This still brings tears to my eyes. I wasnt fortunate enough to meet him, but I, to this day, mourn his passing. You are w Jesus brother. How lucky you are. And how very lonely we feel at your departure. You blessed my heart so many times! Will you put in a good word for me, and specially for my son? Love you brother.
Jon Rivers shared a story in a special edition of 20 the Countdown Magazine that I think shows the true heart of the man. ". . .at that gigantic dinner we used to have after the Dove Awards. They had every unimaginable food and everyone was dressed to the nines and Rich Mullins was there and he felt so uncomfortable in that rich setting so to speak. I'm going along the dessert line and I see. . . "
Rich was one of the wisest people I have met. His music speaks from the heart and his messages are some of the simplest, but yet most profound. I wish he was still around as I would have loved to hear more of his messages.
". . . I think, a guy who is Rich Mullins, who has relieved one of the servers and has now donned their white jacket and their little white chefs hat or whatever it was and is serving desserts to all these people after the Dove awards. I think most of them didn't even know it was him. But that was Rich Mullins. He'd rather be behind the counter serving than out with the folks in their fancy duds. Rich Mullins was the real thing. Rich Mullins loved Jesus. . . "
Rich was one of the first Christian Singer's I listened to, and i loved his music. i loved the way he lived his life. When I found out that he died in a horrible car crash, I was so sad, but God must have wanted him. I still listen to his songs He still inspires me, to be what I should be.
He made an enormous impression on my life almost 30 years ago. I purchased "Behold the Man" by his group, Zion. So sad to know he is gone. He was a blessing to all who heard him. Thanks for the post.
Rich, we love you! Thank you Jesus for this man who emulated your humility, love, and glory. God bless Rich and all our beloved who have passed away! Let's keep praying for them and all on earth!
The other day I was thinking of one of Rich's songs, and decided to search for it here. His music touched my heart, but I didn't know about his life and message. After I watched the "Homeless Man..." documentary, I knew I had to find out more. I watched the concert, and especially loved part 5 where he says we shouldn't try to prove our beliefs from the scriptures, but should be humbled by them. He said that only God has it figured out, and the rest of us are just guessing. (paraphrased)
i havent always believed in god. in fact i refused to hear anything that had to do with him and religion in general for a long time. i have to say that listening to rich mullins helped me see the world in a new light. the passion that this man sang with opened my eyes!! im not saying that im a perfect man. im saying that i am a believer... thx rich!
@absentfromtheground Praise God , your testimony touched and blessed my heart so much!! thxs so much for sharing, None of us are perfect, if you collect Rich's work, you will find him telling many stories and he would be the first to say, "I AM NOT PERFECT"
He certainly is a Christian to look up to and be inspired by in so many ways ,I can't imagine my spiritual growth without him. Good to know we have a big brother in heaven like him!
R.I.P. Rich Mullins. Even if Rich Mullins had survived it would have taken him a long time to get better. He would have been put on Life Support and his family would have eventually had to decide whether or not to take him off of Life Support.
....and heaven in his voice. His music to this day makes the impact it did when I first heard it. Thanks Rich, for the lives you touched through your God given talent and your personal life choices. You are an inspiration.
Awesome video, I just finished reading the book based on his life "An Arrow Pointing to Heaven" and it was INCREDIBLE...I so wish I could have met Rich. What an amazing person and what an amazing talent he was
this song is my favorite...i cant listen and not cry. I'm so glad i was blessed to see him live in concert in '97 just before he went to be with Jesus....he was the most talented man especially with the hammer dulcimer! Miss you! See you on the other side:)
rich mullins you will forever be one of my all time favorite christian artists you gave me strength with your music and inspiration in life as a poet, you will be missed R.I.P. with Chrsit
Rich is a great role model. It is hard for so many of us including myself to see the big picture and this man lived right in the middle of it. He lived his life for God and his kingdom. There is so much I get out of listening to his music. His music is still touching the hearts of humanity. He left an important legacy behind as a gift to all of us. It is his ministry and it is still alive. He is missed but he is still here. I want to meet him someday and thank him in person.
What a Homecoming that had to be when he passed to glory! Can you just picture, Rich arriving at the Gate, barefoot, hands stuffed in his pockets, singing "there is such a thing as glory..." Jesus suddenly hears that voice from inside, and jumps up laughing "He's here! He's HERE!" and runs through Heaven to the Gate, swings those massive pearls wide and scoops up Rich in a huge bear hug. The two of them, striding the streets, arms around each other, laughing and catching up like old times.
this man lifts me up on my darkest of days when i've become so calloused by the worries of the world. he joined the Lord well before I became a Christian, and yet his faith has made a huge impact on me through his amazing music. thank you for this blessing, Lord Jesus.
Whats so great about Rich is that he could never be put into any of the boxes that we like to. He was a believer but not inot denominational arguments, he worshiped with Quakers and catholics and every group in between. He was neither a conservative or a liberal in politics...he just loved Jesus and tried to stay true to Him.
@LauraEmanuela ME TOO! " Discovered" him in spring 98, fell in love with his songs, then found out about the "accident" , Jesus has helped me so much through Rich's love and music for HIM, never grow old!
Hello akkalove1, I just wanted to anwser your question about Rich Mullins. He died in 1998 due to a car wreck. He died instantly, but I guess it was his time to go. :( At least we have his beautiful songs to remember him by.
Yes, it is. But, he obviously served his time here on earth the way God wanted him to and God was ready to take him home. He's with Jesus in heaven now so I'm sure he's doing much better than we are.
This is a prayer, a prayer that is forever sang for us to pray with our Bro now with our Lord. So, I pray for all of us hearing this prayer, a song and request...'so hold me Jesus cause I'm shaking like a leaf, you have been my King of my glory, won't you be my Prince of Peace....." This goes out in Jesus name for all who read this. Amen!
No dude, I'm talkin' about D1, and you're right, it has only 16 tracks, my mistake... but in the last one (nichole's) if you let the track running, you're gonna hear a "bonus track" and that one is Rich's.. listen carefully.
Oh you're right... I remember that. I left my cd collection in my truck when it was totalled so I don't have the disk handy but I remember there being a secret track.
If a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod and he dies at his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, he survives a day or two, no vengeance shall be taken; for he is his property. Ex 21:20-21
You may also buy them from among the children of aliens among you, or from their families, whom the begot in your land. These shall become your property: you may keep them as a possession for your children, for them to inherit as property for all time. Such you may treat as slaves. Lev 25:44
Rich was a great man, and the best Christian musician I know. I had the privilege and honor of meeting him and seeing him perform twice here in Mesa Arizona.. I love all his songs and I still miss him.
Beautiful tribute to Rich, great song selection I think, we all have our favorites , Elijah, would make a good one, too, any song of his would cos they are all good. Great sound quality by the way, you have his passing date as 87 instead of 97,
Lots of great Christain artists but few who can so thouroughly effect your life through thier music. Rich Mullins was one along with Keith Green and Larry Norman. All gone from this earth now but thier impact will be felt for generations.
i miss him. i know if anybody is in heaven he is. his music is so inspirational. he not only sang the words he lived the words. he could have had so much in this world with the success of his first albums but he chose not to. such an example of his walk with Christ if we all had as much courage and conviction as Rich. rest my brother your work here is done and i hope i will join you there one day barefooted and we can sing.
I am a Wichita native. We looked forward to seeing Rich in Sept of '97, when he was scheduled to perform a benefit concert for a Methodist Youth Program. We were so crushed by his death. More than 10 years later we still think of him often. I look forward to seeing you face to face someday. Love you brother.

