  • uhm... well, i think that's ok.. i agree..

  • They are just trying to maintain their secrets, whether you think that is a bad or a good thing. The reason they lie to cover up the real, strategic reason, is because there is a rule of secrecy that says, you cannot divulge something that has the effect of informing anyone of your methods. The methods of rolling out the censorship themselves, are classified. Isn't it a bit weak to attack the censorship itself, and not those who are systematically rolling it out? Know the motives of your enemy.

  • Australia democracy index just went way down

  • Since Conroy is talking about FAMILIES, what bloody FAMILIES sit around watching child porn? Conroy jumps from one argument to another and when he gets stonewalled he automatically yells "CHILD PORN" like he constantly thinks about it.

  • The AU govt subdues information about the western occupation of the middle east for weeks after it occurs when it's released mere hours after over there. The govt doesn't want Aussies to know what's happening OS to keep us clalm. This filter has nothing to do with child Porn and EVERYTHING to do with censoring images and articles of conflict OS... just like what happened in India, Egypt and Iran etc etc. All govts are on the same page to censor our information!

  • If the govt was serious about a filter they'd put it to the PEOPLE of AU and ask what they thought. AU doesn't own the internet. NO-one does. It's an electronic organism that evolves millions of times a day.

  • It's so easy to break the filter, it'll do it itself.

  • GET EM KERRY YOU THE MAN!

  • WELL IV SEEN THE BLACK LIST THERE GOING TOO USE AN 50% OF THE MATERIAL THERE BANNING IS NOT CHILDPORN THERE EVEN BANNING WIKIPEDIA AN PARTS OF YOUTUBE WHAT THE FUCK HAS WIKI AN YOU TUBE GOT TOO DO WITH CHILD PORN? THERE TRING TOO BAN FREEDOM OF SPEECH ITS A COMMUNIST FIREWALL

  • @jimmycar83

You do realise Australia doesn't have a freedom of speech act? We have something similar but its not the same. But yeah, total outrage. Deserves all caps.

  • @Aci6 Yeah I know we have no act an theres nothing in our constitution

  • >Implying this filter won't turn Australia into a communist country

    >Implying any average internet user even knows how to find child porn, let alone view it

  • if they want to filter the internet they might as well cut the fiber between countries

  • that childwise woman is just dumb.

  • lol@Kings Cross

  • What about how to vote! What would be the best option in finding out & obtaining monkey see monkey do approach for voting Conroy out and putting proper suits in place who oppose this! I have many people saying how do I vote, who should I vote for regarding this being stopped. Many just want a template approach, sort of like the ones they try to hand U outside the voting balled by different parties! If I can formulate one I can make a jpeg version so people can print & take with them when voting.

  • This filter will never work and will always block sites it shouldn't. Just have a look at the NSW schools DET filter. It's terrible, all it does is become an utter nuisance, even to the teachers when they give us websites to go on that won't even work.

  • We need the govt to make the internet more family friendly?? What a joke! How about parents DOING THEIR JOB AS PARENTS! Talk to and inform your children. This filter will NOT work, but it WILL track every single online movement any and all of make. The filter will be NATION WIDE. That means EVERYONE will get tracked and monitored, yes even adults, who should have the right to make adult choices. This isn't protection, it's monitoring and surveillance.

  • social commentator clive hamilton - what a joke who cares what this unqualified cunt thinks

  • Make your voice heard. Add your name to our petition and make sure everyone you know does the same:

    stopnetcensorship . com

  • Apparently all you need to do is add a question mark at the end of a URL and that will bypass the filter.

  • Lol at the bald dude saying the internet should be treated the same as film TV and literature. the nature of the internet doesn't allow that to happen, its simply not possible. anyone saying otherwise is either uninformed or a fucking idiot.

  • I disagree with Michael Malone's first statement - even if filtering was flawless and impossible to break I would not support it at all. The power to regulate is the power to control and governments throughout history have an appalling track record of oppression of their citizens. I trust Conroy, Rudd & even Abbott about as far as I can throw the great wall of China.

  • Fuckin pedophile pricks. Its cause of them they are considering this bullshit filtering. Ofcourse the epidemic of child pornography isn't even that great in proportions that conroy and his dickhead buddies seem to think. Its just a scheme used by conroy because his son may have been caught watching gay porn on his computer. fuck conroy!

