i also tried going to a acupuncturist and it seemed to have made my symtomps worse tahn before. my mom thought it could help but the only thing that helps is the medication. and sometimes even the pyshciatriists have a hard time deciding what medications i should take.
My sister is tryin to be a chiroprator and they do alot of "natural healing" you can say. they deal with autism and things like. or actually i think som eof the doctors do after they get out of school they somehow do. sorry it confusing but my sister wants me to see one of her chiropractor instructions because she thinks that they can help me get off my medication for schizophrenia. I KNow my sister is doing this out of love but shoudl i really see one?
@dabul2003 I wouldn't go off your meds, because you will probably get worse. Things like acupuncture and chiropractic stuff can be used in addition to regular meds, but they are no substitute for medications. The best treatments available for schizophrenia are the meds plus therapy. Without medications I would probably have to live in a hospital. :(
I am bieing serios when I say this. You know how your cog and precog skills sharpen when u r om the meds? It is because (i think) schophenia is past life confusion. You past lives are interfereing with your present life and you are not sure what one is real. Remember you sais you thought you were protected by royality? That was one of your past lives. Think about it. It makes perfect sense.
schizophrenia cannot be cured. So this stuff about medication is a scam by the pharmaceutical industry to just cell stuff and kill off poor schizophrenics. but sure I agree that it might be good if you want to alleviate the symptoms. But no, people can be better off without medication if they can handle their schizophrenia. I believe that some kings in history have been schizophrenics.
just read your comment and its funny you say that because my doc has advised me to do regular exercise because apparently when we do a good work out our brain releases endorphines which are natural chemicals that help us to feel goog
Thanks again. I would really like to know your opinion, as someone who is familiar with schizophrenia, on R.D. Laing's(the "antipsychiatriast"'s) writings on schizophrenia.
thank you for trying to explain your and others worlds.
i would like to see other movies you made and mayne understand more how to help people with this difficulty (i wrok with mental patients, only a student for now).
loved your movies and you speak so beautifully, and also have so peacfull voice.
PLEASE STOP manic/depression and schizophrenia are NEVER diagnosed in the same person You are hurting you're audience again they are two entirely differerent didorders
And the way society deals with shizophrenics, makes them go crazier. The key is to just talk to them about what is bothering them, not giving them drugs.
That is not true. As she rightly says, people in a psychotic episode sometimes act manically. To say that bipolor disorder and schizophrenia are never diagnosed in the same person is not correct. They don't always occur in the same person but they can.
2 months ago my brother started having anxiety attacks & depression he has been taking Ativan for the anxiety after ending up in the ER, he is yet to see a psychiatrist. He becomes very obsessive about things, i.e. watch a movie over and over like 10 times per week. He has the idea of being watched by the police (aka "them") cameras, microphones etc on walls & lamps, so far we dont know what to say to this, any ideas on what we can say in response to this without affecting him or his feelings?!?
Also any idea on what us, the family, can do to cope with this stuation our loved member is suffering? God Bless You and for all the courage he blessed you with.
The family could help by NOT BELIEVING IN GOD! how can you call someone "delusional" and say they need help because they "think irrationally" and "hear voices that aren't there" then tell them to believe in a virgin birth and a big man in the sky that judges them and sends them to hell if they don't do certain things? that's enough to drive any child crazy. teach them about science and quit believing in god and at least then you won't be technically schizophrenic!!
I would say: get your brother to a psychiatrist fast. Also, try to be compassionate and gentle. If he thinks he is being watched, he is probably paranoid and that is very frightening. A little extra kindness goes a long ways. I know it is probably hard to be around him at this point, but know that your support means more now than ever.
weird...my therapist thinks i have schizophrenia and i do the same thing your brother does...watch movies over and over or play a song over and over and over again...some days i just get stuck on the same thing. how is your brother now?

