  • I can't hear any strings in this, be it piano, harpsichord or anything else. There are bell sounds, and something that sounds more percussive than a piano, perhaps a glockenspiel or a xylophone? If anyone who heard a harpsichord or piano could point out when, I'd like to hear it, though.

  • Tara Strong was Young Celeste!

  • Who is a composer??

I want soundtrack of the babar.

    Could you tell me ?

  • @mongamae3 It's the credits. It's written right there. Milan Kymlicka. Good luck finding recordings of his music, though, not sure they even exist.

  • @thegoodgeneral

Thanks comment. But regrettably, I could not find it anywhere.

    What a waste!

  • No Babar don't leave, please! Can you just stay for another 23 hours and 30 minutes? : )

  • Masterpiece.

  • It sounds like big, fat, naked Boss eating greasy chicken.

  • @Omochao0 While walking down Fat Path.

  • This is why I love youtube...aahhh the nostalgia....

  • 5 people had an empty childhood

  • I love this theme played in the end credits. It's like a wind quintet but larger and the deep dark beautiful tone from the Bass Clarinet or is it Bassoon is tremendous. Thank you to @ssokolow for posting it.

  • I love Babar! This is my favourite ending credits song

  • This music gives you a "farewell forever without anything" feeling.

  • even though the show was great i think every1 really just wanted to hear the ending theme lol, classic stuff. Just like thomas the tank engine its just a feel good factor that these old cartoons have that todays 1's lack, mainly because cartoons today all try to be anime and fail miserably

  • @ovafiend Anime today suck compared to anime in the 80s and 90s too. It's not about what they're trying to be. It's that modern cartoons, regardless of country of origin, are trying to copycat the success of their predecessors by replicating the surface elements without understanding what made them good and it really shows.

  • @ssokolow yea anime today sucks i miss the good ol days of guyver, legend of the four kings and dominion tank police and all those classics.

  • @ssokolow Depends which anime's your talking about. Many modern animes are brilliant. Cowboy bebop, Samurai Champloo and Monster are all very intelligent and well constructed Not to mention awesome and often socially relevant. I think you refer to the hype of pop anime like Naruto and Bleach cause that shit sucks. And I agree with your point on trying to copycat sucess. People just end up trying too hard. Peace

  • @ATGODZ I haven't gotten around to watching Samurai Champloo yet, so I don't know if it's one of the scattering of decent ones that are always around if you look hard enough, but Bebop and Monster were both written in the '90s. Bebop is from 1998-99 and Monster is a 2004-2005 adaptation of an award-winning 1994-2001 manga. (I've read it. It's probably the most amazing thing I've ever read.)

  • @ATGODZ cowboy bebop and samurai champloo are not modern animes. and btw Monster was written way before it was adapted into anime I believe...

  • @tokee1234567 I'm aware of that....... and that wasnt my point in the first place =P

  • @ovafiend To be honest... they wouldn't be airing those shows if they weren't attracting the demographic they were aiming for. Face it, we grew up with what he had and we have good memories about it. Now we've just grown up.

These cartoons and shows meant for kids (today) aren't meant for you. Kids (today) have different tastes and the TV networks know that and they accommodate it and that's how they make money.

  • That elephant was the cosmic fucking leetybits. I still have my stuffed Babar ^^

  • the flute is playing the main melody right??

omg when i used to watch this as a kid, i would not watch the show but instead flip back to hear the end credits..love it :)

  • After hearing this, I only have one thing to say: I WANT MY CHILDHOOD BACK!

  • This song somehow makes you feel so lonely and thrown away from the hearts of others.

  • Where did my childhood go?

  • "Later tonight, on TALES FROM THE CRYPT...." =)

  • the part in 0:35 is my favorite of the song.

  • 0:36-0:41 sounds very much like orinoco flow by enya

  • These credits gave me éjà vu even when I was 4. I was for some reason convinced I'd seen or been to the picture behind the writing. Must be the music or something.

  • i still watch this on abc kids if im around :> enjoy it so much, so nostalgic.