  • Yay. I read in the australian today that the US oposes krudds cencorship plans :D. Lol i half expect conroy to accuse hillary clinton of liking child porn, it seems to be his only argument.

  • call up senator conroy the dirty little c*nt and hassle him to no end. This is the only way to stop this shill from taking away our free speech. How is this plan any different from what china does to their people? Hell it's probably worse. Call senator conroy and demand to talk with him. # 02 6277 7480

    Fuck the fascists!

  • Stopping child pornography is the smokescreen for government controlled censorship.

  • Fucking conroy, someone questions him and he suggests they like child porn.

  • @axty87

yea man i fucking hate that cunt

  • Clive Hamilton:

"The government dictates every other forum of print and expression in this country why can't it censor the largest source of information and discussion mankind has ever known using RC guidelines?"

Maybe we should ask why everything readable and veiwable in this country needs a Govt stamp of approval. They convicted a man of child porn charges based on cartoons, suddenly having a strange fetish is an offence to the state.

    My country is going backwards...

  • Wow, what a waste of money. People have worked their entire lives coming up the technology to make the internet faster so that businesses can thrive and jobs can be created. Slowing it down by introducing an internet filter is the dumbest idea i have ever heard. I'm voting Liberal this next election.

  • @abetterplayer

liberal? labor? i hate em all, but it seems no matter who i vote for im getting the same bunch of faggots either way.

    god damn i hate politicians

  • Maybe they'll fence our coast line, and launch long range ballistic missiles and build propaganda villages for people on the outside to look at. What do we get out of letting people have this much control?

  • Conroy and his mate Clive can both go and get fucked. Instead of spending 30 bazillion dollars on filtering the internet he could use that money to fund 30,000 new cops for a special internet task force.

Senator Conroy please go kill yourself

  • As stated in the video. What the FUCK! happened to just good old fashioned parenting? The problem lies with parents treating the internet as this surrogate mother who will pretty much entertain the kids and never do them wrong.

  • @sumgui Its not just that, they also want to stop the people who access the websites of their own accord.

  • dannodany, mate, couldnt have said it better myself, im down here in aus too and ive got one thing to say, SHITS GOING DOWN!

  • bye bye labor

  • "Some, is better then none at all"

*You have found a magic lamp, you rub it*

First wish,I want a billion dollars

Second, I want the powers of Superman

Third wish,I want that dumb bitch to get run over by a truck

  • @anotheretardedfanboy Fucking OATH.

  • people will find a way to hack any censoring. australian gov has got to pull their finger out and stop being pathetic little wimps..the people in power are those 4 eyed fuck tards nobody liked. this is how they get back at you 20 years later.

  • This is all so retarded. By doing this your slowing all Australian users which our internet is slow enough and no matter how many sites you block theres just gonna be more. Fucking retarded country. This isn't gonna pass and Kevin Rudd can go get fucked.

  • "Slow the internet service to a crawl"

As if our internet compared to the rest of the world could get any ass backwards slower.

  • SO TRUE MATE

  • Kevin Rudd speaks Mandarin. he looks like an Asian who has had plastic surgery. now hes trying to control the internet like china. i think hes working for the Chinese government. just a thought

  • rud is a fuck head we need to vote his ass out...this is a descrace

fuck you controlling basteds.we put him in power we can remove him and the filters , filtering the net and cangers like these should be voted on buy every australian tax payer not the fucking senate ...

  • I speak of everyone when I say if you think censorship is the way to go, PACK YOUR BAGS GTFO OF OUR COUNTRY, MOVE IN WITH CHINA

  • Just think, 30 to 85% slower then our net already is. Seriously think about that.

  • They're blocking 4chan.

    Yet, it's not illegal.

  • minitru rectify "rudd" doubleplusgood youtube, "cla0016" unperson

  • dear god what have we done.......

    weve made a mini china

    *shoots himself in head*

  • lol, whats funny about the internet, as soon as you try to get rid of something, or cover it up, lots of replacements fall in its place

  • Internet content filtering could cost users about $6 a year and cause no network disruption, according to results from a trial of the technology by ISP Exetel.

