put others down.

  • @ronsilkysmooth read atlas shrugged then get back to me

  • WOW how cool!

  • Marvin Gaye..Wish u were still here!!!!!!!! We need more music like this...

  • Amazing what happens when brothers become self aware and awaken from a dead state..RIP Brother Marvin Gaye

  • Man that's a tight rhythm section he's got there… love that bass/drum groove…

  • tunes like this are written from a pain i haven't seen, yet the pain i have seen, calls me to know and enjoy this tune. heaven will be so great that your suffering will seem light. u r going 2 heaven

  • Marvin is speaking from the afterlife... This song was released in 1971. 41 years later it still has topics coming from current events.. troubled economy, war, civil unrest..crime, police brutality. Was he trying to send us a message? This song stands for a message for mankind.

  • very deep dude love him

  • THIS SONG JUST REMINDED ME THAT THIS WORLD IS FINISHED.....I LOVE YOU MARVIN..XOXO :-(

  • I was once asked "If you could meet with someone, living or dead, who would you pick?" What a wonderful, reflective question. Today, my answer is Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson and Marvin Gaye.

  • This type of music will make you stop, listen and look!

  • this aint livin

  • RIP Marvin you sir were a gift from the gods.

  • God knows where we are headed

  • THIS IS A GOOD SONG FOR OLD THIME THINK YOU MARVIN RIP

  • 3 dislikes . three people who are missing out on a great thing in this world. Make Me Wanna Holler!

  • Should I say... "WAY BETTER THAN ME;)"

  • There are cats part of the 99% Livin BETTER THAN ME! Right idea... WRONG way 2 handle it;)

  • not appropriate man , wonderful tune. wonderful artist*! obama is a president but still contributes in his work with commendatory purpose

  • if marvin mad music like obama does his job we would not be listening today

  • @elvispresley718 ... and first prize for totally irrelevant, non-music-related, shittily spelled and piss-poorly punctuated dumbfuck politicizing goes to ELVISPRESLEY718!!!!

Where do you get the nerve to abuse Elvis's name, you brainless dogfart?

  • @newaccountdebzbd just about ever black person thinks that elvis was a racist stole from blues musicians exclusively and was a piece of trash do they study him in the public shool system coltrane miles yes elvis not their musical equal

  • Greatest and most important album ever made.

  • I luv this song! I listen to it on my iPod all the time!

  • AIN'T IT SOMETHING THAT A SONG LIKE THIS HAS THE TRUE NATURE OF WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW TODAY. MARVIN WAY AHEAD OF HIS TIME, WE MISS U AND MISS THE MESSAGE OF YOU MUSIC MORE, THANK YOU.

  • the good die young

  • pnojazz-apparently you are of the class of the few who discerns reality from deception. You remark was as we used to say"right on". If we listen to the artists of the 60's-70's the majority of them were bringing messages of pending danger, and warning those "who have an ear to hear truth". Thank you for your accurate depiction of what is occurring in our world now, and not being negative it is destined to get a lot worse, just as Marvin Gaye sang prophetically, peop;le look at the signs. WAKEUP

  • @truth1disciple I say "right on" brother to that!! Thanks for ur words! :)

  • this is the best album of All Time, it is and will always be TIMELESS.....Love ?Now And Loved it then

  • Thankyou doing hard time for introducing me to the great music of Marvin Gaye.

  • This is not a place for bickering, this is a spot to appreciate and discuss Marvin, take that shit elsewhere!

  • @1911Ryguy

I know!..I can't stand when negative people kill a good mood!

  • i was cruising to this the other night

  • Nothing anti-american here, just Marvin speaking to the truth, good & bad. that's as American as you can get. this is timeless and reaffirming, a time when unity was the theme, not diversity. I miss Marvin. I miss Curtis. I miss Lennon and Elvis. I miss the feeling that we could solve anything with a little help from friends. I miss the innocence but most of all I miss the civil discourse and discussion as opposed to the infants (young and old) on here talking loud and saying nothing.

  • Who disliked this song? God.

  • I dont evenb know what to say after hearing this song man.

  • OH YES MARVIN

If he were alive today, I promise wouldn't NOBODY have nothin' on him! He was bad! & even though he was WAYYY before my time... i grew up to this. Got a dad that looks & sounds like him & a mom thats just like Chaka Khan lol my 19 years been through it all musically!

  • Its deep, and so accurate.

  • I llloooovvveeeee this

  • The great man was a singing genius, he will never be replicated! Voice of an angel!

  • Marvin Gaye was way, way before his time!!

  • @LLBS2010 The word for his music would be "Timeless". My grand kids will hear this I'll make sure.

