  • @0:34 I will swear that is a photo of the "old" Hillcrest public school in Hamilton Ontario, on Melvin Avenue close to Talbot St. I used to live right by there , close to Melvin and Woodward. That brings back memories, I remember the thing going off, I was both scared and fascinated. I think you will also find it was not an Allertor but rather a CLM model siren. I only ever really remember seeing CLM's in Canada, except for the odd small villages.

  • LOL I figured there would be an audio clip of the "Canadian Air Raid Siren". I live in Winnipeg. I'm thinking, " Well shit, arent we all gonna be fucked. Our horn isnt even that loud!"

  • It's 106 miles to Chicago. We got a full tank fo gas, hald a pack ciggerettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglesses.

    Hit it!

  • Ive seen some of these in downtown Montreal.

  • i dont hear shit

  • I have sat on the one in the very beginning at the deifenbunker in Ottawa. And that chick in the photo must be a midget because allerators aren't that large

  • omg allertors are HUGE!

  • Is that Fran Drescher @ 0:43 Lol

  • I never realized Allertors were that large! It's strange how small they look atop their poles and buildings, and how big there are when you see them on the ground!

  • Where in either Toronto or Canada is the CLM at 0:23?

  • @stage354 I've seen CLM and the odd Allertor in London, Stratford Ont and Toronto..most were taken down in 1996, I've been trying to find out where all the ones in the crates saw in this video are?? and how much? I'm no electrical guy..so can these sirens be ran off of 110 volt plug or not?

  • @RFKFANTS67 Nope, their 550 Volt 3 phase, good luck finding that

  • that lady must be tiny cuz allertors arent that big

  • omg that is a huge allertor i wanna climb on it X3

  • The only siren I recognized for certain was the Allertor at 0:39. The one at 0:22 MIGHT be a Thunderbolt, but I can't tell for sure. As for all the others, I have no idea. What types are they?

  • the one at 0:22 is a CLM along with the others that look like the one after 0:22.

  • @HardDriveGuru It's actually called a 'Mobil-Directo' siren, not an ACA Allertor. And the picture at 0:22 is not a Thunderbolt.

  • @dockwellian45 I have never been able to tell between a Mobil-Directo and an Allertor. How can one tell? And what's the picture at 0:22?

  • @HardDriveGuru You can tell the difference because ACA Allertors were only installed in the US and Mobil-Directos were in Canada. And, well, this is a Canadian siren video.

  • @dockwellian45 So there are no Allertors in Canada, correct? I've heard of a few Mobil-Directos being in the US, though, so that's another thing that's confusing me.

  • @HardDriveGuru There was at least one Allertor in london ont..back in the 70's, The rest were CLM

  • @RFKFANTS67 Cool!

  • 1:03 ?

    Stehen die beim Müll?

Schweine! Die Dinger aufn Müll stellen, ach gar die abzubauen! ^^

  • gentlemen, how much for one in the crate? I'm 42 saw them all over London and Starford ONT as a kid during the cold war..then they litterly dissapeared overnight around 1996

  • DAMN,THATS ONE BIG ALLERTOR!

  • its like an old allertor siren to me

  • we have one still standing from the cold war era in my city, its never been used but it is in its original position(we live near a Canadian Forces and Brittish Forces base)

  • 0:42 I had no idea the allertor was THAT BIG!!!

  • no it isnt

  • I don't think they're THAT big, i think that photo is a bit of an exaggeration.

  • where is the picture at 1:06 taken?

  • Im not too sure , the pictures were from Ebay a few years back when someone was selling them on ebay

  • Comment removed

  • The holy grail of CLM sirens....

  • that was the siren from blues brothers!!!

  • iv never heard those ever

  • 550 volts?! Holy crap!

  • old allertors?

  • no, CLMs and Mobil directos

  • i think the one at 0:40 is a mobil directo.

  • How does that work?

The Allertor pulls air in through the large front opening.

The air exhausts through the "snorkel" above the siren.

  • yea the Allertor, also known as now as the asalletortoliet

  • appears to be a revers Allertor, intake on top, sound exit bottom

  • That's Hillcrest School. I went to that school. The siren was removed from the school in 1993, and the school istself was torn down in 2006.

  • Do u have a video of one of those going off?

  • Ahhhh, the good ol CMS, the Canadian Mystery Siren, lol there was quite the topic on the ARS board like 2 years ago about this type. From what people tell me, it sounds just like a 2T22.

  • wait is the CMS that mutated allertor?

  • its actually clm not cms

  • is the siren in the beginning some MUTATED ALLERTOR?!?! if someone knows what it is, please tell me!!

  • There is a guy that took the horn section from a CLM siren and installed a loud speaker in it and mounted it on the roof of their car. The car is in Jackson Michigan.

  • I went to the Deifenbunker back in september, but they only had one siren outside then. But I was able to look down the cone and I could see the stator blades. I so wish it could fire up.

  • Great! I was looking to match up my memories from 20yrs ago to the pictures. Now I know. :)

    thanks!

  • GREAT SOUND

  • Allertors look like huge turbochargers from the front.

  • @lt1caprice57l these are clms

  • can we be friends i live in toronto to

  • what are they doing with these sirens and i may a lot of questions again
