  • As alway. Stevie bring happiness to every one around him.

  • search baldy and burke they have great music, give this a thumbs up so they get the recognition they deserve!

  • they cut out the best part. The whole guitar solo:(

  • so good .....down to the groung

  • of course IS NOT Billy Sheehan!!!

  • my respect for billy sheehan just increased just because he played with Stevie!! :D

  • One of my favorite SRV songs. It says so much, and is so true!

  • this was also the last time i saw Stevie preform before he was killed, still missin the guy big time.

  • this was february 1990, i taped the show.

  • FUCKING AWESOME

  • I loved how stevie ended the song with that spin. This has gotta be one of his most hard rocking songs.

  • LOVE YOU SRV SO MISSED ANGEL ♥

  • Dave didn't want to let go of his hand.

  • i love how Stevie's energy is spilling off on the tonight show's band!!! your can visually see it happing at the end of the song!! SRV for life

  • i have this on video tape, it was feb 1990. glad to see it posted.

  • Most Rockin I have ever seen Paul Schaffer's Band. I liked that band better when it was just the 4 of them. SRV...what more can be said. He makes a good band sound incredible!

  • SRV probably broke Letterman's hand with that handshake

  • had this album. thief can burn in hell and never get to meet srv in heaven!

  • fucking yellow guitar faggot wouldnt turn down! "hey look, I'm just as good as the guy in the hat is!!!"

  • I've never heard this song before Good stuff. Glad to see no one has disliked this video yet. Our society needs to forget non-talented pop crap and award more talent like SRV. and we would have more people into musical instruments and real music other than computer generated garbage.

  • First time I 've ever heard Stevie being out-volumed. LOL

  • what has happened to popular music these days

  • that rhythm guitarist loves it!

  • this just hits you. CAN YOU IMAGINE IF THERE WERE A SURROUND SOUND??? BLOWS!!!

  • Really a legend!!! who don't think so???

  • Comment removed

  • superb....

  • IT MOVES YOU SO DEEP TO SEE LETTERMAN HOLDING A LP OF STEVIE. TEARS IN MY EYES

  • the wall of denial is going down today:)

  • wow....i wish i was letterman in the last part...

  • The fuck happened to the first solo?

  • @SocialAutism They only have a certain amount of time to play! Can't play the whole song!!!

  • pause at 1:21 lol

  • Wow! 'The World's Most Dangerous Band' backing up Stevie Ray Vaughan. What a groove.. It really doesn't get any better than this.

    Thanks for posting.

  • holt shit its letterman!!! lol

  • Thia is really good.

  • @Belle19700

a lot better with DT . nobody plays bass like Tommy Shannon !

  • Hi all come to visit my page if you want to see some new SRV 's covers ^^

  • The second guitar and the bass are wayyy too loud drowning The Man out. Glad this only happened once. But even with the distraction it is no problem seeing and hearing where the REAL talent is.

  • @1966spartan1 maybe its just the youtube clip

  • The bassists name is Will Lee

  • Love it when he shakes his fist at that wall of denial at 3:22.....SRV....the best!!!

  • Never seen this before. In fact never seen him perform this tune live on any film.

If that's Billy Sheehan on bass then does anyone think it looks a bit like a young Paul Gilbert on rhythm guitar? I'm not sure as it's hard to tell from the quality of the video.

    Any idea?

  • Absolute MASTERFUL performance by Stevie, JUST AWESOME. It is very hard to have ANY sort of musical chemistry with people you have neber performed before, and while i'm sure they had a couple of run throughs of the song before the actual videotaped performance, i still think it's awesome how stevie sounded so confident and just poured it all out there like this was his own ban or something, just shows how he would hav sounded great with ANYBODY! Baddest guy with a Strat and a hat!!!

  • @mindaflame7 Fuck ya Baddest guy with a Strat and a hat!!! I'll agree with that!!!

