The sad thing while watching these matches is that it's proof that Seles is better.  She looks like a whale and is late on every shot, and still almost won. She also had a destroyed career. This is not the Monica that would have continued a normal career and normal tennis life. Add 30 pounds on Hingis and take off 30 pounds from Seles, and Seles would destroy her :(

Definitely agree, great match, it was close and Monica did play great in parts and fought hard, Hingis also on top form and Monica seemed to have trouble anticipating her shots, but the major difference was fitness & monicas movement was like my dads at times, not that of an athlete

Monica was playing almost at pre stabbing level with her mental strength and laser shots...Hingis played so well to win this...Monica ( yes I am a big fan) just lost some depth in her shots and ran out of gas mid way through the 3 Rd but man she fought... 4 finals great record here... Really sad that they sent this tournament to Nazi Germany the next year even though Monica protested the move....The WTA really messed up with Monica ( not the first time) but like a champ she went to Asia and won

watching all these close Monica losses, if she was 25 pounds lighter she would have won them... She seemed so slow and clumsy in her movement throughout the match and still pushed the new breed to the limits, so imagine if she didn't have all the setbacks and the food problems because of depression. Congrats to Hingis on squeezing past by a FAT Seles, the woman who was destined to be GOAT until the stabbing changed her as a person and most importantly athlete.

I have to agree with this. I love Hingis, she is clever and a cunning tactician, but had Seles been in shape, the difference in the score would be dramatic.

But you can't change history, and a fat Seles did play beautifully. Hingis was flawless.
