Teaching starts in the home with values, morals, etc. So easy to blame the teachers who have been made into babysitters for the past few generations. Blame the family or lack of. I worked for my dream - nobody handed it to me. My parents had passed along good work ethics. Entitlement? You live in a democracy - that's your entitlement. The system owes you squat. Are these kids working to pay their way thru college? Get a job, pay into SS & when you hit 67, you'll get a check. Nothing is free.
We have a scum in the half White House that promotes this leeching mentality at every opportunity in hopes of votes, that is how serious this socialism travesty has become in the USA.
@lesleym128 Unnecessary huh? Well dear, you are $130,000 in DEBT now and so is your Mommie and Daddy because of this Chicago Crime Boy..but you just keep living in your social utopia and get reinforcement from your friends how smart you all are and how you know everything..and then explain the horrific condition of the USA since the Demoncrats took over in 2006.
@rickinnev - I'm not a politically correct person. What I referred to was the half White House part. We don't choose our parents. Don't inject race/religion into this.Otherwise, I agree with you. Did you read my remark b4 yours? At 63, I think I've seen it all & the next day, some other crap comes along. I worked for what I have & day by day, I see everything I worked for taken slowly away. NO, nobody gave me anything & I can go back further than 2006. Pls. read my full comment.
Are you kidding me??? The public school system put the "gimme me" idea into our youth's future? Oh hell no!!! The public school system is too busy meeting President Bush's school standards to be able to teach kids anything but passing tests!!!! The "gimme med" mentality partly comes from the government for allowing people to abuse the welfare and social security system for years! Not to mention the way kids are being brought up by their very own parents. Look in your own backyard!!!
@pyronaught No it's not always Bush. I don't care if your a Rep. or Dem. or Liberal or assoc. with any other party it's the facts. Perhaps you should check before you make statements like "you people". Get educated! Oh yeah that's right the Bush's school standards a school has to meet them in order to get federal funding.
@MsMischeviousgirl Get educated? How about get real! School standards have absolutely nothing to do with students spewing the liberal mind virus that government owes them everything. Kids would not be saying that unless the idea were implanted into their noggins prior to college. Do the "Bush Standards" include liberal indoctrination? I didn't think so. Unless the kids were blacks I doubt their parents fed them this "gov owes me" mentality, which leaves public schools.
@pyronaught I am real and I can make statements without making racial slurs. This clip thinks that they can blame schools for creating the gimme me attitude by looking at one school. If you went to school and learned about statistics then you would know that's not how you prove anything based upon one school.
Very true. Our youth has no clue of what really happens. Everyone should work and make it with out social service's help. Let's stop being so dependable on the government and do something for ourself
Tony965070, my friend YOU are the IDIOT...! This guy has more sense in his left earlobe than you'll ever have! I'm sure you are one of the IDIOTS who believes everyone OWES you a living. What are you and your "OCCUPY-NOTHING-BRAINDEAD" Idiot friends going to do when the top "1%" take their Billions/Millions and leave you LEACHES alone??? Will you then start leaching on each other??? YOU, this IDIOT President, and your friends will KILL this country, if you are allowed your way.
Holy Cow! Talk about "having your cake and eating it, too". Tell you what, my little collectivists, I won't be working for your retirement, nor for your next latte.
@tony965070 because those "ghetto college students" are now protesting in every major city for the exact things they said the government owes them, dumb ass. The only idiots here are the ones such as yourself who think the toothfairy mind virus can be ignored without consequences down the road.
@tony965070 Thank you! I don't know why anyone would jump to believe this guy! If something sounds unbelievable and there's zero proof, that's probably because it's not true.
@graaaaaagh: Not necessarily. We need taxes to maintain our infrastructure (social services, roads and bridges, schools, etc.). It only becomes theft when those who are taxed for whatever services do not benefit from them whatsoever. For example, it does not benefit me when someone on food stamps is able to buy steak and lobster, while I have never been eligible for food stamps.
@n68firebird. Once again, people can be ignorant. But that doesn't deter my overall point. My overall point being that Fox news is a load of shit. I've seen more fake analaytical data and supposed "experts" on Fox than on Alien documentaries. I agree people should work for what they want, ALL people should. Politian's children getting free tuition isn't fair and equal. Then they lash out against the people with false data in order to sway popular opinion. It's bullshit and we all know it.
@wes39393: I can only surmise that you are happy to listen to the lock-step liberal tripe offered on most news stations and can't stand anything different. I listen to, and read, news from many different sources. I don't 'follow' any talk show hosts as I don't need anyone to digest information for me, although I might listen to this or that individual from time to time if they are discussing a subject that interests me. I don't necessarily like, nor 'hate', any particular news source.
I had a professor who assigned us something like this. At the time, I didn't realize how conservative I was, and when I got my paper back with all the red ink, I FELT LIKE THE ASSHOLE for thinking the best thing about America is choice and the ability move up in class.
That professor was a fucking asshat straight from grad school, every single person got D's NO LIE...
@Magicwillnz Says Who? By what standards? So where in the world should we look up to, cause they must be doing things better? I hear that the American Dream is lost, but I never get a good answer as to why it failed us.
@zieben64 By the standards of other developed countries. Wikipedia's article on "socio-economic mobility the United States" is a very good general introduction. In general, the phenomenon is well-documented and if you care about social mobility and the American dream it's time you digged deeper into the fundamental nature of class mobility.
@Magicwillnz Ahh, so my physics teacher from serbia like many many others don't flock to the USA for a better future? You realize USA has most influx of foreigners for more opportunities, we don't even let them all in. I guess we should be more like sweden, greece, and italy, where the only people who have long term jobs are the ones who work for the state...
@zieben64 First of all, that's self-evidently not true. Sweden, Germany, Norway, Finland etc have highly successful private sectors... Nokia and Ikea ring a bell? Even the northern part of Italy is pretty successful. Immigration is pretty much a moot point for me... there's plenty of people trying to get to *any* industrialized country. Immigration is not an indicator of social mobility.
@Magicwillnz The people I mentioned are coming here FROM those countries. You need nto study more about europe if you think sweden and italy are doing fine. germany is the exception.
@zieben64 I didn't say Sweden and Italy are doing fine... particularly not Italy. I'm just saying that they have significant private sectors and they have immigration, not emigration. If immigration is a measure of social mobility, then Zimbabwe is doing better than the United States.
@Magicwillnz: I think not. The only reason the rate of illegal immigration is slowing is because the illegals (especially those who cross our southern border illegally) are being caught and deported, or being denied jobs, housing, and freebie social services, so they self-deport.
@Magicwillnz Are you a politician, or just a moron. You mentioned Italy. Why would you defend Italy at all if it wasn't doing so well in your eyes. Don't try to flip this on me, I know how you people operate.
Only an asshole like you would try to say immigration ISN'T an indication of better social mobility.
@zieben64 What's with the random hostility? You know "how I operate"? I don't think you do.
Take Japan for example. No one can deny Japan has a very successful private sector. At the same time, the country itself has problems in the form of stubborn deflation, it's not an economically healthy country. So successful private sectors doesn't mean overall good economic health. Italy's problems are not the same as Japan's but you get the thrust of my point.
@Magicwillnz The thrust of my point." Who talks like that? I'll tell you who, people who know they don't say much, so they stick in random unnecessary words to make themselves feel better. Don't worry most college teachers reinforce this idea, particularly with a Liberal Arts degree.
You are a headache, don't give me this random hostility BS. So I guess the MASS EURO USA IMMIGRATION is NOT an indicator of social mobility.
And if you still don't see why I am upset, you never will.
@zieben64 I have an idea why your pissed. I confront you with an idea that is contrary with your preconceptions, and instead of critiquing it, evaluating it rationally or doing research you get pissed at the messenger. Social mobility in the US is low. Sorry I killed your American Dream.
@Magicwillnz History is on my side, immigration IS an indication of better social mobility. If you disagree, maybe you have preconceptions that need to be addressed