  • @gobee53 maybe if you want those poor grandbabies to be gay I'm gonna pray for you and those poor little grandbabies!

    ~Marc

  • This man was way ahead of his time. This song is even more relevant today than ever. Capitalism is communism in disguise.

  • @soluran

he was a prophet. in his own country. you know what happens to prophets in their own country. .....PEACE

  • @soluran move to cuba you fucking moron

  • @soluran why is it every liberal thinks like karl marx when it comes to money? you have no excuse to have such antiquated views in this day and age money is not a finite resource

  • the greatest album ever!...how many albums that were made 40years ago that are as relevent as this one? the subjects it touches on are still issues today,in another century!.....THINK ABOUT IT!

  • Right on about the critic on the US but that does not say anything about Marvin Gaye's music or all of the other very talented musicians that the country also has. The use of the word God in a positive sense already inspires responses and answers to prayers. In the strictly biblical sense of the word prophecy is the ability to foresee the future and not the ability to make great music. Divinipotens, powerful in Gods ways is the latin word for it.

  • after all these years.....it STILL make me wanna holla the way they do my life............

  • This man is very gifted,,, if only the youth would listen to this music.......

  • hell these politicians make a nigga want to holla for real no good greedy bastards but they time is a end

  • love this song

  • @ThePjlion44 and he doesn't care about you-a review is all it takes.

Vote Ron Paul - someone who says what he's going to do- and actually does it.

  • This song should be played everyday and minute in the streets of new york by the people that are making statements at the wallstreet pigs and the greed they never think twice of taking Yes, I am part of the 99%. Its time for us to stand tall and strong to stop this madness.RIP Mr.Gaye, you are deeply missed.

  • @ThePjlion44 yup, the official theme song for occupying wall street.

  • @ThePjlion44 those protesters are rioting in vein wallstreet gas got all the aces and frankly i support them. wallstreet has never done anything wrong

  • @Cdog291 well they havent done anything illegal (well a few ppl do but thats not issue). but yes they have done things that are immoral and wrong. But anyone saying they wouldnt be greedy working on walstreet is just lieing to themselves, i mean thats the name of the game

  • @ThePjlion44 Greed is the root of allllll evil!

I bought this CaSSette when I was 14...I wonder what he would say abt the world today....

  • @ThePjlion44 LOL...You do know that Marvin hated the Taxman with a white, hot passion don't you?? In the great man's words "Money, we make it, Fore we see it you take it, Oh, make you wanna holler, The way they do my life.......Bad breaks, set backs, Natural fact is I can't pay my taxes, Oh, make me wanna holler, And throw up both my hands" I don't think Marvin was a big fan of the government, 99 percenter!

  • @ThePjlion44 i might commit suiicide.

  • @KoldJewz hang in there, u r beautiful and we need u

  • The 1% disliked this song.

  • THAT ONE PERSON WHO DOESN'T LIKE THIS SONG PROBABLY NEEDS TO HALLA, ERR HOLLER!! R I P Marvin Pentz Gaye, Jr

  • real music !

  • 1 dislike???

  • From Washington DC

  • This song is perfect. Its such a timeless piece of music. I played this last night and my 3 year old son was groving to it!

  • @b7r7u7c7e

    cute!..lol!

  • Simply put this was and is the king of coooooooooooooooooooooooooooooolllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

  • A perfect song... for these times...

  • I hear c-rappers and I have to come back to Marvin and Curtis and Stevie and James Brown to listen to music with a message.

  • I'm 17, I'm beyond my years though, and there may be people on here 35-45 listening to this, but this is real music because of the instruments.

  • 40+ years later the beat goes on. Makes me wanna holler!

  • @61summertime Tell me .... 1972 I bought this LP...still listening to it today ... it doesn't age ...trouble is.. I do !

  • @Scorrpy lolso truelol

  • this music is truly the soundtrack of my life. R.I.P Marvin, you are sorely and truly missed.

  • thank u 2 th sexy prince 4 his genius - i miss his beauty & music - he is gone frm earth but he's in my heart & soul 4ever - r.i.p. marvin

  • Timeless classic!

  • After all these years I'm still angry with his father for taking this man from us. What was and what could have been. We were robbed.

  • @Biscayne54 Amen!

  • D E T R O I T

  • He was ahead of his time!

  • Wow! This is a good song.

  • Comment removed

  • listen to the words..apply them to today's problems, although a Black Man is in the White House.." and their blaming him for everything since the Kennedy assassination"..some things really haven't change ...or have they?..what do u think ?

  • @maurice78ful fuck you they blamed bush for everything and he's been out of office for almost four years

  • @elvispresley718 Hear you Brother ! Fact it is !!

