when this movie released in UK, it was hit by the yorkshire ripper at the time and condemned, i saw it on video and thought it both stylish and erotic with great set pieces and a loving tribute/rip-off of pyscho.
when screened on itv for the 1st time, a heavily cencored version was shown, no swearing, no nudity, no sex and no murder scene! it was dreadful! i had never seen a movie so cut for tv over so little in all my life! a grwat film of great set pieces with them all totally cut out!!!
Ok, I was wondering for the longest time who the stranger in the museum was and turns out his name is Ken Baker and he is now a realtor in NJ! But it looks like the guy in the shower scene is not the same guy? Anyone know? I know for Angie, they used a body double; a Penthouse model, but is Ken also doing the shower scene. Ken, if you are reading this, I'd like to know. :)
the main influence for depalma on this film was not hitchcock but dario argento.go see a movie called the bird with a crystal plumege, and you will see where depalm got his idea for the elevator seqence
@Cash2112 Just a gorgeous chick from her Rat Pack years(Juila Roberts could never be as sexy in Oceans 11-Angie did it first in the original and better) thru Police Woman and yes In Dressed to Kill, body double or not
i always wondered what if she was able to survive the blonde with Razor(who is actually..spoiler NOT) but had to now tell the police-if they got to question her at all, what exactly was she doing in this Apt Building.. then try to get treated for the STD..while hiding all that from her husband and son-but still there is this blonde person stalking her-I guess Fatal Attraction covered some of that to an extent without the VD-LOL
Back when adult thrillers did not have pander to tweens.
If made now,Jennifer Garner would be Kate Miller ,That Lindsey LoHo would be Liz the call girl ,and that Justin Bieber would be Dr.Elliott-LOL and directed by some guy in music videos-UGHHHHHHHH
@deckard97 LOL!!!! Times were certainly different back then! Believe it or not, my favorite scene is the museum scene......no dialogue. Everything having to be conveyed by the actors through their eyes, gestures, and of course, the music!
@deckard97 My word, HOW TRUE ! No more long, brilliantly-edited ( by Vilmos Zsigmond ) sequences, adding suspense and tension. Each sequence would be chop-edited and made to look like a music video, with that quick-cut-slice method, where every shot appears to be a glyph from a video game. And the film would have to be " scored " ( I use that term merely to classify ) with that inane, RETARDED, general-issue Latin-chorus-demonic-child-OOOH-OOOH-OOOH sound. Dreadful. Lindsey Lohan !! H E L P !!!
@deckard97 Exactly. You hit it on-the-nose. " Dressed To Kill " is a well-crafted, erotic take-off on Hitchcock's
" Psycho ", not a brainless, blatant gore-fest like what passes for horror or suspense today. The sex and violence in DTK are not OBJECTIFIED, as they are subject to the perspective of a each participant. A rape fantasy, a brutal slaying, saving a prostitute, et al. These are DEVICES. This is completely lost on the young moviegoers of today. The bloodletting engages, actually.
great, bizzare, erotic and stylish film..very typical de palma! the opening sequence is huge "turn on" *haha* and the twist didn't surprise me at all! haha..the killer had sent "a hint" miles away before he uncovered "his own other side"
Anyway, i still didn't get the relation between the killer and the STD-infected fucker at the beginning which ended up with angie dickinson's death
I love Nancy Allen in this. She looks awesome and is hilarious. The movie is over-the-top misogynistic, though, to the point of it being laughable. But, it looks great and stylish as all hell. x
@petie71 I loved her in this too,Detested her in "Carrie"-she was excellant though, and really liked her with Travolta(again) in Blow Out-one of those actresses that you wish would act more ,in everything
god what a classic this film is!! its the type of movie when you havent seen it before you cant stop watching from beginning to end, totally edge-of-your-seat stuff!! ;-D the only bit i thought was a bit silly was when nanvy allen picks up the razor blade to stop the lift from jamming and holds onto it even while shes running out of the hotel, talk about making it look like it was you that did the murder!!
One of my all time favorite Films! Angie Dickinson's performance raises this film from what could have been just another slasher flick, to a Thriller Masterpiece!!!
@rickw1100 Imagine THIS classic/gem/rarity being given the "re-make" treatment. In my opinion, as if there ISN'T enough damage done-ALREADY-due to re-makes! Look what happened to Psycho, the Amityville Horror, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Friday The 13th.
@AngelofAnguish -you"re absolutely right- like Psycho, the power of the film lies in the surprises and shocks. Once you know the actual storyline. It can't be remade. All they could do if, and God forbid that they do it - is re-imagine it, the way Tim Burton did with The Planet Of The Apes, essentially changing the details of the original source. God forbid!
@AngelofAnguish my thoughts exactly.........the remakes are an insult to the originals anyway, plus whats the point of redoing a film with exactly the same title and plot anyway?? i suppose to make money but personally i have no interest in themas nothing can outdo the original..........only a matter of time before they remake The Exorcist probably!!! x
It was very controversial when it was first released- due in no small part to Angie Dickinson's incedibly compelling performance. Now 30 years later, people still love the shocks that this film throws out.
the last movie angie made. they tried to do a "this is your life" show with her but when they surpised her with it...she walked off the stage and never came back. great movie and music.
When my parents were busy, as a kid I'd be watching "forbidden" flicks like this. It's not straight up horror, but man, it left quite an impression. DePalma's earlier films were so powerful and dark.
The death in the elevator and the end shower scene with the shoes peaking past the door, combined with the score is by far one of the SCARIEST moments ever created in film. It is incredibly CHILLING due to the fact that they are situations that could easily happen in real life. I can not step into an elevator without that scene popping into my brain.

Angie Dickinson was so perfectly cast in this movie that I cannot imagine anyone else playing that role. She's not just a pretty face in the film, but her face was so ethereal and beautiful and so human at the same time. She displays so much class and emotion and subtlety- it was a remarkable performance. Frankly, after she's gone the movie is hokey and the acting is bad, but the music is really fantastic throughout.
I agree! I've "distanced" or "disassocated" myself (so-to-speak) with today's so-called "horror"-including these horrendous re-makes (of horror classics)! I'll take "old school" horror ANYTIME or ANYDAY!

@FanOfMovies123 That's genuinely funny. Well, ya' know, the way them science folks is mutatin' all our TNT, er, DNA, or Run DMC, or DMV, or whatever. I wouldn't put it past one of them East Coast cross-dressin'

I went to the shop
A plastic barrier blocked the pavement. It was dark. Someone might trip. I moved it.
I walked on. I felt a twinge in my right thigh. I crossed the road because of this. I kept on walking but now I am looking around.
I see it.
247 characters remaining.
It was a men at work triangular sign. On the back it said CALL DERBYSHIRE
code 058058
In the shop I purchased a small bottle of red wine and a bag of crisps. The man served before me bought 2 boxes of Swan matches
