  • God this movie was boring...

  • "In my opinion, excentricities can go too far...." lol

  • Did she just sell her dad on Mr Knightly, the same way a kid would sell her dad on a keeping a dog? That is SO weird.

  • I have loved this "Emma"!!

  • I loved how Mr. Kinightley looked at Emma when she told her father that she loved Mr. Knightley...! I loved that part!

  • Yeah, the chickens are much safer now....

  • @MsHeart39 I SO agree. It's awful!

  • It sure has an unexpected twist!!

  • 6:18 -- This segment is just chilling. G*d help poor Jane Fairfax when she's not young and pretty anymore.

  • don't get me wrong, i really enjoyed this - Kate was fantastically conceited at the start and lovely at the end, and mark made a wonderful Mr Knightley...but that has to be the most awkward kiss I've seen carried out in a period drama :$ x

  • @lauraheatherr I thought so too!!! They made it look so fake and then they wanted it to be perfect that they position their faces for full lip contact! lol

  • @heartbreaker23jojo I think that kiss should be ackward. AFterall, they were neighbors and grew up together. It's a bit of change to move from friendship to lover.

  • @arkenstone65 Yeah, it wouldn't suit society today, but come on, IT'S JANE AUSTEN!! Anything can happen. Back then, they married cousins! LOL I say that "Emma" is a step up from that (yes, i know they didn't really marry close cousins, but still, EWW). Im sure there are many people who married their neighbors or people the've grew up with, I mean, someone has to gotta start somewhere.

  • Mark is better. The perfect hero much like Darcy

  • The remark about holding Emma when she was three weeks old (he was 18 when she was born) is in the book, but not in that scene. It's in the scene where she's holding her namesake, baby Emma, and trying to mend their first serious quarrel. The remark isn't intended to creep you out, but to remind Emma and the reader that he has been selflessly loving and caring for her all her life.

  • No, that's the perfect Mr. Knightly - self-satisfied, superior, and horribly annoying.

  • I'm not sure but is this the first time they dance without gloves?

  • well, the screenwriting in this is just not that great. they took my favorite scene (where they declare their love, etc) and made it ridiculously formal and awkward.

  • I must admit to liking this one much better than the Paltrow version, even if Mr Knightly is way too grumpy.

  • they included a lot of lines in this adaptation that were sorely missed in the 2009 version...but I still prefer Romola and Johnny Lee Miller to Kate Beckinsale and Strong. Their love is more believable.

  • @liznipsness So do I, there was something creepy about him saying that he'd held her in his arms when she was 3 weeks old. I don't think that was in the book.

  • if only dancing these days was as graceful...

  • well well now that ending made up for the whole movie, l love how drawn out it was, period dramas sometimes end to quick for me

  • Why is it that when men are always warmer than women, do the men in period drama's have shirts, high collars, coats and boots on while the women are in little muslin dresses!

  • "Oh Lord, Harriet..." lolz <3

  • Kate Beckinsale is a very good actress, but for some reason her Emma is not as likeable as she should be. I think Samantha Morton is badly cast as Harriet as she can't do stupid or weak very well. But otherwise I thought this was excellent

  • hahahaha does anyone else see the "Oh yeah!" expression on Mr. Knightley's face when she says we are alone at night?

  • I love the Oh lord, Harriet!

  • LOL... what a simpleton father...afraid of everything...especialy change... funny man. "yes we see each other everyday, but not at night" LOL...

  • The more contemporary these adaptations get, the more they fail to capture the spirit of Jane Austen. She is all about subtlety and witty dialogue. This version portrays Emma as very conceited and class conscious. The Paltrow Emma had more emotional tension invested in the relationship between Emma and Miss Smith. More comedy and more everything. IMO.

  • They could have used the time they wasted on this loooong ending to put more time into plot/character development in the movie.

  • OMG... the actor who plays Knightley's brother is also in 'Lost in Austen' and he plays a VERY creepy Mr Collins..... Lovely in this... YUK in the other but he is a fabulous actor and plays 'Creepy Collins' so well... :0)x

  • @wenglishsal ... Hee hee I have googled 'Lost in Austen' and the actor who plays 'Creepy Colins' is Guy Henry.. Such wonderful sarcastic wit as John Knightley and really 'uber' creepy as Mr Collins... What a fabulous actor he is... Well supporting the main leads.. Oh happy me indeed.. :0)x

  • emma looks like she's angry with frank!!!! is she????

  • Frank is such a stalker. Poor Jane! I love Emma's face in those moments, like "You are sooo whipped".

Great adaptation :) I've seen this before but I've only now started to appreciated the different take on Emma this adaptation brings. Thanks for uploading.

  • Such a great story :D I'm glad she wound up with Mr. Knightly... lol, she really is clueless when it comes to the world of love, but aren't we all? Well done. :D

  • this version has terrible acting. and wtf is he pretending to be a king? way to belittle like everyone in the room, yet he always scolds emma if she's mean to others.

  • @LoVe0YoUr9LiFe ... If you are unhappy with this version... have a look at 2006 version with Romola Garai and Johnny Lee Miller... Very good, very good indeed, in fact although i said that this is my favourite version I must confess that the 2006 is now my NUMBER 1 and Kate Beckinsale/Mark Strong are a close 2ND... :0)x

  • @wenglishsal 2009 version. :^)

  • @gertrudewhite ... Whoops pressed the wrong number there didn't I... DOH!!! I love the 2009 version best.. AND then Kate and Mark a very close 2nd... Mind you I will watch any EMMA... Lov 'em all... :0)x

  • Well, this version is very....yellow...;-) (and not in the Coldplay way)

I just wasted 120 minutes on this mashed-up, soulless rendition which lacks heart and humour as well. I repeat myself: badly done.

  • @HermioneNo1 LOL no the Coldplay way is very, very good and this is indeed very very bad; I only liked the last 20 minutes because Mark Strong finally decided to show some emotion of love. He is the only reason I didn't completely hate this adaption.

  • The actress playing Mrs Elton, was one of Bingley's sister's (in the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice 1998, the one with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle)... Mrs Louisa Hurst and Caroline Bingley are two perfectly written bitches... Well written Janye Austen and well acted ladies.. The lady who played Caroline Bingley ( Anna Chancellor) also played 'Duckface' in 4 weddings and a funeral too, with Hugh Grant...We are spoiled for excellent actors :0)x

  • The BBC always do a good job, when adapting novels... If you like this have a look at Larkrise to Candleford... It is exquisite and beautifully shot, with such fabulous characters... Well done Beeb and the casting of Kate Beckinsale and Mark Strong are my favorite couple cast in EMMA ... :0)x

  • This is awesome, they adapted it beautifully and kept everything important in! I liked it very much!

  • okay, I take it back, when they are talking to mr. woodhouse, his hair looks MUCH better.

  • i LOVE this version, but mark strong is so odd looking!

  • A nice adaption :) They didn't leave anything crucial out ^^ nice!