  • @maurice78ful I think you're right.

  • ...one of the coolest ever!

  • My class is ready "Finding Fish" by Antwone Fisher, and we talked about this artist the other day, what a coincidence that it appeared in my homepage! :D

  • no music today makes me feel the way this old skool stuff does

  • Wow, now i know i listen to too much hip hop music. Sampled by Scarface "A Minute To Pray and A Second To Die". TYVM

  • One of the most magnificent pieces of art ever produced!!!Thank you Marvin.

  • GTA 4

  • Incredible.

  • Come to the Musiquarium in leeds for a bit of this next wed x

  • Marvin was a prophet. Where's my proof? Listen to the lyrics, for they're as accurate today as they were 40 years ago when this was released. I rest my case. What a sad state of affairs...

  • Yeah..

  • @pnojazz Agreed, i am making an official lobby to have him recognized as such in my religion. Dudeism.

  • Monstrous Talent ... File Under: Important

  • Thank you Marvin Gaye for this wonderful song along with the many others you have left us with. Also, I want to thank all of the "brothers" I was in the Marine Corps with in 1972, Camp Pendleton, CA who introduced me to Marvin Gaye and the other great soul music. The garbage they are passing off today doesn't even bear comparing with a song like this. To all of my fellow Marines, past and present, SEMPER FI. Corporal Mac. M. USMC 1972-1978

  • Eddie "Bongo" Brown on bongos.

  • ¡ Uuufff . . .se acuerdan ?

  • This song takes it's whole sens right now in nowadays. While the rich get richer and the poor poorer. While a man kills 80 people in Norway. While Sarah Paline might be elected and turn Usa to dust with wars . While people don't protect the earth. While people get more and more selfish and harsh. "Everybody thinks we're wrong. Who are they to judge us." That's right Marvin.

Who are they to judge us ?

  • @LouisHaynes2 stupid bitch at least palin is pro-american or maybe u don't like her because she's white obama is a bloody moron

  • @elvispresley718 Obama will win re-election-period.

  • this song, this album speaks through time, everything said happened in our history, everything said is happening in our present, everything said will continue to happen, why?. human beings of the earth cannot collective do good and be good to each other. human beings accept what's being told to them by a few and through out history those few have done only ill to the majority yet still we repeat history time and time again. why?

  • Especially I love this song's intro. The whole album is a masterpiece.

  • Bob Babbitt on bass - amazing.

  • Damn guns and drugs... Always taking the good ones. I know that's not always the case, but Marvin Gaye was a one-time talent to ever hit this planet, and we'll never see that again. When I get much older, if I'm deaf, pray I be able to read his lyrics. If I'm blind, pray I'm able to still hear his music.

Also, I guess Marvin's dad had time to login and hit the dislike button from jail.

  • These issues are still prevalent in American society. The question is why? How come we can't learn from our mistakes? My bills are still piled up sky high ,and my brother was sent to Iraq and died. And I'm paying installments on my taxes and student loans.

  • @thepoopie2

Greed! US notions of “freedom and democracy” the “American dream” and “justice for all” are myths.

Fact:US has 25% of the worlds prison population but only 4% of its people.

Fact:Less social mobility than any OECD country, with the exception of the UK which has far better social welfare and equity

Fact:At war for most of my 50+ years

    Fact:Worlds biggest arms seller

    Fact:51% of global military spending.

A few use 'freedom' to get richer at any cost, as with the recent WFC and Iraq war

  • @suicidetower from wiki eyy lol

  • @suicidetower In this country the truth will set you free, or sometimes get you arrested by men in black...

  • @suicidetower fuck u bitch go live in another country if u don't like it here this music is great because of the production and the singing not because of the anti-american lyrics yo nigger got RICH in the usa go somewhere else with that shit

  • @elvispresley718 Do you kiss your boyfriend with that mouth?

  • @53rexford you wish your were my boyfriend asshole!

  • @elvispresley718 Yes, I totally agree. Differing opinion and exploiting the ability to express it is anti-American. The country that brought democracy to the modern age would be a lot better had it exiled all that spoke out against current policies. Democracy is best with a one party system.

  • @thepoopie2 clearly, people like you who take out loans without the means to pay them back are not part of the problem. right? you are the problem, but instead of realizing your failures, you wallow in your own self pity all the while thinking you are privied to some sort of entitlement. YOU need to learn from YOUR mistakes you stupid faggot. here, you want to solve some issues with american society? kill yourself because you're a worthless human being and contribute nothing to society.

