  • Cool video

  • do you keep that stick that balances it on the rocket?? or do you remove it upon launh please reply! ty awesome video btw

  • @243bolt you keep it on for ballance.

  • the reason for coreing a rocket motor or drilling a core is to produce a faster pressure faster burn rate, the biger the core the more power it releases at once, its called a core burnner, by the way i also use reloadable rockets ive founf that sugar rocket motors are much more powerful, how i know this is you cant use a 9 1/6 inch hole in a sigar rocket and a 24-40 mm reloudable rocket has this and a sugart rocket needs for a 1/2 inch pvc a 5/32 nozzel,3/4 inch pvc is 5 mm drill size,

  • @ray72271 I'm sure that you can use whatever if withstands the temperature and keeps the mixture in.

  • Can u use just clay instead of kitty litter and clay?

  • good job ^^ and nice roket

  • You can't get pure KNO3, it's controlled.

  • Holy sht! I cant make this :(

The only kind of Kn03 i can get is Salpeter. Its allot of other sht in it and it burns really slow, i get non powerful smoke grenades :(

    any suggestions?

  • @WebShareMusic Go to Lowes and look for "Grant's" brand stump remover. It's about as pure as you can get. "Spectracide" brand works too, but its slightly less pure than Grant's. I'm sure you already know, but 60:40 is the correct ratio for this. Well actually 65:35 is better, but not entirely necessary.

  • one question, what did u use in the first vid, the powder u first hammered on

    (in the brown/grey cup?

  • OK so I will use gun powder for fuel, because it has more energy,as it does not contain an unuseful amount of water kept in sugar (C12H22O11,meaning that there are 11 H20 and 12 C).This amount of water does not bring any energy,so using poor C is better than sugar.

But may I ask you that when I use only KNO3 and C ,no Sulfur in the mix(perfect ratio of course),Is this mix less powerful than the original gunpowder with S?

I'm afraid that the smoke from SO2 with make my neighbor complain.

  • @tranluhoang nah, ive tried gunpowder without sulfur, and it is pretty damn terrible, but i DO NOT reccomend that you make this mixture in a coffee grinder because of course, gunpowder is ALOT more sensitive than this mixture, and this mixture may not be that brilliant, but it is simple, just an oxidiser and sugar, both widely available, so is very easy to make and if you go wrong with a rocket, youve got a pretty cool smoke grenade lol

  • Comment removed

  • @tranluhoang The water expands into steam: more propulsion

  • excuse me,

    I've got 2 question here:

How about the ratio of KNO3/sugar? I tried to make 2:1 but it burn very slowly, taking 30second to finish, but it's 3-4 s on youtube.so the compound is very weak fo lauch the rocket.

Why do you have to drill the rocket many times? I think drilling the bottom bentonite is enough.

  • @tranluhoang the ratio is 3:2, thats the perfect burn rate, if both chemicals are mixed as powder form, (talc powder consistency) and the reason for the drilling is so that it burns better, this mix is not very fast burning and the drilling ensures that the mixture burns from middle to outer shell, therefore a faster burn, and better takeoff, the only time you should drill only the bentonite plug is if you are using gunpowder, this has a much faster burn rate. this is a TAME mixture.

  • u make it look so easy

  • @tobstor its very easy i make a rocket in 3-5 min

  • Thnx man!!!

  • GOOOOOD!:P

  • good work

  • how do u make a launch pad for a bigger roket/......or can i just lanch from standing on its fins

  • you could but itd probably fall and launch in a direction thats not the sky

  • hi, Im trying to make one but I ve already tryed 2 times(none flew). Seems to be lack of power to take off...u use something mor than just kno3 and sugar? I heard some guys using iron oxide, does it helps? and the muzzle need to handle the heat all the time or just in the beginning?

  • mine are ending up to be giant smoke bombs....what am i doing wrong here

  • Wrong KnO3 to sugar ratio MadMikeSkata

  • what type of sugar is icing mix sucrose cuz i have tried everything from using the powder with out melting it down tried different sugar i have pure kno3 i have tried with fe2o3 (iron Oxide) i have tried grinding it down even using magnesium at almost every part of the proccess and i am still having no success HELP!!!!!

  • Icing sugar is just finely ground sucrose (usually)

  • Sorry when i posted that I was a noob but i now now the best ratios and works with pretty much of any type of sugar

  • how can you find KNO3

  • ebay just dont buy from plans and kits unlimited not fine and there are like pieces of dirt and shit in there

  • kno3 is in stump remover and it the white little pices in fertilizer

  • if you strap it on to the stick, wont the rocket just take the stick up with it?

do you strap only lightly or put the stick in the ground really hard?

