You guys tried playing it direct through a tube amp instead of a dedicated power amp? If so what's the verdict?

@TheForgotten27 direct means going straight to the board, aka no poweramp. We did at one point use tube poweramps and although it did sound great, going direct is unbeatable!

@Periphery Oops my bad, I'm not too clued up on how to use a lot of new music technology, for the last 10 years i thought all you need is a tube amp and a few pedals, but the Axe FX is mind blowing. But if i were to get one I'd only want to use it as an FX processor and not a tube modeller, so its still a safe bet if i play it with/through whatever new head i get as well? Thanks

@TheForgotten27 You probably don't want to buy an AxeFX if all you're gonna be doing is running it as an effects processor in your tube amp rig. Unless you have money to burn that is. A huge percentage of the AxeFX's value is in it's near-identical amp modelling. There are superb, industry-standard multi effects racks that cost far, far less than the AxeFX. Not using the amp models kinda defeats the purpose of buying one in my opinion.

I'm just getting into it - but i was thinking using my FX loop to run the output of the Axe FX straight through the power section of my tube amp. Obviously i'd use some of the amp/cab moddeling for some stuff, but for my general heavy rhythm sound i was just going to use the sounds of my amp and bypass the moddeling. Sounds good to me, but im still kinda new to all this haha

@TheForgotten27 I'd stick to your pedals. I've spent years changing my rig, integrating digital effects racks & whatnot. I came to the conclusion that rack effects aren't actually that great. Especially if you own a great tube amplifier. I even bought a G-Major 2 before realising that a) I hated it & b) there were more effects than i actually needed. I sold it within 2 weeks. With stomps, you can buy them when you need them.

@TheForgotten27 What amp do you have? I can switch my amp channels via MIDI, which is really simple with midi-controlled effects racks. Some amps have a relay mechanism (Peavey 6505). So basically, you can hook up a MIDI foot controller to your effects rack running through your amp's effects loop, that not only changes patches, but changes your amp channels simultaneously aswell. No tap dancing.

Besides, If you buy an AFX, you may aswell sell your amp & buy a poweramp.
