Man... In my teens ca. 1975-ish I bullt my whole idea of being in love with a woman around CC and linda ronstadt. Making a woman like her or her happy is what it means to be a man. Now in my 40's at college with people 20 yrs younger than me, they don't understand.
she was the best singer my whole family still love the music the first time i listened to my mums music when i was little i was hooked absolutely amazing my sis loves it aswell.xxxxxx karen carpenter will never be forgotten her music keeps her alive.xx emma.

If someone else had produced Karen rather that the insiped and sugary Richard then we would have seen an even better side of her. Richard totally over produced everything and smothered Karen's natural talents. Plus maybe in different company she would have stood a better chance ! !
If someone else had produced Karen rather that the insiped and sugary Richard then we would have seen an even better side of her. Richard totally over produced everything and smothered Karen's natural talents. Plus maybe in different company she would have stood a better chance !
Back in the day ,with bands out like Led Zep ,Deep Purple ,Black Sabbath,ELP and Yes,few people admitted they liked The Carpenters, yet they were selling more albums than all these other great bands mentioned combined. They had what you might call The Donny Osmond Stigma attached to them.Today we can proudly admit we love them and Karen will probably be the greatest pop singer who will ever live and feel no embarrassment about admitting the truth. Her voice grips your very soul.
Reminds me so much of the 70s when I met my wife. She loved listening to the Carpenters and I learned about their songs and loved them too. Karen had a unique and beautiful singing voice.
Why do i love this music so much? It's performed perfectly! Say what you want about Karen's death, you're talking about the wrong thing. Celebrate the brilliance of the performance and enjoy the music.
@TexasJim1956 Yeah really. We all know about the tragedy.Get over that people. And celebrate Karen and The Carpenters great music forever.Play it a thousand times a year if you want and thank God we have it.
I wish people could find something else to say about Karen Carpenter. She was much more than the reasons for her death. She was much more than anexoria - anorexia is a mental illness, it's not the whole of a person. If anything, this amazing live recording proves that she needs to be remembered as one of the most expressive female vocalists of our times... not as "that girl who starved herself to death". Find something else to talk about !
Karen Carpenter didn't write this song. It was written by a man whose mother used to mutter to herself. She didn't kill herself either. She died of a heart attack caused by rapid weight gain. The "treatment" for her anorexia is no longer used bc it's too stressful for the heart. If that moron Steven Levenkron hadn't treated a disease he knew nothing about, it is likely that Karen would still be alive. She wasn't suicidal.
So chilling... I simply love her effortlessness and purity. So smooth and clean. I love you, Karen. Forever in my heart. May you rest in peace and be singing in heaven. "A Star on Earth, A Star In Heaven"
Richard Carpenter is still dating Leo Sayer after 35 years of being in the closet with their bisexuality. Its a shame those two didnt make a baby and name her Karen the 2nd.
@PeterMacket3inches jugdement day isnt far off fool, you,ll pay for your evil comments, dont believe anything this fool is saying.you need kicked off youtube!!!!!!!!!!
The movie ACTUALLY brought the Carpenters music back into the forefront. It was the NUMBER ONE movie of that week, with over 23 million people watching, a HUGE ratings hit!!! And it told her story, as well as their story...a book followed, several more albums, several box sets, dvds, several tv specials documentaries...etc
@lightzZz10 I couldn't argee more.. Even Richard is ashamed of ever allowing himself to be talked in to making " The Karen Carpenter Story.." to quote him " Everyone is allowed to make mistakes in their life... Allowing myself to be talked in to and being part of the Karen Carpenter Story was one of them.. Had I known how it was going to turn out in the end I would have never allowed its release.. "
i would love to see this womans "full" life story on the big screen, to me it seems as though her legacy is a bit shattered and muddied in mystery for some reason, music industry should do right by her in solidifying all that she possessed and gave to the world via her enormous talent.
Karen Carpenter was a kick ass drummer with a rare extraordinary voice, deep respect for all that this woman carried willingly and un-willingly.
"The Karen Carpenter Story" a made for TV movie starring Cynthia Gibb & Mitchell Anderson as Richard aired in 1989. Don't know if it's out on VHS or DVD though.
It doesn't get any better than this. Karen's performance at this live BBC concert may have been her very best, it left an enormous impression on the Brits (including Lennon and McCartney).
There's never been another singer like her since, and there will never be another like her ever again, unfortunately. I don't think the music world knows what great a loss it was when she died.
Karen Carpenter was the greatest, what a damn shame what happended to her. If anyone in the entertainment industry was UNDERATED, it was truly Karen Carpenter.
@giannaluva65 Yes, her voice does stay within the deep range, and it's not like she can sing the opera or rock with this sort of voice. But I'd say that even so, her voice is underrated. You don't often hear such a velvety, rich voice sung without vocal acrobatics.
@octave7 You're completely right. With that depth of feeling and sheer elegance, she could have continued her career as a lyric mezzo soprano. She certainly had the knack for foreign languages, as she also sang in Spanish, Japanese, Latin, and German. Listen to her version of Ave Maria de Gounod if you haven't already.
@munph70 100% correct, the quality of her voice, the tone and the perfect pitch combined with the honesty she delivers is moving, healing and hauntingly beautiful!!!!!!!
@munph70 I am blessed I came to know karen carpenter and richard, i am now 32, for me she's the best unlike other female singers, they shout when they sing, but karen's voice is charming. when she sings, she sings naturally and never shouts. when i was young i always listened to her songs, that's why I would say "waiting for my favorite songs, when she sings I'd sing along it made me smile. those were such happy times and not so long ago, how I wondered where she'd gone.."
Really, they must be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I can't believe they haven't yet. They out sold so many of their contemporaries, but are just as inspiring today, maybe even more so... I can't get enough of The Carpenters!
Amazing : ) im 24 and have been a huge fan of the Carpenters since i was 11. Karens voice is beautiful its a real shame shes gone,, as im yet to find anyone i like in comparison x