  • If you live in the UK and want to get some Potassium Nitrate (KNO3), Visco Fuse, or any other chemicals... checkout HobbyChemicals(.)co(.)uk

  • if u cant get visco use sparklers

  • not to contradict this guys methods because this is an easy way of doing it, melting the mixture into a brown past that looks like peanut butter and then shoving it in the tube with a rod straight down the middle for the hole, works a shit lot better. it chemically and physically binds them so you get an increased burn rate.

  • Won't it explode if you try melting it?

  • Nah, if you heat it up too much though then it will burst into flames. Melt it at a lower heat than its flash point, about 200-300 degrees. i think its flash point is about 380. AND you have to constantly stir it, if one part touches the surface for too long it turns to black shit.

  • Thanks, just one more question.

If you melt it instead of compressing it (like this guy) what would be the difference it terms of your construction, like with the bentonite?

  • none really. just melt it, pour it in, put ur nozzle on, drill it.

  • Thanks alot!

  • May I just add, to save the drilling, when you have poured it in put a small biro pen in it untill it cools, when it has cooled down and is still a bit tacky pull out the biro :) .

  • And also if you would like pretty colors when melting and mixing, add some colored powdered dye of you choice, blue is quite nice, I make my own smoke bombs for paintballing, slightly different mixture though :).

  • Melting it actually gives less thrust. Try dissolving the stuff in water and then boil it down(dont let is brown) and then grind it into a powder and this works best.

  • noo if you grind it into a power you get air pockets, and people wonder why their rockets don't go straight or randomly explode before they even take off. If you melt it down, and add some iron oxide or similar it will more than equate for the slight loss of trust from melting it (so u say) although ive not noticed less thrust, ive noticed more thrust if anything.

  • i cant get mine to lift off it just sits their blowing all my mixture iut the tube

  • any suggestons

  • put ur kno3/sugar in a pan with water, bring it to boil (be carefull) when u cant stir anymore take it out and crumble up when cool, break it into a powder. this makes a better proppellent. also try a smaller hole in your tube.

  • Great job!

  • and how you attached it to a rocket.

  • use just a tape or something ;) it will work fine.

  • i am wondering what your ignition source was.

  • it was that tissue paper soaked in KNO3

  • If you are in the USA, the faa amatuer rocket regulations state that you cannot have any metal as the body of a rocket.

  • Coolll...

  • the good old sparkler makes a great reliable fuse. i don't know why people don't use them more. they work for most devices.

  • mixing in some powdered sulfur or red iron oxide will increase the burn rate and get it off the ground faster.

  • nicely done! but what is the shit you stamp into the top and bottom.. please reply, I wanna make my one (A) 5/5

  • Cat litter, (bentonite is the techy name) just use that lumpy stuff ur cat pisses on lol

  • Dude XD that's it? nice! i just doesn't understand it, because i'm dutch XD but cat litter.. I'm gonna make my one! thnx dude!

  • it is bentonite clay. but don't wet it! pack it in dry and it will work well. also you can find it on eBay for around $8.00 + delivery for 500g.

  • Yooo I did much bigger rocket and it exploded in the air, I used an aluminum thin can for this,

I had experimented with this fuel mixture

  • nice men .........pretty dum well/////hugeeee

  • did u just light the fuse with lighter? maddd vid

  • yeah, u just light the tip, and it fizzes like touch paper :)

  • Hi Brother of the Rocket Arts,

UK Visco do have some supplies, but you have to catch them at the right time, as a lot of us Pyrotechnics use them, another idea for the watchers out there is to make fuze, Inoxia are a good supply house here in the UK, but you have to prove your over 18-21,

Have fun making fuze and keep your fingers clear.

  • nice vid i am inspired but i have nowhere to set them off

  • NIce woork:D

  • Tha was a cool rocket! You could also try it in a bigger scale for more powerful rocket. I came to a problem when i decided to make one: Where can i get some of Kno3?

  • depends where you live.

  • Hi easy video to watch, but you can get a supply of fze in the UK, but you need to use a credit/debit card, the company is called UK VISCO, and they have a good supply of fuze,

Or you can try HFM Pyrotechnics, and use Bickfords safety Fuze.

Have fun and keep your fingers clear,

  • UK Visco is OUT of everything.. i think.

and HFM, expensive!!!!!! meh, i still got 120ft visco left

  • very nice thanx

  • thanks man

  • KNO3 is quite versatile init, lots of fun things to do with that stuff, you should try mixing a bit of red powdered dye into that mix to give ur rocket more visibilty in daytime.

  • could you make the rocket twice the size with twice the KNO3 and Sugar? Would it work or would it be a waste of time/a MAJOR FAILURE?