@zieben64 Ask yourself this: Are immigrants out to become millionaires or to improve their lives? Your Serbian teacher, for example, probably decided being a middle-class person in the USA was better than being middle-class in Serbia. That calculation has nothing to do with social mobility but instead with the immediate impact on one's welfare. Doesn't that seem just a little more true?
@zieben64 No. Social/economic mobility is the ability for someone to change their income. It is conceivable that you can have a highly stratified society that is so absurdly rich that even the poor do well. In fact, this is literally the argument that some libertarians make in regards to the United States... though there are some problems even with this.
@Magicwillnz: A friend of mine and I were laid off after the NASA shuttle missions ended - we both worked for the same NASA contractor. We were forced to move on - and we did. That was a few years ago; now we have a business together where we work out of my house. I'll just say that this business draws on our personal core competencies, and we've picked up five more clients in two years. We STAY busy.
Nobody handed this to us - we figured it out on our own.
@zieben64: I'll give you one guess as to who has been flagging your comments as spam, LOL!!
I read recently where Ireland has been pressuring the USA to bring in thousands of Irish on H1B visas - as if we don't have enough unemployed people here and now. This is in addition to the 30,000+ Irish illegals that the Irish consulate has been insisting we must provide citizenship to for years now. I'm not sure about the other Europeans, I just know about the Irish.
@n68firebird (3) Immigration: that's no doubt a reason why US immigration is declining... that's not my point. My point was simply that immigration is not an indicator of social mobility.
There's no such thing as a country with a "homogeneous culture".
@Magicwillnz: BULL. Many European countries have had a basically homogenous culture - that is, until the Muslims started pouring over their borders and some nations were too stupid to repel them.
Muslims are clearly the source of European instability. Did you know World War 2 was caused by Muslims? If only those countries weren't stupid enough to repel them, all that bloodshed could have been avoided.
Just because they're all white people doesn't mean they're all the fucking same.
@Magicwillnz: I really don't know why you are trying to tell me something I already know. But the Muslims did NOT cause WWII. They were in favor of WWII, because Hitler was annihilating the Jews; but they did not get themselves involved in the bloodshed. They stood around waiting, like a bunch of vultures, to feed off of what was left after the carnage.
@Magicwillnz: Are you talking about legal or illegal immigration? Illegal immigration is declining because we are watching our borders better. Legal immigration is declining because we are finally aware of the fact that high unemployment was not just a temporary fluke, it's been hanging on for years...and people have been complaining to their elected officials about the problem.
@Magicwillnz: There are no countries with totally homogenous cultures, there never have been. I was stating this in the general sense. But countries in Europe have cultural mindsets and practices that have existed for millenia - quite unlike the USA.
@Magicwillnz: Wikipedia is not considered the best of sources for information; it's a potluck of ideas - some right, some way out of whack, even if they are annotated. Colleges and universities do not accept Wikipedia as a source for reports and presentations.
@n68firebird (1) I agree with you about Wikipedia, but it is a good place to get started, not to end. I've studied a bit about immigration... unfortunately, the resources I used when I was student are not available on the internet, so I did the best I could.
@Magicwillnz: I wholeheartedly disagree with you. I think Steve Jobs, if he were alive, and Mark Zuckerberg would, also. So would most sports stars and people in the media and movie industry.
A huge problem in this country is an attitude of, "I want what you got and I want it NOW - but I don't wanna have to do what you did to get it - and I want it NOW".
@n68firebird (2) No. That's your projection of people's attitudes. People aren't envious of Mark Zuckerburg, they don't mind working, but THERE IS NO WORK. People want jobs. They want stability. They want not to starve. That isn't a list of crazy demands.
Now you've got 68% of millionaires pretty much demanding the government raise their taxes. I don't think you've even got millionaires on your side, just a few pricks willing to manipulate naive people like you into supporting them. No offense.
@Magicwillnz: Oh, BS. There are plenty of jobs out there. Try Monster.com for one, or for government jobs (which, I think, are typically given to returning servicemen and women) try jobsusa.com. You have to keep looking if you want a job, no one is going to ring your doorbell and hand you one on a silver platter. Or, how about doing the entrepreneurial thing and figuring out a business for yourself, instead of sitting on your duff and expecting someone to give you a job? Jobs are NOT commodities
@n68firebird You see, I got a job after half a year of searching, and in the end the job I got wasn't one I applied for... it was literally given to me. Being a entrepreneur requires something called capital and that is outside the reach of people without money or credit. People spend years looking for jobs even when they apply every day. In short: you don't have a clue. This is why I trust statistics, not random people making random assertions.
@Magicwillnz: Entrepreneurship requires a PLAN, first of all. Product or service - it doesn't matter. Maybe you'll have to wait tables or work in a grocery store, or both for a time, but you can start small. I have known people who started lawn businesses with used equipment, then sold their businesses and used the capital for a bigger plan.
But oh - I forgot - that requires forethought and effort.
@Magicwillnz: First, let me correct myself, the website for government jobs is usajobs.com, not jobsusa.com as I had stated previously.
And, for all I know you don't want to bust your butt or get your hands dirty to earn money; you want someone to hand you a nice office job with good benefits on a platter. Well, golly gee, you don't think half the country is expecting such an entitlement? Maybe you haven't bothered to distinguish yourself from the herd...
@Magicwillnz: When I saw Obama's SS#, I knew immediately that something was wrong. His SS# should have been a lot higher - such a low number would have been from decades before his birth. There is a woman, Miki Booth, who has written a book about this issue; evidently, both her husband and her children were born in HI, their birth certificates look nothing like Obama's, etc. I haven't bought her book, but I might.
@zieben64: Question: was this exercise you participated in at the very beginning of the semester, somewhere in-between, or near the end? If near the middle or near the end, then it would reflect on his instruction!
@n68firebird near end. He was not experienced at all and he liked to tell us about his World of Warcraft study he did as grad student I believe. My college is no is no harvard--just state school-- but CMON, my teacher is a WoW nerd?
@zieben64: I got my BBA from the U. of Houston, which is now a 'Tier 1' university (whatever that means). However, since the classes were so much more expensive there, I got as many freshman & sophomore credits from local colleges and transferred them (I was allowed to transfer 66 credits, I transferred 66 credits, LOL). I was actually impressed with the professors and instructors whom I encountered, even in the local colleges. I never ran into the mess you describe at those schools.
Yeah, its an ether of liberalism that is noticeable to the people who don't swim the same way. It began at orientation, I didn't no what it meant at the time, but just the mention of "fox news" by one of the speakers got a big laugh.
Having said that, I've had some really great teachers as well My philosophy teacher is pretty good. A little dry, but he is objective for a beginner's philosophy class. He even mentioned Ayn Rand the first day, which I thought was swell.
@zieben64: (Cont'd from previous) However, I did encounter a very strange instructor, a PhD candidate, who taught the required "Philosophy of Ethics" course which I took one summer at the U. of Houston. This guy didn't like a paper I wrote, and he yelled at me when I asked him about it. Long story short, I went to the professor, discussed the incident, and stated that I did not trust that PhD candidate to fairly judge my final exam. The prof saw to it that he himself graded it; I got an "A".
yeah right this asshole professor who makes his living off of teaching students bullshit like this ..the students were right the government should do more for the average citizen instead of protecting rich snobs
@cocksniffer88 read some Thomas Sowell books. shows how every government program just made whatever problem they were trying to solve much worse. nah, you don't like evidence.
@cocksniffer88: ? Wait...how is it BS when a professor shows by example what it feels like for others to expect you to shell out bucks for their dreams, and you don't have the money for your own? How is this BS? Did you absolutely not get the point of the video, or do you just prejudicially hate it because it is on Fox?
@n68firebird ..wake up asshole..the analogy was totally fucked because he as a professor is exploiting the student who is poor by definition "starving student" whereas the rich have way more than enough for their yachts and second homes and SHOULD pay more to help the country as a whole and not just to help their own families and fuck everyone else.
