I was anorexic/ bulimic when I was in middle school, I actually gained weight over time. I went from ana/mia to an obsessive over-eating because I never got help other than when my family found out they force fed me. Now I'm okay with it and losing weight healthy and don't do stupid stuff anymore, but It still crosses my mind, like I can't eat infront of people without getting upset, I doubt that'll ever go away
@weepingwillows21 No i don't think so.People are not all anorexic or suffering from boulimia disorders and it's happy! It's a mental, psychological trouble before everything. And a control of emotions and pain.Everyone is not concerned.i know some people who are not anorexic or bulimic.
yes it is true that bulimics and anorexics can be fat. what happens is when a person stops eating their body needs to find something to feed off of in order to function on a daily basis and since they are not feeding their bodies with food it needs to go to the next available source for energy so it starts to feed off of its muscle. Muscle is your body's largest fat burning organ. Once the muscle starts to deplete your fat would get higher because there isn't any muscle left.
As a morbidly obese person, I started crying when the heavy woman was talking about her experiences because I can relate to that all too well.... Thin people or normal weight people don't realize what it's like to worry about every day situations as obstacles, to have to ask yourself if you'll be able to fit in the booth at he restaurant or the movie seat or, like this woman is talking about, a seat on a bus... and having people looking at you as you try to do these things....
I love the part of the movie when there in the room laura is like me i am overweight i dont eat..but when i do i shove my food in & throw it up.....i do it because i have so much h8i hate being fat,
by resorting to a distractions or addictions, some people overeat, some smoke take drugs, drink , sexual perversion, others starve themselves to cope with their so called pain that doesn't exist .Its all mind created. The problems are create in the mind and have nothing to do with eternal stimulus!!!!! Change the mind set .

@mastersnet18 it seems to me shes bulimic nervousa (i probably spelled the second one wrong) which means she eats when shes nervous and worried and feeling pain.. but at other times, anorexic. thats pretty much the definition, so im guessing thats what she was.
@chargedchaos Her weight doesn't matter. The problem is her tendency to purge! you could also say that Kate doesn't look that bad but that's irrelevant
Ms. Nelson (Patch) is related to Harriet and Ozzie Nelson -- she is their granddaughter and her father is none other than Ricky Nelson (singer from the 50's) As for her acting abilibty -- it may not be the greatest but I have DEFINITELY seen worse.
@ktar007 In the bit before this, when Kate joins and has her meal, she sits down next to Cathy. Cathy asks her what she is. She sayd bulimic and Cathy says something along the lines as "another one of us".
@jokester859 It is actually common for a Bulimic to be overweight. And actually, despite popular belief that Bulimics are stick thin, most Bulimics are either slightly underweight, average, or slightly overweight because although they purge their food, their body (especially after doing it for a long time) will automatically start absorbing some of the calories. And since the metabolism slows down, Bulimics and even some Anorexics (depending on how much they eat) will start to gain weight.
@labellavitaxox this this this this. I also want to say that it does NOT take a 14 BMI to be anorexic. DSM-wise, yes, one must be a certain BMI to "qualify". As far as behaviors go, and the psychology goes, and the way someone FEELS, someone can be 250 lbs and be anorexic. Especially since one of the ~guidelines~ is losing a large amount of weight in a short amount of time. One can lose 15% of their body weight and still be overweight or a normal weight. It's psychological. Not physical.
@SorryToMaria No, you cannot be 250lbs and anorexic. You CAN be 250lbs and eating disordered, since anorexia is no better or worse than the others. Anorexia does have distinct, physical complications brought on by starvation (not only malnutrition).
oh my god! she is the perfect patient, t! thats exactly what they said about me my firs tweeks in the hospital and just the same they wanted me to show my true emotions! I finally did "erupt"... got the ng tube as a result ^^

I like the fact that they have overweight people playing patients with bulimia. Makes me feel less alone (even though it is only a fictional film)

@piglywiggle You can't be diagnosed as anorexic at an overweight bmi! They'd classify you as EDNOS

there's always a bunch of average weight people, a really skinny one, and a fat one in these eating disorder clinic movies.

In this movie, yes. In many of the other movies they do a pretty good job of representing what these eating disorders do to your body.