The filters performed flawlessly during the six-day trial, which ran separate to the government's filter pilot and concluded today. It recorded no false positives from some 20,000 hits against a blacklist of alleged child porn Web sites, and had no measureable impact on any Exetel router.

  • Red Herring ? ahaha you would think a professor would recognise that the argument was infact a "slippery slope" argument.

I am about to leave my isp exetel as they have just finished a volentary test on the filter.

I'm not one to buy into conspiratorial thinking but it is really not hard to envision certain groups lobbying the government to block access to their chosen monster. These family groups and their "won't somebody think of the children" spiel really piss me off.

  • Just another poor excuse to control the masses, aswell as the fed police get $50million...

    Communism is ALIVE folks!

  • FFUUCCCKKK

All the 'experts' against it ARE NOT IN THE FIELD OF IT

HOW THE FUCK WOULD THEY KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEMS OF THE FILTER

    AAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGHHH

  • they wont and dont and never will ^_^

and people will always find a way, they cannot completely control the internet

  • True, but the thing is, they've started already.

  • this is the ultimate example of children being thought of as mindless shells who have absolutley no idea of what might be thought of as bad. people credit kids with intelligence or at least with some sort of sense, because this will stop every single possible freedom that som kids have; the freedom to look up things withot contsant blocks and filters. imagine researching about the ANZACS. i can think that most would fail becaus of "violent content"

    rudd go fuck your self

    can i still say that?

  • this is y women shouldn't be in power they fuck everything not sexist just telling how it is i hate people ( kids ) thay fuck everything for the good people who use the net to hack lol

  • This proposal is absurd, plus it is so easy to pass and will make australias abhorent internet even slower. This issue should be solved with old school policing. The countries that alrady have internet filtering aren't the most freedom loving countries

  • Problems: 1. Filter won't work 2. peer to peer networks aren't affected...irony anyone? 3. VPN's get will around filter 4. proxy servers will get around filter 5. Google translate will get around the filter (seriously!) 6. Vulnerabilities will be hacked constantly. 7. New sites appear every day 8. Their only other option would be keyword search...which would also block this very video 9. The 'black list' WILL be abused 10. My internet is already slow enough In other words, THIS WON'T WORK.....
  • The ISP EXETEL just ran test of the filter and the results were a negligable drop in speed and a very good sucess rate of stopping filtered objects. They have given the government valuble data in order for them to push for this.

  • Hmm. Well that is good news.

Of course my other points still stand. Whatever filter is introduced, people will just get around it, and P2P isn't affected, making the entire exercise rather pointless...unless they also block P2P, but then people would just download to American servers and then download them directly via tunneling(or FTP) services. I know that works on the heavily blocked school networks, so it will work anywhere. Filters can and will be nothing than be a slight irritation.

  • @NicendFF

i guess abbott will win in this instance

  • @NicendFF everything you said is tru the internet is slow the filter wont work and if the filter is installed the speed will be like dial up

  • I have no truck with the government's intentions (all very noble); I am however distressed by what they ARE doing.

Taking the system and choking it by the neck: clamping a few hundred providers allows complete control of information to the body below.

No-one will know what is blocked: its secret; a "black" list. Conroy says it will apply the current censorship rules: what of future rules? - how will we scrutinize them once access is proscribed?

  • Comment removed

  • fuckn rudd just because you speak chinese doesnt mean u should think like one, i dont want some body watching everything i do on the net

  • filters are just anoying because you have to get around them, they cant stop you

  • there was a fliter at my highschool on pretty much everything but we still got around it. people still could see non english porn sites and we were even able to see facebook for about 3 weeks. in saying this it shows that even such a strict internet filter in government schools still didnt work.

  • We are slowly turning into China.

  • The only thing this filter can do is stop accidental viewing of illegal content, intentional viewing will hardly be affected at all. So why waste millions of dollars trying to implement this?

  • Ive said it before and ill say it again. EAT A DICK CONROY, EAT A BIG FAT JUICY DICK.

  • my internet is slow enough as it is thank you very much!