@cocksniffer88: You wake up, asshole. If someone earned the money for a yacht, or if their grandfather earned it for them, goodie for them. I don't want it. This entitlement crap is all about greed and lazy punks trying to legislate money out of other peoples' pockets because they refuse to take the long, hard road of earning said money themselves.
@n68firebird ...wake up jerk..you contradicted yourself because the problem is that some of us...namely george w bush..dont have to take the "long, hard road" because of the family they were born into...that spoiled brat bush inherited his power and has driven our country into the ground...last i checked we dont live in a monarchy but sure looks like it...take a hike clown
@cocksniffer88: Oh, WAAAH, can't get into my bank account or wallet, can you? WAAAH!
I am one of the 49% of people who pay taxes in this country, and a member of the teeming middle class - and I don't mind. Everything I have is MINE, and I earned it. If someone else inherited money, that just means that someone down their line took a risk, worked hard and invested well, something. I say, good for them. I don't need their money. Obviously, you do. Poor you.
@cocksniffer88: Who wouldn't want their kids and grandkids to have better lives than they did? It is obvious that you are just jealous that some succeeded - where maybe you, or yours, did not.
@cocksniffer88: First of all, you are not presenting your argument very well with all the nasty name calling and vulgar language. You might ask yourself, how did this 'starving student' get to be in this world in the first place? Why, the mother and father conceived this 'starving student' that they couldn't pay for. Another point: why is this 'starving student' not working while going to school, as I did when I got my degree? Sure it takes longer, but it was worth my time and effort to do so.
@minklz Yes, it's propaganda! There's no kids out there expecting the government to pay for everything! That's just another Fox News lie! Most kids nowadays work hard for their money! Hell, I bet most of them are putting themselves through college, just like I did 20 years ago. Those rich corporate baby boomers deserve to die! Those Baby Boomers used to protest the same way OWS does. Then they grew up and started making their own money. I was brain washed in college too! Then I grew up!
@you831able: I guess you never heard of this thingee called the Vietnam War? Or, that young people could avoid the draft if they went to college? There is absolutely no comparison. The world was a completely different place back then. The "Baby Boomers" weren't looking for entitlements.
@n68firebird That was sarcasm! I'm 50 years old, I know exactly what the protests were about. They were anti-government. The students back then were persuaded to protest by their professors. This is similar to the OWS protest in that the liberal professors set their agenda. I voted democrat, until I realized how they wanted to take my money, and use it to buy votes through entitlements. That was my turning point. It's out right theft.
@n68firebird - I don't understand why people like Henry Ford could start a business from nothing, and years later be demonized for hard work and sacrifice. When Bill Gates was starting Microsoft in his garage, did he somehow cheat? The only people getting cheated right now are the upper 50%! We have a whole class of do nothings, that expect money for nothing!
@you831able: I don't have a problem with people who have more money than I do. Some people win the lottery, some play for years and never do. The way I see it, fortune is a combination of a number of things: risk-taking, smarts, timing, and action. Some people get rich, some don't. I've never been the "sour grapes" kind of person because my Lotto ticket didn't win. And I know that I wouldn't have any room to complain if someone won 200 million and I didn't, because I didn't buy a ticket!
@minklz: How is it thinly veiled propaganda? Because a college professor is trying to give an example of how it feels to have someone steal what is yours for their own purposes? The thought behind this is, why don't the would-be thieves make their own money to buy what they want?
Oh - that's right, they are still waiting to have someone hand them a job with benefits on a platter...okay.
OMG. IF YOU LIKE COMMUNISM GO TO A COMMUNIST COUNTRY, THEN LET ME KNOW HOW MUCH YOU LIKE IT. AMERICA IS FREE. AS FOR ME GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH.
@n68firebird It may not if we change course - which is what I'm hoping. But as the saying goes - Hope for the best, prepare for the worse.
You can't continue borrowing forever. It will come to an end. Right now, our productivity is still more than our debt. This is good, as we can still dig ourselves out. But as soon as our debt is more than we can produce, then we're screwed. We'll have a Greece-like fallout.
@saturnined: Look it from the viewpoint of a teacher: these kids were inflicted upon the school system by parents who obviously didn't want to get involved, and had 'better things to do with their time' - parents who obviously did NOT discuss the importance of education with their children, nor bother to see what they were learning, or if they were learning anything at all.
This is stupid propaganda - sickening. FOX pushes this crap to discourage fair taxation. The primary objective here is simply to get the general public, the 99% if you will to accept our plight of paying twice as many taxes than many super wealthy and corporations. Obama never suggested taking money from someone and giving it to others never ever not once, that's twisted logic to begin with. Making Millionaires and Billionaires pay 35% just like us is not redistribution its fair taxing.
FAIR TAXATION??????? What is FAiR about stealing at gunpoint to give to someone else?
You can only take away form the rich until they are no longer rich...then whom would you rob? anyone in school is being taught not to think for themselves..real simple, not left or righ false paradigm but fact 'The deliberate dumbing down of America', read it and weep! The Idiocracy is watching any tel-LIE-vision
@unsheepled See that the shit I'm talking about. If you pull your head outta your ass for just one second. You know what's fair about stealing at gun point? NOTHING YOU IDIOT CAUSE NO ONE EVER SAID THAT!!! that's your emotional bullshit spawned from this propaganda. Ok you fucking retard lets try it on a 2nd grade level. If I have to pay 2 oranges to the gov, and a super wealthy person pays just 1 orange. ITS NOT FAIR do you get that all???
@gorillafix Coporations and the Mega-wealthy 1% are LAUGHING AT YOU! You stupid mothafucka. You think they give a half a shit about you, me or anybody that has to worry about money? Damn I can't believe that so many of you fucking idiots really think 99% percent of the American population in wrong about this. wake the fuck up for the love of Christ. The Super wealthy love to take your shit. And now that we have a chance to get our shit back you're defending them?!?
@cloudshe I figured you'd come up with some ol bullshit to divert from the real. you whites are all the same. Scared to look in the mirror an see the evil.
@gorillafix i can only hope that should you mature, your anger will subside and your racist attitude will change for the better. we already have a president that dislikes white people, how can we "move forward" (as he loves to say) with that kind of crap in the WH?
@unsheepled You said quote "You can only take away form the rich until they are no longer rich." WTF? News Flash!- It's the other way around you imbecile! Why do you think Occupy Wall St. is manifesting itself right now?? Think really hard? Because the RICH can only take so much from the middle class before they become poor. That's whats happening. When on God green earth have you ever heard of poor people taking anything from the rich? Never is right. This ain't Robin Hood. Wake the fuck up.
@gorillafix: Question to you: What, exactly are the "rich" supposedly taking away from the middle class?
Poor people take plenty from the middle class and any of the rich who pay taxes (i.e., who can't find enough deductions) in the form of social services - food stamps, section 8 housing, WIC, free emergency care...the list goes on.
@gorillafix: So - your idea of "fair taxation" is that people who have managed to do well because their grandfather or great-grandfather worked hard, took on risk and started a business or whatever should be penalized because you want money out of their pockets? Thank you for exemplifying the "gimme generation" mindset.
LMAO You guys actually beleive this phony Fox news bullshit? Occupy Wall Street is about the 99% being greedy? How? Because were tired of living in poverty while the CEO of GM gets to have a government funded Leer Jet? Yup, we sure are greedy. College kids can be ignorant, especially ones at Ivy League schools, but that has nothing to do with real people and the situation of our country. What next, Economics students get to run the Federal Reserve? What a joke. Stop watching entertainment news.
@wes39393 Greed is not a component of financial status. It's a state of mind. A destitute person can be greedy when they seek to take from someone else that which is not theirs. That is what makes OWS as "greedy" as many of the rich people they arbitrarily resent. You have a right to liberty, not result. Use it well.
@talonspoint: Excellent post! I'll save this, along with your s/n as the source, along with other posts I have saved which I find interesting and intuitive.