Hi there, I am a mother of a teenage boy that was just diagnosed with Schizophrenia. He has struggled all of his 17 yrs and was just recently diagnosed iwth schizophrenia. Please go see a Dr, don't suffer unnecessarily. You deserve to be happy and they can help you feel better and live a happier life !
Please keep me posted, I don't know you..but I still care.
Don't forget schizoaffective with the mood disorder being depression. Everyone always talks about bi-polar but no one talks about schizophrenia with the mood disorder being depression
Thanks for the video. My son was diagnosed schizophrenic when he was 24. He is now 33 and suffers alot because he spends so much time alone in his thoughts. You describe schizophrenia very well. It takes somebody who's been there, a doctor, or someone who has a loved one with the disorder to truely understand it. I wish he could get the right meds to be okay with himself the way you seem to be. Hope you are still doing well. God Bless.
Individual metabolism and weight has a lot to do with drug dose, people who break down drugs faster and people with higher weights need more medicine for the same therapeutic effect. So, even if someone is on a higher dose of medicine than another person, it is not necessarily true that person requires more medicine (i.e. a worse disease) or has a greater tolerance. Oh my goodness. Who gives children this age anti-psychotics? What is wrong the the American healthcare system? This girl thinks she's schizophrenic? That is terrible!
well... your profile says you're 35 but I guess that's just a way to not have "mature content" filters on... Anyway, relating to what you consider to be symptoms, I say u should just talk to someone about it. Like your mum, or the school psychologist (if your school does have that).
But you might've just seen too many movies on the subject or heard a lot about it and now auto-suggestion is working.
I was on resperidol back in december, and I stopped taking it, it seems to me that I start to get delusional when I go on the computer....I think I need to avoid it!
I think you are a success story showing the world that schizophrenia is an illness (removing all stigma)like any other illness and that its symptoms can be controlled:) God bless you and keep on keepin on!
If anyone wants a good scientific read of fact regarding neuroleptics and the rise in the disabled mentally ill then google EHPPPsychdrugepidemic(whitaker).pdf
Thankyou for posting this video. My girlfriend is schizophrenic and also suffers from Dissociative Identity Disorder, and I am trying to learn as much as I possibly can. It is hard to find something about the disorders that isn't in complete scientific garble, so its nice of you too explain it simply, I really appreciate it.
I have something where if I were to touch something with my nails a magic line would be drawn across my room and i have to stand on the left side. I thought it might be OCD but upon further research it may be delusions.I am quite shy and withdrawn and often feel quite dissorganized and people sometimes make coments on how I act strange and inapropeately.I do not want to tell freinds or family about this cause I'm not even sure if there is something to worry about or If I'm just over reacting.
Paranoid delusions aren't proof of schizophrenia though, are they? I mean, anxiety disorder and stuff like that. Just curious if it can manifest itself through other means, especially if a person hasn't the other symptoms.
I am not quite sure what your question is. There are specific criteria that have to be met in order for it to be considered schizophrenia. If you'd like the specific criteria, you can look up the dsm-iv-tr online. But bizarre, paranoid delusions are pretty classic of schizophrenia. It is quite different than anxiety.
What I'm trying to say is, are paranoid delusions associated with other mental illnesses? I mean, if someone is having paranoid delusions -- yet not truly being invested in them -- that's not to say they are necessarily schizophrenic, right?
Yes, there are other disorders that might entail having paranoid delusions...it depends on the total picture...or rather, the total picture of the person.
Thanks for posting this. My cousin has schizophrenia. It manifested 2 years ago. They havent found the right meds yet. He had to withdraw from college. He's mostly paranoid schizophrenic. He now seems withdrawn. He doesn't contact us and isn't as talkative as he used to be and doesn't want to talk to us. I thought that I should let him be but after seeing your video, maybe I should try harder to reach him? It's difficult to know when to get involved and when to back off.
I know...dealing with people when they are sick with this is very difficult. I say: don't give up on the person. Let them know you care about them and love them. Even if they might not respond how you'd like, it DOES make a difference to the person to know that people care about and love them. Thank you for your lovely comment. :) kristin
Basically I refused to take medications, so they had to give me an injection (the Haldol) and then when I became more stable, they were able to give me less Haldol and even things out with the newer med, Geodon. That way I still have the protection of the Haldol but I don't have to take as much, because I supplement with Geodon. :)
mental illness is caused by problems with the brain, which is a physical organ. you cant argue that autism isnt real, or cerebral palsy, or tourette's syndrome, or dyslexia. All of the other mental disorders/illnesses are caused by a dysfunctioning brain, which is real.
I accept that psychiatry can be too quick to diagnose at times and there are alot of unknowns. But to suggest there is no such thing as mentall illness is ridiculous. There are people who have very distressing conditions and deserve the best treatments available so they can enjoy life. How do you suggest helping someone who won't leave the house because they are terrified people are trying to have them killed? Just tell them they are a little vulnerable and it will all be fine?
According to Pfeiffer in 90% of the cases schizophrenia is caused by to high histamine, to low histamine or pyroluria. All three imbalances can be cured with simple methods that don't contain drug(ab)use. He came to that conclusion by studying over 20.000 patients for over 40 years.
Maybe you should search more on those terms. And don't only believe the dopaminecrap they tell you everywhere!
Seriously, you are completely wrong. It has nothing to do with histamine. What? Are you an expert or something? Why are you telling me this? Why do you need to disbelieve what schizophrenia is? Do you have it? Are you a scientologist? What?
Thank you very much for this. I have a relative who is schizophrenic, although very sadly she has refused almost all treatment. She is quite stable nowadays, but for several years she was tremendously incoherent and paranoid. Very frightening stuff for herself and her children. This is a very serious illness and I wish there was more information out there for the public to absorb.
This is very informational and I want to thank you for doing this. My brother has schizophrenia sorry if i spelled it wrong and he is psychotic and delusional but only around certain people it seems like and also is there any way to get a person to have to be commited because he only takes his medicine then other wise he wont and will drink excessively. I have alot of questions but I was wondering if you could help me thanks.
Hey! I'm glad you like the video. Feel free to email me with any questions. My address is on my page. My name is Kristin and I will try my best to help you out. :)
i was also angry during my episodes, i had 2, the more i watch your videos the more i see of what we have in common. im taking risperdal consta injection every 2 weeks for it. going to watch the 3rd one now :)
It's really brave of you to speak about this so openly. It's also enjoyable (if that's the right word) to watch--you are good company in the Scottish night!
I told my mom that I would like her to get back on medications cause she is not the same without them. Is there a way that I could get her to understand that she needs help? THANK YOU
It is VERY difficult to get people who are not well to understand that they function better ON medication. That is one of the main obstacles these days. My best advice is to be there for her as much as is healthy for you and let her know how you feel and that you just want what is best for her. She may eventually admit she needs help. Maybe find a group for her to join with people with similar problems if she is willing to join. Or go with her to the doctor.
She or you can always write to me too if that would help. I don't know. And you should know that she may not appreciate your help right now, but she will probably realize someday that you are just trying to help. It is extremely important for people with schizophrenia to have people who are on their side, even if the schizophrenic person has not been able to admit to needing help.
A lot of times with the paranoia and stuff it can seem like the entire world is against you and it often becomes very frightening, so having people on your side is REALLY important, even if it just means that the family member can't do anything to help. It is at least something if the family member can showing comfort and caring.
mom has schizophrenia. years ago.She was diagnosed with it later in life. SHe doesnt believe anything is wrong with her.Her doctor took her off of her medicine and now she is having a relapse. It was been hard for me cause I am very close to my mom. When a person has schizophrenia and when they get better do they usually remember how they were acting?
Yes, normally people who are psychotic do remember what they were doing as if it was a normal day. So if the person tends to remember a lot normally, then they will remember a lot and if they tend to forget a lot, they will probably not remember much.
i would like to ask you what do you think about antipsychotics causeing movement disorders like dystonia. i developed dystonia a few days after an injection of depixol, an anti psychotic. thankfully it didnt last long but it was pretty scary and painful.
I tried to post a response to this but it didn't take. The movement disorders are a definite problem, that is one reason why you need a good doctor to look out for problems so they can be dealt with immediately. I'd write more but no more room here.
i`m a bipolar rapid cycler for over i don`t know how long :) in Germany i do not only get antipsychotics and moodstabilizers/ Antidepressiva but ALSO a medic.
which was originally designed as an antiepileptica
These videos are very good and useful for anyone starting to hear voices or having delusions, personally i can definitely relate to most of it. Keep up with the good videos.
This was really useful for my work at college, thank you! :)