I met Rich before he was "Rich Mullins". He was 24-25. He held a bible study in my parents home. He was different and I adored him. I was 16 at the time. I am blessed to have been his friend. I will look him up when I get to heaven some day. He was a true inspiration. Love ya Rich!
rich worked with our youth group in Wichita Kansas as a asst. youth pastor i didnt learn of death until summer of 2000. I just want to say he was a great man and full of joy. when he first came to wichita i was very touched by his spirit and then he started working with the youth doing all night lockins and he would always sing his fav. song (blowing in the wind) he loved that song. god bless rich!!
I first heard of Rich 7 years after he'd died. What an impact he's had on my life--the Holy Spirit continues to work through his words. That is a legacy....
Hi Crackerscat1, Yes, this is true... He came to this Earth to write these loving messages for us and now his job is done here, so now he has simply and peacefully gone home... God Bless his loving eternal Spirit...Peace
Rich touched my life in so many ways, I have ever song he ever sung and cherish them. My Mom was killed and one of my first thoughts was my precious Mom has met Rich, together with so many in Heaven. They sing.
Rich was like a shooting star; his life burned so brightly in such a short time for the Lord Jesus Christ. Sometimes I wonder, sometimes I ask God--why He took so abruptly the two most inspirational voices in Christian music over the last thirty years? (Keith Green being the other, in my humble opinion). And although I could conjecture many pat answers as to the reason, I honestly have to say that I don't know. But I am confident that God knows...
fabulous tribute to Rich! I can't believe it has been that long either! Thank you for making it!!
Rich is still here in his music, it will never die, it is ageless. I bet Rich is here watching over us all as well. I know he has a special job in heaven to be taken from us so soon.
Love you brother.

this has to be the one song I have kept going back to over the course of my life.
the lyrics ring very true for me, and I'm sure for a lot of other people too.
"ive got to fight for something I dont really want, and take what you give that I need".
every verse in this song has convicted me over and over again, when I would want to live for ME, and not Jesus.
this is one of the most beautiful songs I hsve ever heard.

FUCK MULLINS AND HIS LAME ASS MUSIC. A passing tractor-trailer swerving to avoid the Jeep killed Mullins.

They sing.
Till me meet again.....
Thank you for this video.

I know he has a special job in heaven to be taken from us so soon.

nothing's the same since you went Home, Rich, but still I'm glad God made you and that we were here at the same time. Can it be ten years already?

It has been nearly 10 years since Rich Mullins died. Hard to believe but true.