  • 21 years ago.. :( buhuuu

Almost makes me cry thinking of those good good times...

  • this is great! i had NO IDEA he was Letterman!!

  • ya Stevie hated this take with all the gay guys vying for a job, he said he felt so embarassed

  • why would he do that, it an incredible take, they all play their ass off.

  • @grovzy1 maybe if you provide a source that comment will have some merit

  • the second guitar ruins it

  • I don't see anything wrong with the video.

  • man the house band is having the time of their lives! LOL look at them when the SSolo kicks in... they look like theyre trying to catch a rebound.....

  • Check out the video of the house band with Michael Martin Murphy on Carolina in the Pines. They are having almost as much fun as they seem to be having here.

Must be the best gig in show business.

  • luckiest house band ever.. they jammed with everybody

  • i wouldnt have let gove of stevie s hand if i were to shake it today i would be like let some of ur magic rub off on me haha. did anyone else think tht stevies solo wasnt very loud it was kinda hard to hear over everybody else i thought

  • It wasn't magic that shot SRV to the top. It was hard work, those meat hooks extending from his forearms, and David Bowie. Now, the fact that SRV impressed David Bowie at the 82' Montreax Jazz Festival, (which, in turn, set the course for getting SRV the attention he deserved), was either lucky or the call of destiny. agic was involved

  • (Accidently clicked "Post Comment")

Anyways, where was I? Oh yeah, magic wasn't involved.

Oh, and I guess you could also say that the creative perfectionist that SRV was, and the unspoken competition between him and his brother Jimmie, contributed to his success.

  • Don't forget about Jackson Browne who offered SRV&DoubleTrouble the use of his private state of the art studio. Or else he probably would have when on tour with Bowie. I still can't believe that Stevie Ray was the guitarist on the "Let's Dance" album. So without Jackson Browne who knows what would have happened.

  • yeah the level on his lead was the worst I've ever heard. Probably just NBC studio cheesing on the mics- they don't know how to do audio or they always took it for total granted. I'd like to kick the audio people and especially the people who cheesed this in the ass with a pair of Texas boots.

  • Letterman needs to work on his damned introductions.... "and the album errrrrr.... over here!!" Then again SRV needs no introduction. R.I.P <3

  • Sid, Paul, Anton, and Will have the dream gig. to get to play with all the artists that they have played with over the last 30 years is just insane. also play at the rock and roll hall of fame every year is not to shabby also.

  • hehe i also think the same thing every time i waths letterman! xD

  • Not sure if that is Sid. I think its another guy who looks like Sid McGuiness.

  • double trouble is so much better than those support guys, cuz double trouble sounds perfect with stevie.. and these letterman people that replaced 'em here sound too rough.. the bass hurts your ears and the drums are just too weak.

  • I wake up with this song every day!!!!!

  • SRV is awesome and David Letterman is a worthless piece of dog shit.

  • Hey man give Dave some credit for getting him on his show. He's not worthless- the guy has had some of the best talents ever perform on his show. I give him a lot of credit for that ! If it wasnt for letterman this piece would not exist. But I would have to say whomever mixed the audio and most of the audio techs responsible for this crap guitar levels are close to worthless !!!

  • Thanx for posting this gem of a video SRVIL.

  • Stevie played insane fast, but not metal fast... BLUES FAST!!!! he is playing fast but you can hear the blues all the way :D:D

  • Thus the makings of what a Guitar God is all about. It sure isn't all about speed. It's about heart, emotion, skill, dedication, soul, sense of melody, etc, etc.

  • @funtwo1963 he is techically speaking the best blues guitar player. he could play fast but he played when it was needed. he was not just shreding to show off

  • @funtwo1963 he could play "metal fast" but he didn`t need to :D

  • @funtwo1963 He does even play Metal fast... he just does it with... whats that thing called? OH YEA... Soul.