  • Instrumentation....electric harpsichord, flute, oboe/cor anglais, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet/Bassoon, Piano....and that what i can make out, until the ending appears!

  • Does anyone have the clip where the screen goes red when Babar's parents/pack were hunted? I always remember that scene, it's kind of achieved a mythical legend status in my memory...

  • @cpthurme Look for the first episode "Babar's First Step" on YouTube. That's the episode where the hunter shoots his mother from what I remember.

  • The main instrument is a flute, an oboe kicks in at :22. The bass is a bass clarinet. The musicbox-twinkling sound is a Yamaha DX-7.

  • what was the instrument used for this song???????

  • @AndrewG1109 Music isn't my area of expertise, but I think it's an oboe.

  • @ssokolow does ANYONE knows how to get this &the intro THEME Songs in a file [mp3..etc]?

  • @eladbari I've heard there are sites which, given a YouTube link, will give you an MP3. You could also use your video-downloader of choice and then use a Windows version of the Linux video tool MPlayer to split out the audio.

I'd rather not go into more detail given how paranoid some companies can be about this sort of thing.

  • @ssokolow heyy! :D yes, thank you for your little tip there :] but the quality of an mp3 from youtube is pretty bad. i thought it was worth checking if there is an Actual name for the track and see if its available online [for purchasing is good as well :] but i guess i wont find it. ya..and those companies are out to getchya! muhahah.. :D

  • @eladbari video 2mp3.net is always a good one

  • @zoncoe thank u, zoncoe :] ill check it out. i just thought of a higher quality version, but its ok, i guess :]

  • @eladbari or you could also try Television Tunes.com and see if they have it

  • @thenewdannyjshow Thank you for mentioning that site, danny :]

the track is actually there, but all of the songs there are just rips from youtube.. nothing in high quality :'(

but thanx for the site again :D

gonna find me some A-Team :P

  • @eladbari Try zamzar dot com.

  • @eladbari Try zamzar.com

  • @ssokolow It is an oboe

  • @ssokolow it's a flute (:

  • what is it called, as i play flute and i want to learn it!

  • @ssokolow It's a flute playing the main melody, but yeh there's an oboe in there too.

  • @AndrewG1109

TH main instrument played is the flute.

  • @AndrewG1109

B Bass Clarinet and C Flute

  • @AndrewG1109 There is an oboe, bassoon, clarinet, and flute (and a synth harpsichord). Typical wind chamber ensemble.

  • @AndrewG1109

Sounds like a bass clarinet together with a timpani and a doublebass doing the bass line. A flute doing the melody, an oboe making the counter-melody. Also I THINK it's some sort of harpsichord stuff going on in the background.

  • @AndrewG1109 Clarinet

  • @AndrewG1109 The main instrument's a flute, and the harmony's an oboe. I think there are also bassoons and bass clarinets on the bass line, and a clarinet's hiding in there somewhere too :)

  • @malfidus10 yes your correct! i think

  • @AndrewG1109 - I hear an oboe, bassoon, and flute.

  • @AndrewG1109 There's at least three instruments but they seem to have added an organ (probably a synth though with organ sounds) as well, never heard it before (the organ). Anyway, I can make out a flute, an oboe, and maybe a tenor saxophone/bassoon/tuba (don't know which one)

  • @AndrewG1109

Bass clarinet, flute, oboe, harpsichord etc.

  • @AndrewG1109 think its an Oboe

  • @AndrewG1109 it was a flute and piano

  • @AndrewG1109 Oboe flute and a harpsichord. Theres even a little bit of sax in there and clarinet. it's an incredibly well constructed piece actually. Think this is what made me love music as a kid. I used to whistle this theme all the time. Still do sometimes.

  • whenever i hear this song it instantly makes me happy and i always feel the urge to whistle along

  • babar, tintin, rupert the bear... nelvana put such a lot of artistry and skill into these cartoons. it made the cartoons completely believable and in the vein of their original book sources.

i'm glad i was a child growing up in the generation of these cartoons.