  • Bob Babbitt played bass on this song

  • @StringTherapy Thanks. Babbitt has an impressive hit list not only at Motown but I believe with TSOP. I'm not discounting Bob Babbitt, I always thought the overdub was Jamerson.

  • @sameeh109 me too but he was influenced by jamerson so your assumption is merited

  • Turn it up!!!

  • James Jamerson's bass work was integral to Marvin Gaye's vision for this album to the extent that Marvin sought him out even though Jamerson was being marginalized at the time at Motown. It's not an issue of who's playing bass between Jamerson and Babbitt but WHO was selected as PRIMARY on the KEY songs. I totally agree with Marvin.

  • I wonder if they knew they were making timeless music back then. The issues in this song reflect the same issues we have in 2011.

  • Its almost like he was a prophet.

  • Had to pause the first 5 minutes of the movie Knockaround Guys to find this song. Sadly it's my first time hearing it but wont be my last.

  • @mimisha24 the whole album is a master piece. everybody from my generation had this when it came out. back in the day, and we still love it, plus still play it. umm it's great.

  • Jamerson....Babbitt: With all due respect to both of these geniuses, forget about which one is playing the bass guitar and focus on Marvin's message.

  • Comment removed

  • Godly !

  • I believe it's both Bob Babbitt AND James Jamerson playing bass on this song. There are clearly two basses interplaying and if I'm not mistaken , the liner credits both players on this particular song. Jamerson was the primary on four songs in this album.

  • @sameeh109 Jamerson played on the first 5 songs. Bob played on the last 4.

  • this song sounds like 2011. and beyond.

  • Nothing has changed since Marvin wrote this masterpiece. The government are still ripping us off and lying to us. The environment is getting worse and the rainforests are still disappearing, food and electric are gettng impossible to pay for, and the cops are still trigger-happy bastards. God knows where we're heading.....Marvin had it right.

  • Just beautiful...Riding the subway to this makes you really reflect upon life and how much we are living backwards when the only way is forward...It's a shame that this song makes more sense now since it was first released. Rest In Peace Marvin Gaye.

  • That's James Jamerson on bass. The story goes that Marvin wouldn't record a new solo album unless Jamerson was available. Two legends.

  • @danilomarrone Wrong it's Bob Babbitt on the bass. He was one of the Funk Brothers too. He didn't play on a lot of songs. But you can hear that it's not really James Jamerson style. Jamerson's style is much more complicated.

  • @LouisHaynes2 Thanks for the correction. Bob Babbitt is another monster on the bass.

  • R.I.P. Marvin

  • It's amazing to me that everything he speaks of in this song can be perfectly applied to what's going on today.

  • Support Martin Gaye Rights!

  • @HeMpMaGe wtf

  • amazing.

  • Incredibly incredible. A 'masterpiece' unto itself.

All of the 'dreadlocked', 'tattooed', 'platinum grilled', 'bottlepopping', 'bootydropping'

'autotuned' emptiness of some of todays music could NEVER measure up 2 the realness of this song.

This is life,...and the reality thereof.

    Rest In Peace Mr. Gaye

    (we miss U man)

  • @shadowmixx wow i so agree with you on that comment. Marvin had his faults and so do we all but he sang about the problems of that time and unfortunately we are living those same problems. Was he ahead of his time.

  • @shadowmixx I could not have said it better. you took me to another level with that statement cause its the truth. what if he had not died what would his music be based upon today.

  • @shadowmixx well said, one of the most intelligent comments i've read

  • @shadowmixx > Agree 100% With That Comment,, So True..

  • @shadowmixx You speak for millions. Right on, man.

  • Comment removed

  • @shadowmixx Well said....although some Hip Hop is good....it seams the negative stuff gets all the attention.

  • @mylokaf Yep. Sad, but true

  • Wow. Still powerfully good, having lost none of it's original impact. And the lyrics could have been written today too..

    Thank you, Marvin...

  • This is a Fly Song!!!

  • same problems,different century.

  • @sootyandsweep33 He made this song for this and the last century, because this trouble dont stop here its on going. what can we change ? we caint direct our steps alone there is a higher being. JEHOVAH.

  • its up to GOD,not man to shut down the wicked. lord im waiting. evil did not create itself.

  • RIP- Marvin..

  • Part of the best album of all time.....

  • That one dislike makes me wanna hollor "WTF?"

The man, the voice, the music, the lyrics! a complete masterpiece.

This ain't one of them songs where you only like a part of it.

  • Gret song Marvin nothing much has changed though unfourtanely and it wont my optimism has been well and truly hammered over the years but brothers and sisters all we can do is keep on keeping on love@light.

  • who in the HELL would dislike this video??