@wes39393: Oh, shut up. I remember plenty of OWS signs from brats wanting the gov't to pay for their student loans. Hello a-holes, you signed a contract to pay, now you PAY. Or, they could do as I did, work while going to college. I got an AAS in the trade of drafting and design, worked in my field for many years (even taught my trade at a private tech college), then went back and got a BBA years later. I worked in a grocery store part time to defray expenses, then went back to work.
@wes39393: Are you so blinded by your stupid hatred of Fox News that you just can't get the point of what the professor is saying, or the example he presented to his students? Seriously, would it enter your closed mind if that professor spoke on CNN or MSNBC?
Ridiculously narrow-minded doesn't even begin to describe your mindset.
Do these kids think the government has a magic lever where Medicare payment and Social Security checks fall from the sky? They have to pay for all these services through taxes--which would have to go up A LOT for those things.
Nothing the government does is "free". Just look at how big the debt and the deficit are as it is--you can't even convince people to accept spending cuts or tax hikes to manage current spending levels. I really worry about this country.
What! You mean theres no free ride??... Purhapse if I were an illegal immigrant I would get a free ride... At least they do in my state. I was taught to WORK to get the things I want & pay for the things I worked for with the money I earned! There were & still no free rides for me. Todays youth needs to understand they are in control of their own future and they need to WORK to get what they want!
Wow. I had no idea how fucked up my generation was until I saw this (I'm 23 years old). I can't believe someone actually wrote that quote at 1:37. I was always taught that we as humans ARE responsible for our actions, PERIOD.
I could go off on a economic/political rant here, but YouTube only allows 500 characters per comment (plus I'm not in the mood to rant now) I will say that I am impressed that the mainstream media ran this segment, though.
@Teraforce88: Thank you for a refreshing take on the situation presented in the video. I am a good bit older than you are, but we (my siblings and I, as well as our cousins) were all taught the same things. My father was very strict; he especially stressed to all of us that, "The world does NOT owe you a living." All of us, including cousins, are and have been contributing members of society - i.e., the 49% of taxpayers.
@riseingstardust: Exactly how do the "one percent" supposedly "plunder people"? You are so WRONG on so many counts. The people who plunder are the grifters who manage to stay just 'under the line' where they would have to pay taxes, and where they can live off of taxpayers instead of supporting themselves and their families. .
You can moralize all you want, but if housing and medical cannot be paid out of the wages that these kids will be earning, don't be surprised when they start demanding a redistribution of wealth. Personally, I wouldn't mind being taxed to assist the younger generation nearly as much as being taxed to support our weapons industry and overseas shenanigans.
@bammbamm12: Of course I expect snots from the "gimme generation" whose teachers were forbidden from putting red marks on their papers when they sent in a poorly-written assignment to whine when they don't get what they want. Such individuals have obviously never learned the concept of earning anything. I and every one of my siblings and cousins were taught the value of money from an early age, and did extra chores around the house to make extra money. We never considered the 'gimme' mindset.
@n68firebird - True, but these kids were never educated. Public school today is 12 years of political propaganda. Do a youtube search for Charlotte Izerbyt - you'll know what the end game is.
@bammbamm12: Maybe they need to look at either living at home or staying at cheaper alternative housing, instead of expecting to have an apartment all to themselves while going to school. Maybe they can't afford to go to an Ivy League college or university, and/or their grades in HS or MS weren't good enough to get them a scholarship, so they have to go to a local college/university. The "maybes" here are endless; but the basic point is that citizens are not responsible for their college costs.
@n68firebird - kids know something's wrong with the world they're moving into, and they don't know why. From the time you're 5, you get on the ramp and do what you're told. You trust authority. Now they know authority screwed them with false promises. Then there are broken families too. It's different today - kids have no roots. If you don't start giving - they're going to start taking.
@bammbamm12: Oh - so I'm supposed to throw money at someone else's brats just because they were plopped on this earth? Ummmmm...NO. They can make their own way in this world, as I did, or stay with their momma.
@umdesch4: Not just anyone can become a professor, especially a tenured professor. These are EARNED positions. Oh, but that's right, perhaps you don't have a concept of earning anything. Okay.
Everyone here is missing the point. It's the system that is letting us down, not the people. Can you tell me that the polar bears of 400 years ago were better than the polar bears of today in Alaska? 400 years ago they hunted their own food and took care of themselves. Today, as any resident of Alaska will tell you, they have trash cans to eat from. And they keep coming back to them for a free meal and are gradually losing the ability to fend for themselves.
@7117hpr7117: The system is not perfect, and one of its many imperfections is the fact that it has allowed people to sit on their rear ends and get paid for doing so.
@7117hpr7117: How about provide a germane example if you are pretending to philosophize?
The 'system' is not "letting us down"; some people just don't want to make the effort to get anywhere in life and expect jobs, benefits, and etc. to be given to them on a silver platter. Oh, it's always someone else's fault when you aren't where you want to be, isn't it? Nevermind the fact that you haven't done anything to get yourself anywhere, or really screwed up somewhere along the way.
@countremy730: Pity that you do not, and have not, known anyone who was an example of "the American Dream". I know a man whose father worked on the railroad all his life, but his son became a Harvard educated doctor. How did this happen? That man's parents knew that education is the great equalizer in this country, and they looked to their son's and daughter's education while growing up. He passed an admission test, and got a tuition-paid scholarship to Harvard. His sister became a teacher.
That was a disgusting video. We are raising a generation of entitled communists. Wait until they see what communism does. It sounded great to the Chinese until people who disagreed with the government started getting lined up and shot. We are being sold a false hope. We need to stick with what made America the greatest country on earth for 200+ years.
This all comes from governments sponsored educational system. Democrats, republicans, are owned by the same side. They wanna keep you divided. The American people need to start asking, who do we owe this debt to ? Who invented credit ?
@RevoltorAdapt: I think you are on the wrong board. 'Credit' is a concept that was devised millenia ago (it is even mentioned in the Bible); your comment is so far out in left field that nobody really wants to pursue it.
I am ashamed of the republican party who has through currency devaluation stolen from the american people. Voters should demand accountability from the GOP for stealing from the poor.
@manretify Explain???? The fucking poor don't pay taxes except for sales tax. Explain how the GOP is stealing from the poor? I'm so sick of listening democratic drones whining about how they're victims!
@you831able the GOP likes to redistribute wealth through secret means. They do it through inflation. Reagan tripled national debt, Bush doubled national debt. What do you think happens when they do that shit? Money goes from the poor to the rich
@manretify So let me get this straight, the national debt was 9 trillion under Bush. Now just 3 years later it's at 15 trillion! Deficit spending is 1.2 trillion per year right now. But with your super logic, you're saying that the poor people (that are not paying taxes) are giving their money to the rich through inflation? Exactly what money are the poor giving to the rich? When Obama borrowed the 1.2 trilion (stimulus) that we didn't have, it devalued the dollar.
@manretify- So when the evil rich paid the taxes that supplied the 5 trillion that Obama spent in 3 years, somehow in Democrat logic, the republicans created inflation with Obama's spending? Then the poor people that collect welfare and don't have money gave their money to the rich through inflation! That makes perfect sense! Ring Ring Hello! Oh ok! Hey your village just called, they want their imbecile back!
@you831able Obama does the same but not nearly as bad as the GOP 15/10 is 50%, not a doubling or tripling. Besides, Obama also gives handouts to the poor, so he's counteracting some of the wealth distribution.
@you831able: LOL! I'm going to remember your post for future reference, if you don't mind. I save such posts in a word document, along with the author's s/n.
MR. Chambless!!!!! Yes I use to be taught by him about 6 years ago for my economics class. One of the best teachers I ever had. He really opened my eyes to self responsibility after the public school brainwashing we were all subject too.
@quicktripgas: Thank you for such a refreshing accolade for Mr. Chambless, amongst so many nonsensical posts!
Mr. Chambless is apparently passionate about teaching, and has a heart for his students and for this country. His students need to learn that sometimes it is good to learn a hard lesson, because it can jar you out of a bad and/or prejudicial mindset.