  • 3:27

  • 3:27 forward . . .smokes 'em

  • where did this come from...i mean where do yall get this stuff, im asking cause id like to hear a cleaner version...guess I could archive the network......im an old man but I always wondered how people get these???....?

  • Oh! the goose bumps!!!

  • is this the only video of wall of denial?? too bad they made him turn down and shorten the song, even though it's still amazing.

  • wonderfull!!!!!

  • Fabulous jaming on this song.Everybody is happy in the band and having a ball.

    Come back Steve!!!

  • In 3.43 you can see how every musician is really into the song!! They're dancing!

    I love SRV

  • I think SRV brought the best out in people!

  • Same here lburntitus

I cant go a day without listening to him

No one these days plays like he used to

  • A GEM.....KEEP THEM COMING......

  • haha look at the fucking band they are all fucking jaming....and feeling the music.....

this is crazy....you dont see music like this....anymore......

  • I love this vid becasuse he is playing guitar Number 1. Fantastic. AND, it was during a time when letterman was still funny and relevant, not a bitter liberal ass hat.

  • shit never gets old

  • Not a single day goes by I don't listen to SRV.

  • @Clearly69 YOU MOTHERF#/?R HAHAH. STOLE IN MY BRAIN AND SOUL..

    SU TRUE BRO....

  • stevie was on letterman!?!?!, haha makes me feel so young never knew

  • Stevie is awwsssommee i hear a tube screamer in that solo

  • That would be an octavia you hear.

  • its both

  • Yeah but the octavia is the more prominient sound...and of course you're going to hear a tube screamer...it's stevie he always using it..haha.

  • Actually I didnt realize the solo was at the end, sorry! I take back my last comment back!

  • He must have had to change the song around because the solo does come earlier in the song, and there's one at the end. Stevie shortened up the first one and just made the last one even better!

  • You skipped the fricking solo!

  • hero of the guitar!!

  • Man you can see how excited that band was to play with him and he just fed off of it to give another great performance. 3:28 is classic SRV

  • I love the Octavio in the last solo!!!

  • Stevie was a WITCH, and this song along with Riviera Paradise are the proof! That Stratocaster was plugged straight into Stevie's soul and the pure joy and raw emotion in his playing is what truly separated him from the rest. RIP Stevie, we miss ya man.

  • weyome!

  • no, Stevie was a Christian...i guess u were only joking about that though...peace

  • Yeah Stevie was a born again once he left rehab...here's a quote from his personal diary, "God I pray that I be cleansed in the blood of Jesus Christ. Born again. I pray that I may be of use to you as you see fit. Amen." He was an incredible musician but it's sad that many people overlook this...

  • i agree

  • god and jesus have nothing to do with cleaning up. what does have to do with it is realizing whats going on and understanding the consequences if you dont. Stevie, no matter what he was after he cleaned up, came to realize that he was going to lose everything and let alot of people down if he didnt take care of himself. theres no shame in spreading love and taking care of yourself just for the sake of doing it. theres no reason to do it just to make amends with god.

  • Agreed, god should in all logic have nothing to do with his recovery. However, when a person battles demons whether past present or future, he or she may look to any positive influence. Whether this be god or a friend, there is no wrong or right template for self healing. These words come from an atheist. Not saying religions only positive, but merely that it is ok for people to use it as a source of hope and understanding.

  • yea..i agree..i THINK in stevies case that his music, friends, and family were MORE of a positive influence than god. but i obviously dont know that for sure. what i DO know is that after he cleaned up his playing was phenomenal, and that he talked about spreading love and being there for the people that need you (brothers, friends, family, fans etc)..and thats the important part. he wasn't a crusader..but he seemed like quite a person, and one that i wish i had been able to meet and talk to

  • I didn't say rehab and christian theology go hand and hand. My point was that it's a little known fact about his life. However, if you do happen to come along his diary which he wrote while in rehab, you'll find Christ was one of the main reason's why his recovery was so successful in the first place.

  • God rocks.