well... your profile says you're 35 but I guess that's just a way to not have "mature content" filters on... Anyway, relating to what you consider to be symptoms, I say u should just talk to someone about it. Like your mum, or the school psychologist (if your school does have that).
But you might've just seen too many movies on the subject or heard a lot about it and now auto-suggestion is working.

I think you are a success story showing the world that schizophrenia is an illness (removing all stigma)like any other illness and that its symptoms can be controlled:) God bless you and keep on keepin on!

These people who you're relating to sound a lot like a character in the novel of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

I have something where if I were to touch something with my nails a magic line would be drawn across my room and i have to stand on the left side. I thought it might be OCD but upon further research it may be delusions.I am quite shy and withdrawn and often feel quite dissorganized and people sometimes make coments on how I act strange and inapropeately.I do not want to tell freinds or family about this cause I'm not even sure if there is something to worry about or If I'm just over reacting.
almanacofsleep 4 years ago
Paranoid delusions aren't proof of schizophrenia though, are they? I mean, anxiety disorder and stuff like that. Just curious if it can manifest itself through other means, especially if a person hasn't the other symptoms.
RossProspekt 4 years ago
I am not quite sure what your question is. There are specific criteria that have to be met in order for it to be considered schizophrenia. If you'd like the specific criteria, you can look up the dsm-iv-tr online. But bizarre, paranoid delusions are pretty classic of schizophrenia. It is quite different than anxiety.
ichbinkeinberliner 4 years ago
What I'm trying to say is, are paranoid delusions associated with other mental illnesses? I mean, if someone is having paranoid delusions -- yet not truly being invested in them -- that's not to say they are necessarily schizophrenic, right?
RossProspekt 4 years ago
Yes, there are other disorders that might entail having paranoid delusions...it depends on the total picture...or rather, the total picture of the person.
ichbinkeinberliner 4 years ago
I'm not a doctor but my experience of delusions are different.
Lots of people are paranoid and imagine
people are against them. A paranoid delusion
to me, is different. I was convinced that
the laws of physics and reality had changed.
While this was happening I didn't know I
was in delusion. I was TOTALLY invested in it's reality. I suppose there are degrees
of delusion. If you go through short periods
of MILD paranoia & then realize it was silly
that is not scz.