MsMischeviousgirl 2 days ago
@MsMischeviousgirl Get educated? How about get real! School standards have absolutely nothing to do with students spewing the liberal mind virus that government owes them everything. Kids would not be saying that unless the idea were implanted into their noggins prior to college. Do the "Bush Standards" include liberal indoctrination? I didn't think so. Unless the kids were blacks I doubt their parents fed them this "gov owes me" mentality, which leaves public schools.

@Magicwillnz Says Who? By what standards? So where in the world should we look up to, cause they must be doing things better? I hear that the American Dream is lost, but I never get a good answer as to why it failed us.
zieben64 2 weeks ago
@zieben64 By the standards of other developed countries. Wikipedia's article on "socio-economic mobility the United States" is a very good general introduction. In general, the phenomenon is well-documented and if you care about social mobility and the American dream it's time you digged deeper into the fundamental nature of class mobility.
Magicwillnz 2 weeks ago
@Magicwillnz Ahh, so my physics teacher from serbia like many many others don't flock to the USA for a better future? You realize USA has most influx of foreigners for more opportunities, we don't even let them all in. I guess we should be more like sweden, greece, and italy, where the only people who have long term jobs are the ones who work for the state...
zieben64 2 weeks ago
@zieben64 First of all, that's self-evidently not true. Sweden, Germany, Norway, Finland etc have highly successful private sectors... Nokia and Ikea ring a bell? Even the northern part of Italy is pretty successful. Immigration is pretty much a moot point for me... there's plenty of people trying to get to *any* industrialized country. Immigration is not an indicator of social mobility.
Magicwillnz 2 weeks ago
@Magicwillnz The people I mentioned are coming here FROM those countries. You need nto study more about europe if you think sweden and italy are doing fine. germany is the exception.
People vote with their feet.
zieben64 2 weeks ago
@zieben64 I didn't say Sweden and Italy are doing fine... particularly not Italy. I'm just saying that they have significant private sectors and they have immigration, not emigration. If immigration is a measure of social mobility, then Zimbabwe is doing better than the United States.
Magicwillnz 2 weeks ago
@Magicwillnz: I think not. The only reason the rate of illegal immigration is slowing is because the illegals (especially those who cross our southern border illegally) are being caught and deported, or being denied jobs, housing, and freebie social services, so they self-deport.
n68firebird 2 weeks ago
@Magicwillnz Are you a politician, or just a moron. You mentioned Italy. Why would you defend Italy at all if it wasn't doing so well in your eyes. Don't try to flip this on me, I know how you people operate.
Only an asshole like you would try to say immigration ISN'T an indication of better social mobility.
zieben64 2 weeks ago