  • As times change, people change, and kids programming of the 80's and early 90's (my generation of kids programming) is not going to be the same as it is today. It's hard to objectively and rationally say that kids programming is "worse" or "better" than it was when I was a kid due to the strong sentiment I carry with it. The children of today will carry a strong sentiment of the shows they watch too. It would make for a very interesting essay topic!

  • @jazzmatik One could also argue that the average quality of shows (measured by various metrics) has been going down and that it's a common pattern found in any medium where a businessman rather than an artist does most of the decision-making. Whenever there's a new medium or revival, quality only lasts until formulae are [re]discovered.

Ask any anime/manga fan who cares about more than fancy visuals and you'll find that anime made between 1985 and 2004 is generally better than 2005+ stuff.

  • @ssokolow PART I

I agree completely. Kids programming of the 80's and early 90's focused more on good values and morality whilst being extremely entertaining. The characters and animation had much more heart and soul and they'll live with me forever, but won't the kids of today's generation say the same thing about their shows? To me, kids programming of my generation was the best, but I'm concerned if I'm being rational saying it, since each generation will likely say that about their own.

  • @jazzmatik PART 1

I'd say it'd depend on how well the series balances what I refer to as subjective and objective quality.

Objective quality lies in things like character quality while subjective lies in things like character type. (You can have the deepest character in the world, but if the author is depending on you seeing them as a contemporary and they're from an era with very a different culture, it's not going to work)

For 80s cartoons, it's usually a question of "how much 80s culture?"

  • @jazzmatik PART 2

Not all cartoons age well, but whether or not they do, a lot of them do better objectively than their modern counterparts. For example, Babar's music, Animaniacs (whole-family humor and edutainment), Freakazoid (genre parody), Beetlejuice (clever use of grossness), and Inspector Gadget (Clouseau-inspired comedy).

Nostalgia aside, cartoons from the 80s and early 90s tended to do better on elements that let adults re-watch and still enjoy... even Beastly from the Care Bears.

  • @ssokolow PART II

What do you think would happen if kids of today were shown the same shows we watched? Would they love them just as much or dismiss them entirely? I'm in my mid-20's and often think about what to do about this when I have kids, as I'd love for them to watch the shows that influenced me like Rescue Rangers, Ducktales, Rupert Bear, Under the Umbrella Tree, etc.

  • @jazzmatik PART 4

Overall, It depends on which kids are watching which shows. As a little kid, I liked stuff like Little Lulu from the $2 tape bin.

The Disney cartoons from the 80s are an interesting case. I loved them as a little boy and I bet many kids today would love them, but their comparatively good visuals and characterization are ruined for me as a 24-year-old by the Disney tendency to tie their female characterization and related plot to social paradigms often already on the way out.

  • @ssokolow Oops. That should be PART 3.

  • @ssokolow You rock. I'm 25, so we're both coming from the same generation, and I can relate to everything you're saying. For example, Beastly from the Care Bears is hilarious! He adds such comic relief even though his intentions are essentially evil. Have you ever seen The Secret of NIMH? That was my favourite childhood movie/novel. In regards to what you were saying before, that is one story I think is timeless. Sometimes the most simple stories can be the most magical in the animated world.

  • @jazzmatik PART 1

I've never read the book, but the Secret of NIMH movie was one I enjoyed in my youth. However, it does have significant plot flaws which limit its lifetime (eg. the deus ex machina with the unexplained magic amulet in an otherwise contemporary world) and, though it's not as pronounced as many of Don Bluth's works, there is a touch of presupposition of a conservative middle-america audience in the presentation. (Not the setting, more the tone of the story and characterization)

  • @jazzmatik PART 2

I'm not sure about the tone, but as I understand it, the inconsistencies were introduced during the book-to-movie conversion, so my guess is that any lack of timelessness on the book's part would be more due to how difficult it is for a book to become timeless, given the increased competition, the inability to "run across it on TV", the nature of back catalogs, and so on.

I'd like to discuss Bluth's works further, but could we do it via a medium without a character limit?