  • To Clive Hamilton "Expemted from Social and Moral controls as bizzare and repugnant" YOU IGNORANT TWAT!!! NO government nor single person or panel should have the right to decide whats morally right and what should be controlled. It its the 21st century for shit sake not the middle ages!!! It about FUCKING TIME people started to take responsibility for their own morals that they arrive at independently not what some dipshit tells them is right!

  • In case you never registered, our whole legal system is based on morals. I am not saying I agree with what they will attempt to do (mainly because it will slow the internet down up to 87%), but they have the right to decide what is morally right.

  • No sorry i disagree, society itself decides whats right and wrong and no government nor single person should have the power to dictate terms. In doing so (ie censoring) It is a blunt assumption that people do not have the capacity to make decisions themselves etc. I find it an insult to my intelligence and an insult to people that this government works FOR. Rudd has in other areas proven that he is trying to hold a moral high ground over the population and that is UNACCEPTABLE! (breath in)

  • I agree with what you are saying, they shouldn't have the authority to decide our morals but unfortunately they do. If people had the right to make decisions themselves, rather then the Government, then what laws would we have? None, there would be murder, theft, extortion etc. The world would be chaos, and even though I don't support any aspects of the law, some people do and think the world would be a "better" place with the laws in place. *Breaths in and sighs*

  • lol.

    Fail much?

You honestly telling me that none of the laws we have in made place were made with the support of the public? You're telling me you would go around raping and thieving if the Government hadn't legislated against it?

  • I do what I like, whether the Government has an issue with that or not. And what I am saying is that the Government don't care what we think, unless we threat to rebel. The only thing we decide is who gets to be prime minister/president, assuming that the polls are not rigged.

  • The real horror in this is (and this is why the 1984 analogies are (FOR ONCE) being employed appropriately), we cannot know what moral standard we are agreeing to - that is to be decided for us. No option for consideration; no option for review.

    That's dangerous.

  • HEIL RUDD, Turning Australia into Nazi Germany.

  • Minitruth doubleplusgood

  • how the fuck do they figure ISP's have this responsibility?

  • no one is getting between me and my pr0n

  • NICE WORk... come to my channel

    let us be friends:)

  • "some is better than no at all"

What complete crap, when you weigh up all the costs with the benefits, some just doesn't cut it.

  • fuck off why do we have to get punished for what only a small portion of ppl are doing, spend the money of finding the fuckers who do the porn.

  • The technology just doesn't work. 60% of all internet traffic is P2P which cannot be blocked and lets not forget about annonomouse proxy's. There are figures that say a filter would slow down the net 80%. We already have shit internet in Australia. The filter has a 1% false positive rate. 1% ins't much until you think about the billions of websites out there. Finally the cost would make smaller ISP's uncompetitive and give a bigger market share to teltra. Youtube won't let me rave on anymore.

  • Now youre unemployed, all null n void

Walking around like youre pretty boy floyd

Turned stickup kid, look what you done did

Got send up for a eight year bid

Now your man is took and youre a may tag

Spend the next two years as an undercover fag

Being used and abused, and served like hell

Till one day you was find hung dead in a cell

It was plain to see that your life was lost

You was cold and your body swung back and

  • Are you guys getting this video in widescreen?

  • yes, must be a new function

  • for those that can be slow i despise any form of corporatism or dictatorship (unless you put hugo chavez in that category, in which i am totally for a benevolent albeit slightly crazy dictator), be it the US/EU/PRC/any other supporter of the illuminati, this is the land of the free (or so we thought), i don't want to see this fundamentalist christian crap shoved down my throat, i've had enough of it as a kid.

  • "The only places that have mandatory filtering at the moment are Saudi Arabia and China"...

That should be alarming enough for our government. Good luck MM with the case against AFACT too.

  • as one man once said (can't remember the name but he hit it on the head): under howard we were the 51st state of USA, now under rudd we're apart of the people's republic of china, next thing you know there's going to be a big picture of kevin 'mao zedong' rudd displayed across the front of parliament house, in homage to the great fearless leader who brought communism to this country.

  • Why does no one in the media actually get this? They never make a big enough point of the MASSIVE reduction in internet performance early testing of this filter has brought about (87% speed loss).

  • some may be better than none, but what about everything else that is potentially blocked and where does filtering end and censorship start?
