John, Weyerhaeuser Here is A small operation compared to what that one must be, Thats a lot of lumber, Awesome shot of the bridge as well Thanks for posting this as A video response to my lonely Caboose
@pwalpar The one in longview at one time was the largest pulp paper mill in the world. In its hay day the facility here in town had its own switching yard a log dock that could handle two log ships, a huge sort yard for cold decking logs, the had a saw mill, a paper mill, a second papeer mill for fine paper, a salt dock, a plainer facility, a chip dock for chip barges, a chlorine facility, a second mill for production of news paper and book paper, NORPAC. And many other facilities.
@wsuraifan Some of these facilities remain in operations, while others have been shut down or like the railroad, it has been sold off. The wood in this package came from a lumber train that came from their Green Mountain Saw Mill which has been shut down. There were also many other facilities, but they escape my mind. This place was huge.
This train is returning from Weyerhaeuser's Green Mountain Mill in Toutle, Washington. Like many of the saw mills in the Pacific Northwest, the Green Mountain was shut down, hence this type of train no longer runs on this section of Weyco's line.
Yeah, it's too bad they shut down Green Mountain!! Although a bunch of them were tranfered to Longview's Weyerhaeuser were I work...I should say worked cause Im one of the 19 that got laid off here in Longview. Hopefully I go back soon!! Great video man, thanks!!
Ya, I remeber that as well, I was working at the 7th avenue park that day and I could see the a plume of thick black smoke, I could not see the flames though.
haha, notice how the section you see, the pillars are made of concrete, the whole thing used to be wooded, until a frie caught a main section ablaze, causeing a huge black plume of smoke because of the oil. from where i lived, i had no idea what was going on, but i believe it was on july 2nd, quite a few years back, maybe in 2002-4
I take a take a good amount of train photos and video from the Kelso and Kalama areas along the BNSF mainline. If you subscribe to my channel, you will be able to watch mainline traffic BNSF, Union Pacific, Amtrak, in addition to the local Weyerhaeuser Traffic which runs through Longview.

Ah, the old Columbia & Cowlitz. I remember when that was a huge wood trestle until it burned down and had to be replaced with steel piers.

Cool video. Were those SW's or MP's? Some of those hoppers looked old enough to be old SP sugar beet cars!

They are of mixture of SW 1200's and SW 1500's

What's that funny looking car at the end of the train?
Why, it's a caboose! Don't see them much anymore.
I'm surprised this railroad is still operating. I remember hearing years ago that Weyerhaeuser was losing money and wanted to shut it down.

I think that it got shut down this spring (2008).

The green mountain mill in toutle was shut down, but the company still runs trash trains on the line.