  • @ssokolow PART I

It's true that there are a few plot inconsistencies, but they never really crossed my mind as a child. One may argue that leaving out the origins of certain things like the amulet leaves more to the child's imagination. As usual, the book is better than the movie, in my opinion. I'm glad that this particular adaptation wasn't done by Disney. That's not to say that I don't like Disney, but it just would have been a different film.

  • @ssokolow PART II

Haha, that is a classic Beastly quote!

  • @jazzmatik As for Beastly, one of the big reasons he is so funny is that he's essentially a mapping of an ordinary playground archetype (the over-eager in-crowd toady) to the world of villainy. (An evil-wannabe who, half the time, ends up messing things up by trying too hard. For example, trying to correct Shrieky on the semantic meanings of "good" and "bad" for villains)

Of course, my favorite Beastly quote is probably "Oh well. Time to face the music... but oh, how I HATE music!"

  • @jazzmatik ...sir, you are very sad.

  • I miss Babar :( Such a great show.

  • Adoro esta musica

  • im a 16yr old and find these cartoons fun and full of values.i have no shame in saing this.

  • There was such a diversity in characters, in terms of personality etc

I really wish they still aired it in my region, so my children could have something nice to watch like this, I mean, they like the shows available to them, but they're nothing like the quality of this. I can still sit down and watch Babar, unlike other more current children's' shows.

  • i remember this! good old days...:(

kids TV shows today should have some good quality music in them too, some real effort put in them! back then TV shows were just so good and innocent.

  • somebody should have used this in a gangster-ass sample or somethin

  • our generation had the BEST cartoons, guys, abc afternoons after school! oohhh :( we're lucky we got all the good stuff, and all the walt disney classics. the newer generation has shitty shows

  • I agree, when I was growing up I didn't have cable and Babar was one of the shows that I could watch and I would love waking up in the morning and watching it before I went to school.

  • @mauritianbeauty22222 I agree. When I was little I didn't have cable and Babar was one of the few shows I could watch. I remember looking forward to waking up early in the morning to watch it before I went to school. It came after Digimon(first season). This with the intro I just watched is almost enough to make me cry.

  • @mauritianbeauty22222 I agree. When I was little I didn't have cable and Babar was one of the few shows I could watch. I would look forward with my brothers to getting up early to watch Babar before going to school. It came on right after Digimon(first season) which is another show that makes me feel nostalgic. This video and the intro was almost enough to bring me to tears.

  • They don't make cartoons like this anymore :( It's all 3D crap now - all show, no story, no warmth.

  • I want to be a kid again

  • wow, i feel all weird in side. Nostalgia.

I Miss being a kid. Can't believe they are still playing it.

I love the classical music too.

    OOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • this oozes with originality, makes me sad coz there's none left out there

  • Who didn't listen to this at the end of an ep? Honestly, if this was on the tv screen at all when I was flipping channels I'd have to stop_^)

  • This sure gives me goosebumps. I luckily stumbled upon this, because I thought this was from Little Bear or something.

An amazing piece of music. Does anyone know what it's called?

  • I love this song! I would like to get some sheet music for my dad!

  • i love this song, so classic, best memories of my childhood and my mum :) love

  • I love this show good memories.

  • i once had a video of barbar for my 5th birthday, the memories

  • this is AMAZING. I listen to this song each time the cartoon ends and my kids call me, daddy daddy your favourite song! thanks for posting!

  • Does anyone know the name of this song? I know it is by Milan Kymlicka..haven't found the name.

  • Christ! This is ancient! And memorable! Thanks for posting this!

  • most awesome credits music!!!!!!! jesus i havent heard this in 20 years!!!!

  • epic win this is.

  • old skool =P

  • Why does no one watch good shows like this anymore? Or like Johnson & Friends! Now everyone watches crap like Finley the Fire Engine :(

  • wat happen to shows wit values...now kids watch shit like kim possable O.o

  • Bad thing to badmouth. Kim Possible is one of the few modern shows I actually find decent. (The characterization is much better than usual) Have you ever actually watched it?

  • yes i have,i find the concept of the show sorta lame,i mean its all about fightin..dude i babysit kids who later get into fights after watchin it O,o

  • I see where you're coming from now... but what kids take away from a show depends on them. It's attempts to prevent that which are partially responsible for watering down cartoons today.