And if you still don't see why I am upset, you never will.
zieben64 2 weeks ago
@zieben64 I have an idea why your pissed. I confront you with an idea that is contrary with your preconceptions, and instead of critiquing it, evaluating it rationally or doing research you get pissed at the messenger. Social mobility in the US is low. Sorry I killed your American Dream.
Magicwillnz 2 weeks ago
@Magicwillnz History is on my side, immigration IS an indication of better social mobility. If you disagree, maybe you have preconceptions that need to be addressed
zieben64 2 weeks ago
@zieben64 Ask yourself this: Are immigrants out to become millionaires or to improve their lives? Your Serbian teacher, for example, probably decided being a middle-class person in the USA was better than being middle-class in Serbia. That calculation has nothing to do with social mobility but instead with the immediate impact on one's welfare. Doesn't that seem just a little more true?
Magicwillnz 2 weeks ago
@Magicwillnz "nothing to do with social mobility but instead with the immediate impact on one's welfare."

zieben64 2 weeks ago
@zieben64 No. Social/economic mobility is the ability for someone to change their income. It is conceivable that you can have a highly stratified society that is so absurdly rich that even the poor do well. In fact, this is literally the argument that some libertarians make in regards to the United States... though there are some problems even with this.

I read recently where Ireland has been pressuring the USA to bring in thousands of Irish on H1B visas - as if we don't have enough unemployed people here and now. This is in addition to the 30,000+ Irish illegals that the Irish consulate has been insisting we must provide citizenship to for years now. I'm not sure about the other Europeans, I just know about the Irish.
n68firebird 1 week ago
@Magicwillnz: You simply cannot compare those countries with the USA. For the most part, theirs is a homogenous culture; ours is definitely NOT.
n68firebird 2 weeks ago
@n68firebird (3) Immigration: that's no doubt a reason why US immigration is declining... that's not my point. My point was simply that immigration is not an indicator of social mobility.
There's no such thing as a country with a "homogeneous culture".
Magicwillnz 2 weeks ago
@Magicwillnz: BULL. Many European countries have had a basically homogenous culture - that is, until the Muslims started pouring over their borders and some nations were too stupid to repel them.
n68firebird 1 week ago
@n68firebird Britain: English, Welsh, Scots, Irish. Spain: Castillians, Catalans, Basques, Galicians. France: French, Bretons, Lorrainers, Occitans. Germany: Innumerable.
Muslims are clearly the source of European instability. Did you know World War 2 was caused by Muslims? If only those countries weren't stupid enough to repel them, all that bloodshed could have been avoided.
Just because they're all white people doesn't mean they're all the fucking same.
Magicwillnz 1 week ago
@Magicwillnz: I really don't know why you are trying to tell me something I already know. But the Muslims did NOT cause WWII. They were in favor of WWII, because Hitler was annihilating the Jews; but they did not get themselves involved in the bloodshed. They stood around waiting, like a bunch of vultures, to feed off of what was left after the carnage.
n68firebird 1 week ago
@Magicwillnz: Are you talking about legal or illegal immigration? Illegal immigration is declining because we are watching our borders better. Legal immigration is declining because we are finally aware of the fact that high unemployment was not just a temporary fluke, it's been hanging on for years...and people have been complaining to their elected officials about the problem.
n68firebird 1 week ago
@Magicwillnz: There are no countries with totally homogenous cultures, there never have been. I was stating this in the general sense. But countries in Europe have cultural mindsets and practices that have existed for millenia - quite unlike the USA.

