Gents.. take Marillion for what it is. The band, regardless of the era has produced some of the finest music mankind has ever heard. I hope they take their time on future projects, not rush, and produce the best they have ever done. They have done it all and they have a monumental task in topping what they've already accomplished. Carry on... :)
You can't compare the two Marillion singers; Steve "H" has been their singer for 20 years and counting...Fish although he started it, was only 4 years with them - no comparison in time and contributions by any means.
H's Metal voice? what?! Meh .. Don't get me wrong, Fish is a great singer, but come on. He didn't make Marillion. What makes Marillion are the band members. I've listened to some Fish stuff, post-marillion; and frankly, it's just okay. I much prefer the guitar work of rothery, the awesome keyboard playing by Mark, the impressive drumming of Ian, and let's not forget quite possibly the greatest bass player of all-time Pete Trewavas. I'm sorry, but that's what really makes Marillion great.
Come on, Marillion with fish was good but very digestible, but with H they are AWESOME, is music in another level (and he sings a lot lot lot better than fish).
Both Fish and H are fantastic and Marillion are still by far the greatest rock band.

It's songs like this that make me favour Hogarth over Fish. But I still really love both eras.