  • For all of those who say Stevie's style and material was not original, I say watch this vid & go F*** yourselves!

  • people don't say He was not original, people say that He was the ultimate mix of the best blues singers/guitarists, that's way different

  • absolutely love this song. could listen to it all day, every day. just love his music

  • what year is this??

  • Either 89' or '90.

  • June of 90, before he went on Leno's show and got the cursive style SRV letters

  • Best version of this tune on YouTube, my opinion.

  • Being sober Stevie's playing is smokin' n fierce with more authority.

Thanks Stevie for giving us your blues n courage to move on.

    Awesome video.

  • I'd shit myself if I had to play rhythm guit for SRV!

  • LEGENDARY

  • Awesome. Back when Letterman was cool, now's he's just for old people.

  • Love that octafuzz at the end. Not only one of the greatest guitar players, but also one of the greatest blues SINGERS ever. Let's not forget his immense talent in both areas of music.

    SRV Forever.

  • man we lost something when he died.

  • Man this song is awesome and Stevie laid down an amazing performance like always. Thanks for this upload, I've been looking for this one for quite some time. But is it more or did it look like Stevie have to shorten up his song? Because the solo sounded really short. He probably did because they didn't have much time for Stevie to lay down one of his amazing long solos

  • Yes, the solo from the middle of the song has been shortened to just a couple of nasty licks, yet tasty! I like how they integrated the second guitar, and how it worked out. Great version! Stevie is fantastic as always.

  • Yeah it made it really unique. A Strat and a Telecaster, a nice one two punch!

  • They're both playing Strats.

  • Yeah your right. I was looking at the wrong thing on the yellow Strat when I typed my last message that made it look like a Telecaster.

Either way this video leaves me wanting A LOT more! Stevie licks at the end are out of this world considering he probably couldn't use the typical setup he was used to using

  • The question my dear boy is not how hell is playing with "hem" rather why is he playing with hell. Huh? Makes a little more sense does it not

  • Great video,But how the hell is playing with hem?

  • Well lets see...you got paul schafer in the background...the principles of detection tell me he's playing with members of the late shows band...

  • Hey hey hey there sonnyjim tone it down a notch and take it easy on the guy.....he can't even sellp ha ha ha

  • I don't like the cut of your jib fella

  • had to put down my guitar and watch every second. That Voice, the Strat, the man and his soul. Had to choke back the tears.

  • no he IS fabulous!!!!

  • He was FABULOUS, FABULOUS, FABULOUS!!!

  • your right

  • we know its just that we are bigger fans of srv than Sid McGinnis

  • wow look at him flex that guitar It has the most bass with treble I have ever seen come from a strat I meen just check out beginig!!! wow

  • Come on, guys. This is the great Stevie Ray Vaughan on David Letterman, when Letterman was still on NBC in 1990. It's Will Lee on bass, Sid McGinnis on rhythm guitar and Paul Shaffer on keyboard. Not Double Trouble, but certainly good enough to support the fabulous guitarist for the evening.

  • Yeah man. I'm sure they rehearsed, but Will Lee really stepped up and played in the pocket with some tasteful improvisation. Great song and great version.

  • "one of our favourites, one of your favourites" buddy you aint kiddin i, my personal fav guitarist eva and lord knows he is missed

  • This just goes to show stevie was awsome at what he did Man stevie I miss you so much check out my channel favs if you feel the same way

  • Nice........ fucking nice~

  • is Will Lee on bass!!!the bass player of Paul Shaffer orchestra in David Letterman show!sorry for my english...

  • Fuck, very strong, power band.

  • The best blues man of all time, second to none

  • Bold words. I can't say i disagree though. He is brilliant.

  • Bold words. I can't say i disagree though. He is brilliant.

  • Nice a big LP :)

  • Man I miss Stevie. R.I.P. my brutha...

  • R.I.P. Stevie.

  • it's gary willis the bass player

  • Thanks for this.