  • do you mean twice the volume? or twice as tall/wide? because if you make it to tall it looses pressure towards the end of the burn and falls b4 all the fuel is gone, not a bad thing bu t a bit of a waste.

otherwise, sure! twice the stuff, twice as cool

b careful though, a mate of mine got 3rd degree burns from an exploding test rocket (he didnt pack the powder enough, got a pressure bubbble)

  • Google HFM pyro for a UK supplier of Visco & Wassag fuse wire

  • cool KNO3 rocket!

  • that was really cool make some more

  • pukka rocket! i'm probably going to do this for my A2 physics coursework, will be perfect! thanks for your help!

  • just attach 4 fins and it will fly eaven better

  • wonderfull...but visualize my kno3+sugar's bomb! it's very very powerfull and easy to make it.

  • I've been doing some burn tests with the kno3 i have and its leaving a lot of residue, does that mean its not very pure?

  • nice rocket thank you would you like to tell mi about suger powder i mean its tea suger ?

  • You have made a rocket motor here and yet you turned it into a bottle rocket. You should have taken the time to make a tube with a nose cone with 3 fins and a centre tube to mount the rocket motor with the centre ring and thrust ring inside the mount. Buy a quest astra rocket to see how it is done properly, though your motors are cool :)

  • Maybe a steel brush to clean the drill bit? Can you use a wick out of a normal legal firework as the fuse?

  • Does it work with only sugar??

  • nah, u can mix in charcoal and sulfur to make gunpowder, but i wouldnt reccomend it, just use sugar

  • i think ICoconutHead means does it work with just sugar and not KNO3

  • Pottasium Nitrate*

  • frumusel .(romana). Nice (english). LoL :D

  • Would be awesome if you could post a video with some kind of a firework on top of it, so it would go off like a real new years rocket (; .

  • that's great stuff. do you know how to make and engine like that with an ejection charge for a parachute for sport rocketry? Send me the details.

  • can u use sulphar?

  • some people do yeah

  • if you put a fuse tight in there you could make a pipe bomb

  • yeah, u can, ive recently made a pvc pipe bomb, dno wether to put it up though lol

  • i would be careful with that lol

  • sick, im gonna make it too

  • u can use sparklers as fuse u know

    good vid!!!

  • yeah i know, theyre more expensive than that fuse im using, it literally costs like 2pence per sheet and that will make like 40 fuses lol

  • is the fuel for it 20g kn03 and 11g sugar? can it be sugar you have in corn flakes or something? ihave no good powdered...

  • good job, you obviously put a bit of thought into it, i'll be making one as soon as i get a chance

    Aaron

  • dude all you need is a better camera so that you sound clearer and waht you do is shown clearly.

    that would be awesome

  • great job mat!!!!

  • your video is wondeful .. good job :D

  • bp can substitue the kno3/sugar

  • hey...quick question. you use the same mixture to make a smoke bomb.

you make the smoke bomb by heating the mixture slowly and you make the rocket by just leaving the mixture in a powder form. am i correct?

    thanks. and great video!

  • i think that this is basically a smoke bomb. The case has only one exit to it so when the mix expands it is forced out that way producing the thrust

  • I believe for the smoke bomb mix all you have to do is heat the mixture up to about 161 degrees Celsius and the sugar will decompose into caramel. if you heat this mixture under that temperature with corn syrup you can create what's called rocket candy.

  • yep, ur right, but thats quite dangerous, because some people have had it go up in their face =/

  • hi could you tell me wer i could get sum kno3 iv been lookin 4 ages now jus carnt find any thank you

  • ebay-saltpeter is kno3

  • . . .whoa!

  • thats cool

  • The way he's carrying on hes gonna have no fingers, i mean, the way he was drilling in to that salt petre and sugar , he obviously didn't think too much about a friction ignition. Still an awsome rocket to make though.

  • Read: Friction.. -.-

  • what do you mean read: Friction.. -.- , explain

  • It will NOT ignite by friction, it's chemistry.

  • Ok chill your beanz, and what makes you soo sure that a spinning drill cant get fast enough to generate enough heat to ignite it.

  • yeah i thought that was a bit risky. i guess the drill wasn't that powerful. I recon that a mains drill will be powerful to ignite it

  • cafe that is the thing that put him on the shores of the tube is sand? when the rocket stick to stick firmly sticks? that the video is to start when the rocket leaves only the rocket and not the stick and that the stick is stuck to the rocket pd: I speak Spanish lol

  • LMAO

I'm laughing with you, not at you.

  • if you had listened to the last video he explained that it was kitty litter, basically use a non flammable material and pack that in its place

  • Not bad, master! But i have the same Question:

what do you put in the rocket bottom and upper?

  • would i be right in saying that the longer the tbe the longer the flight?

  • yes...

  • yes.