@Magicwillnz: I wholeheartedly disagree with you. I think Steve Jobs, if he were alive, and Mark Zuckerberg would, also. So would most sports stars and people in the media and movie industry.
A huge problem in this country is an attitude of, "I want what you got and I want it NOW - but I don't wanna have to do what you did to get it - and I want it NOW".
n68firebird 2 weeks ago

Or, how about doing the entrepreneurial thing and figuring out a business for yourself, instead of sitting on your duff and expecting someone to give you a job? Jobs are NOT commodities
n68firebird 1 week ago
@n68firebird You see, I got a job after half a year of searching, and in the end the job I got wasn't one I applied for... it was literally given to me. Being a entrepreneur requires something called capital and that is outside the reach of people without money or credit. People spend years looking for jobs even when they apply every day. In short: you don't have a clue. This is why I trust statistics, not random people making random assertions.
Magicwillnz 1 week ago
@Magicwillnz: Entrepreneurship requires a PLAN, first of all. Product or service - it doesn't matter. Maybe you'll have to wait tables or work in a grocery store, or both for a time, but you can start small. I have known people who started lawn businesses with used equipment, then sold their businesses and used the capital for a bigger plan.
But oh - I forgot - that requires forethought and effort.

@cocksniffer88: You wake up, asshole. If someone earned the money for a yacht, or if their grandfather earned it for them, goodie for them. I don't want it. This entitlement crap is all about greed and lazy punks trying to legislate money out of other peoples' pockets because they refuse to take the long, hard road of earning said money themselves.
n68firebird 1 week ago

Poor you.

What really disturbs me is that 95% of people who watch this segment will think it's news, rather than thinly-veiled propaganda.
minklz 2 weeks ago
@minklz Yes, it's propaganda! There's no kids out there expecting the government to pay for everything! That's just another Fox News lie! Most kids nowadays work hard for their money! Hell, I bet most of them are putting themselves through college, just like I did 20 years ago. Those rich corporate baby boomers deserve to die! Those Baby Boomers used to protest the same way OWS does. Then they grew up and started making their own money. I was brain washed in college too! Then I grew up!
you831able 2 weeks ago
@you831able: I guess you never heard of this thingee called the Vietnam War? Or, that young people could avoid the draft if they went to college? There is absolutely no comparison. The world was a completely different place back then. The "Baby Boomers" weren't looking for entitlements.
n68firebird 2 weeks ago
@n68firebird That was sarcasm! I'm 50 years old, I know exactly what the protests were about. They were anti-government. The students back then were persuaded to protest by their professors. This is similar to the OWS protest in that the liberal professors set their agenda. I voted democrat, until I realized how they wanted to take my money, and use it to buy votes through entitlements. That was my turning point. It's out right theft.
you831able 2 weeks ago
@n68firebird - I don't understand why people like Henry Ford could start a business from nothing, and years later be demonized for hard work and sacrifice. When Bill Gates was starting Microsoft in his garage, did he somehow cheat? The only people getting cheated right now are the upper 50%! We have a whole class of do nothings, that expect money for nothing!
you831able 2 weeks ago
@you831able: I don't have a problem with people who have more money than I do. Some people win the lottery, some play for years and never do. The way I see it, fortune is a combination of a number of things: risk-taking, smarts, timing, and action. Some people get rich, some don't. I've never been the "sour grapes" kind of person because my Lotto ticket didn't win. And I know that I wouldn't have any room to complain if someone won 200 million and I didn't, because I didn't buy a ticket!
n68firebird 1 week ago
@you831able: Did you not see what was going on at the OWS sites, and the signs they had? Were you not aware of what most of their demands were?
n68firebird 1 week ago
@minklz: How is it thinly veiled propaganda? Because a college professor is trying to give an example of how it feels to have someone steal what is yours for their own purposes? The thought behind this is, why don't the would-be thieves make their own money to buy what they want?
Oh - that's right, they are still waiting to have someone hand them a job with benefits on a platter...okay.