Kim Possible may be an action-focused cartoon, but I stand by my point that the characters are uncommonly good... of course, it IS a Disney creation and that's Disney's core strength. (The main reason they're so good at recycling old plots into feature films is their talent for writing good characters.)

  • That's not to say that putting safety bumpers on a show precludes worthwhile characterization. I still find Beastly from the 1980s-era Care Bears funny.

  • NOSTALGIA! I love this.

  • epic....

  • MeFrom07 - couldn't have said it better myself.

THIS IS A REAL KIDS SHOW.

  • For the first time in about 10 years, Babar is finally being aired in Australia again. I watched a 1989 episode of "Monkey Business" on ABC2 this morning. Great to see it on TV again and show the kids of today what a real kids show is.

  • I was incredibly happy to catch an episode of it on TV. This show has some sort of incredible soothing power over me.

  • I was SO happy to see Babar back on ABC2 again! I purposely sat and watched the ending theme :) Ahh, I love it!

  • at 0:31 , there is someone named bob smith in the credits :D

  • Delightful!

  • i love this credit music! very cute :D

  • Babar was a in a class of it's own. I cannot recall any other kids show I grew up with that had such a good classical soundtrack and such a powerful storyline like this show did.

  • I used to watch this when i go home for lunch when i was in grade 2 oe 3 in canada.

  • I love the music as well as the cartoons it is so rich and warm I will share this cartoon with my children when I have some one day

  • Love this music, if only cartoons nowadays were still as good as this and those in the old times.

  • I completely agree :( The kids tv shows of today.. oh boy, an adult just can't watch them. 10 years ago childrens tv programs had many layers, parents could watch them with theyre kids without being utterly bored, but nowadays.. cartoons have a bit of a feeling that theyre either made for kids the age of 1-3, or for complete idiots. "What colour is the house?!! Oh yes indeed, the house is red!!!1" No wai?

I'm 17 and I still enjoy watching the _old_ cartooons, sad theres not much of'em on tv.

  • I could not agree more! Kids these days are being dumbed down by stupid shows like that. My little sister is learning SO much more from the old Hi5 videos! I love Babar, classic Fireman Sam, BANANAS IN PAJAMAS (before it went all gay) and I especially love Johnson and Friends!!

  • Johnson and friends, omg I didn't even remember that show, before I searched that in youtube now, huge nostalgia flash back lmao.

  • lol!

  • I love the credit song... <3<3<3 Thank you

  • Yeah, this cartoon needs to be release on a full dvd collection set, mate, we need a petition going over here, us/uk.

  • the next generation will love this..........oh dud what a memories. I used to watch Babar in HBO when I was like 6 till 10 years old I guess....I miss those days.

Thank you so much for posting this vid!!!!!!!!

  • Memories =D thanks

  • lol

I just figured out that the conductor of this song is the same conductor for the ending of rupert (Milan kymlicka)!

    Yay!!!!!!!!

I love this song sooooooooooo much!

  • no way, hey made the song for Rupert too.

  • Yea, alot of the old childrens cartoons made in Canada back then were composed by him. I wonder if the intro music of 'The busy world of richard scarry' was also composed by him...

But either way, cartoons back then were made with CLASS. This is the sort of thing cartoons should be, and the music breaks all record of any other cartoon music these days. Things back in the 90s were something really diffrent, way better that what it has come down to. Too bad my childhood is over...

  • He also died a few months ago. Sad, really. His music was beautiful.

  • aw,

    what a shame,

he was a very good musician indeed!

    =(

  • who did the music?????

  • @hooty158 I know MILAN KYMLICKA makes this song, but i still don't know how to download this!

  • Damn I couldn't find this anywhere on youtube, thanks so much! I love this music, really elephant-like with all the tooters.

  • this is pretty!

  • Ha very neat music! So pleasant!

  • hhaahahahah this is the best song

  • Fuck, I've been humming this at work, for a while I didn't know what it was but I figured it out.

  • ahh sweet memories..

  • Thank you very much!!