  • what are you put in the rocket bottom and upper? what is the name of black powder? how can I prepare the black powder? please reply

  • uhm he didnt so i will, it not black powder it sal petre or kno3 mixed with sugar,k and im no sure of the parts so please reply back.

  • your stick is for drag or air friction, not for balancing it. The air tugs on the stick during flight much like fins. William congreve invented the concept for military rockets. Also, keep on drilling your combustion cavity like that and you will end up in hospital! Please be less aggressive with the drilling. choose a slow speed and use less force.

  • just see were the stick balances with oout cutting any off

and the distance from the rocket to your finger is wat u cut off

    get it

  • yer. nice.

  • don't you have to melt the sugar? pls reply

  • wtf? no

  • thanks for your answer....

    keep posting .....

please tell me if you upload another usefull videos.....!!!! thank you!!!

  • if you add a bit rust about 1 gram over a 100 gram batch you make your propellent a lot more powerful!

  • cool video!!ever seen the movie "October Sky",that movie was filmed in Morgan county Tennessee where I'm from.keep up the good work TITTYTWISTER

  • dude! this stuff is great i saw this video and started messing around with kno3. Its so fun lol. i learned form this video and tried to make the same thing exsecpt i use pvc pipe ive tried three times and it hasnt lifted off yet im doing somthing wrong lol. im fixing to try it again. ill record it. thanks for all the info on how to make the rockets!!! awsome video.

  • how big off a pay load do you think these can take you know if you wanted it to end with a bang

    with a explosive second stage

  • Hi im just wondering when you launch it off- how does that work? Do you stick the stick in the ground or in a tube/pipe?

  • i push a stick in to the ground, and drop the rocket in to it, just make sure that it can move freely out of the tube.

  • i live in the uk

  • that explains why your such a faggot.

  • wtf?!?!

  • wer do u get potasium nitrate or kno3 from?????

  • were ur parents home when u made these or even know ?

  • they buy me the stuff to do it lol

  • ahh but be careful potasium nitrate is explosive ! have fun

  • hi whats the mix for the kno3 to suger for the rockets thanks

  • didnt he say 4 parts sugar (teaspoons) 6 parts kno3

  • what is your ratio? im using a 7:3 and it isn't working that great (not even moving i guess im not mixing thouroughly enough or my nozzle is to big.) my 4 inch rocket engine burned for 45 seconds straight so i tried adding sulfur as a catalyst 6:3:1 and still not results. what should i do?

  • im using 6:4 ratio, try drying the mix on a radiator, not hammering it in so hard, or making the hole smaller through the middle.

  • ah yeah i tried a 5:3 mixture and it worked alittle better, it actuall took off. i think i make the nozzle smaller from 5/32 to 1/8 in

  • good rockets,here are mine engine,its 17 cm long,2,5 cm nozzleplug,3 cm topplug,8 mm nozzle,it goes for almost 10 seconds

  • it stays on the stick for guide and you make the fuse out of kno3 water and you get paper towel and you put it in the mixture and dry.

    i think

    1 tablespoon boiling water

    1 teaspoon kno3

i would also color dye it

  • hey i would like to know how you made the little fuse thing and also when you launch it is it still stuck to the stick or does it break off thnx

  • the fuse has a tutorial on my channel, and it stays strapped to the stick because that acts as a guide to send it up straight.

  • thats pretty sick but cant u get busted for buyin potassium nitrate, i thought it became a controlled substance after the london bombings?

  • :S dno, i didnt fink so m8 as far as i know, u can buy it... and make these rockets, but ur not allowed to make over 100 grams of mix at a time.

  • in the america you can by 50 lbs of it off of ebay for $65 and its not regulated. i thinkammonium nitrates, chlorates and perchlorates are though

  • could i use a normal fuse too???

    very godd video

  • yeah normal fuse is the best, its just i couldnt get none at the time.

  • very, very good

  • thanks :D

  • thanks for the vid but i have one question?

i live in the UK, London and i dont know were to get KNO3 from? can i get from like Homebase B&Q and that kind of shops? please reply

  • i dont think so, try some english pyro websites like hobbychem, and even ebay! ive looked on ebay today, and they dont seem to have any... so im stuck too :(

  • hey thanks for the tut good job

I made one of these but didn't mean to was making a smoke bomb and got the ratio wrong lol so a toilet roll tube was whizzing down the streets of London :|lol was really funny tho

  • HAHA!! lol nice one :P

  • i am sorry i dont understand how you launched it. did you stucked it to the ground? i am new to fireworks

  • i put a hollow tube in the ground, and then put it in the tube making sure that it is free to move, and then as it ignites, it will push up and fly. easy :D

  • i dont have a scale and i make the rocket and it doesnt take flight : (

can you tell me how many tea spoons of kno3 and shugar i need to put in it?