You can't continue borrowing forever. It will come to an end. Right now, our productivity is still more than our debt. This is good, as we can still dig ourselves out. But as soon as our debt is more than we can produce, then we're screwed. We'll have a Greece-like fallout.

Making Millionaires and Billionaires pay 35% just like us is not redistribution its fair taxing.

gorillafix 2 weeks ago
@gorillafix: Question to you: What, exactly are the "rich" supposedly taking away from the middle class?
Poor people take plenty from the middle class and any of the rich who pay taxes (i.e., who can't find enough deductions) in the form of social services - food stamps, section 8 housing, WIC, free emergency care...the list goes on.
n68firebird 2 weeks ago
@gorillafix: So - your idea of "fair taxation" is that people who have managed to do well because their grandfather or great-grandfather worked hard, took on risk and started a business or whatever should be penalized because you want money out of their pockets? Thank you for exemplifying the "gimme generation" mindset.

wes39393 3 weeks ago
@wes39393 Greed is not a component of financial status. It's a state of mind. A destitute person can be greedy when they seek to take from someone else that which is not theirs.

@Teraforce88: Thank you for a refreshing take on the situation presented in the video. I am a good bit older than you are, but we (my siblings and I, as well as our cousins) were all taught the same things. My father was very strict; he especially stressed to all of us that, "The world does NOT owe you a living." All of us, including cousins, are and have been contributing members of society - i.e., the 49% of taxpayers.
n68firebird 1 week ago
Useing the government to plunder people is exactly what the one percent has done. Why dont you put that information up on the news.
riseingstardust 3 weeks ago
@riseingstardust: Exactly how do the "one percent" supposedly "plunder people"? You are so WRONG on so many counts. The people who plunder are the grifters who manage to stay just 'under the line' where they would have to pay taxes, and where they can live off of taxpayers instead of supporting themselves and their families. .
n68firebird 1 week ago
You can moralize all you want, but if housing and medical cannot be paid out of the wages that these kids will be earning, don't be surprised when they start demanding a redistribution of wealth. Personally, I wouldn't mind being taxed to assist the younger generation nearly as much as being taxed to support our weapons industry and overseas shenanigans.
bammbamm12 3 weeks ago 2
@bammbamm12: Of course I expect snots from the "gimme generation" whose teachers were forbidden from putting red marks on their papers when they sent in a poorly-written assignment to whine when they don't get what they want. Such individuals have obviously never learned the concept of earning anything. I and every one of my siblings and cousins were taught the value of money from an early age, and did extra chores around the house to make extra money. We never considered the 'gimme' mindset.
n68firebird 1 week ago
@n68firebird - True, but these kids were never educated. Public school today is 12 years of political propaganda. Do a youtube search for Charlotte Izerbyt - you'll know what the end game is.
bammbamm12 1 week ago
@bammbamm12: Maybe they need to look at either living at home or staying at cheaper alternative housing, instead of expecting to have an apartment all to themselves while going to school. Maybe they can't afford to go to an Ivy League college or university, and/or their grades in HS or MS weren't good enough to get them a scholarship, so they have to go to a local college/university. The "maybes" here are endless; but the basic point is that citizens are not responsible for their college costs.
n68firebird 1 week ago
@n68firebird - kids know something's wrong with the world they're moving into, and they don't know why. From the time you're 5, you get on the ramp and do what you're told. You trust authority. Now they know authority screwed them with false promises. Then there are broken families too. It's different today - kids have no roots. If you don't start giving - they're going to start taking.

He passed an admission test, and got a tuition-paid scholarship to Harvard. His sister became a teacher.

you831able 2 weeks ago
@you831able the GOP likes to redistribute wealth through secret means. They do it through inflation. Reagan tripled national debt, Bush doubled national debt. What do you think happens when they do that shit? Money goes from the poor to the rich
manretify 2 weeks ago
@manretify So let me get this straight, the national debt was 9 trillion under Bush. Now just 3 years later it's at 15 trillion! Deficit spending is 1.2 trillion per year right now. But with your super logic, you're saying that the poor people (that are not paying taxes) are giving their money to the rich through inflation? Exactly what money are the poor giving to the rich? When Obama borrowed the 1.2 trilion (stimulus) that we didn't have, it devalued the dollar.
you831able 2 weeks ago
@manretify- So when the evil rich paid the taxes that supplied the 5 trillion that Obama spent in 3 years, somehow in Democrat logic, the republicans created inflation with Obama's spending? Then the poor people that collect welfare and don't have money gave their money to the rich through inflation! That makes perfect sense! Ring Ring Hello! Oh ok! Hey your village just called, they want their imbecile back!
you831able 2 weeks ago
@you831able Obama does the same but not nearly as bad as the GOP 15/10 is 50%, not a doubling or tripling. Besides, Obama also gives handouts to the poor, so he's counteracting some of the wealth distribution.