:) kristin

Hi! why do you take 2 anti-psychotics? Geodon and Haldol...
yoshii88 4 years ago
Basically I refused to take medications, so they had to give me an injection (the Haldol) and then when I became more stable, they were able to give me less Haldol and even things out with the newer med, Geodon. That way I still have the protection of the Haldol but I don't have to take as much, because I supplement with Geodon. :)

mental illness is caused by problems with the brain, which is a physical organ. you cant argue that autism isnt real, or cerebral palsy, or tourette's syndrome, or dyslexia. All of the other mental disorders/illnesses are caused by a dysfunctioning brain, which is real.

I have deleted my schizophrenia videos and added a new one in which I describe my schizophrenia. I hope you like it.
It is called 'what is schizophrenia '
elholandes 4 years ago
I accept that psychiatry can be too quick to diagnose at times and there are alot of unknowns. But to suggest there is no such thing as mentall illness is ridiculous. There are people who have very distressing conditions and deserve the best treatments available so they can enjoy life. How do you suggest helping someone who won't leave the house because they are terrified people are trying to have them killed? Just tell them they are a little vulnerable and it will all be fine?

Hey I just emailed you.The posting was too long for the youtubewindow.

If you have questions than write on my profile!
Asiate 4 years ago
Seriously, you are completely wrong. It has nothing to do with histamine. What? Are you an expert or something? Why are you telling me this? Why do you need to disbelieve what schizophrenia is? Do you have it? Are you a scientologist? What?
ichbinkeinberliner 4 years ago
Orthomolecular medicine, including Pfeiffer,
seem to exaggerate their results. There has
been no independently documented proof that
it works. Having said that, depending on the
skill of the practitioner, a person can get
good results by seeing one as a last
resort. Histamine is a result not a cause.
Pyroluria can be 1 cause. BTW I am not a
Scientologist, have scz, do not take meds,
have never seen a Ortho Dr.

It's Great that the meds work for u! I know my bro had to try a few diff combinations b4 he got the right one.
nayomee77 4 years ago
This is very informational and I want to thank you for doing this. My brother has schizophrenia sorry if i spelled it wrong and he is psychotic and delusional but only around certain people it seems like and also is there any way to get a person to have to be commited because he only takes his medicine then other wise he wont and will drink excessively. I have alot of questions but I was wondering if you could help me thanks.

I told my mom that I would like her to get back on medications cause she is not the same without them. Is there a way that I could get her to understand that she needs help? THANK YOU
sweetlittlemama2006 5 years ago
It is VERY difficult to get people who are not well to understand that they function better ON medication. That is one of the main obstacles these days. My best advice is to be there for her as much as is healthy for you and let her know how you feel and that you just want what is best for her. She may eventually admit she needs help. Maybe find a group for her to join with people with similar problems if she is willing to join. Or go with her to the doctor.
ichbinkeinberliner 5 years ago
She or you can always write to me too if that would help. I don't know. And you should know that she may not appreciate your help right now, but she will probably realize someday that you are just trying to help. It is extremely important for people with schizophrenia to have people who are on their side, even if the schizophrenic person has not been able to admit to needing help.
ichbinkeinberliner 5 years ago
A lot of times with the paranoia and stuff it can seem like the entire world is against you and it often becomes very frightening, so having people on your side is REALLY important, even if it just means that the family member can't do anything to help. It is at least something if the family member can showing comfort and caring.

mom has schizophrenia. years ago.She was diagnosed with it later in life. SHe doesnt believe anything is wrong with her.Her doctor took her off of her medicine and now she is having a relapse. It was been hard for me cause I am very close to my mom. When a person has schizophrenia and when they get better do they usually remember how they were acting?
sweetlittlemama2006 5 years ago
Yes, normally people who are psychotic do remember what they were doing as if it was a normal day. So if the person tends to remember a lot normally, then they will remember a lot and if they tend to forget a lot, they will probably not remember much.

hi kristin
i would like to ask you what do you think about antipsychotics causeing movement disorders like dystonia. i developed dystonia a few days after an injection of depixol, an anti psychotic. thankfully it didnt last long but it was pretty scary and painful.
paparacchina 5 years ago
I tried to post a response to this but it didn't take. The movement disorders are a definite problem, that is one reason why you need a good doctor to look out for problems so they can be dealt with immediately. I'd write more but no more room here.
