God ! what power! I saw this line up @ NYC's Cafe au GoGo in '66.
I was 19 a fan, but the first time I saw them live. This video shows the band at their best. That short time frame of 65-69 when a blues revival was going on was great I was able to see most of my heros from the Chicago scene;could'nt ask for a better education.
I'm a fan of such like music and I stumbled on this vid. Song made me happy. Good shit with Mud and Cotton. I'm drinking, I scroll down comments. God, I hate u people. Argue, bitch, and I'm better than you and all that. The side I think is right is just as guilty for posting. LISTEN. I don't hate anybody, I just get drunk and pissed.
White people don't, or can't play like this. Miles Davis said thar black people play slightly ahead of the beat. Gives the music more drive in blues AND jazz.
@Rajamuttu butterfield played ahead of the beat? man if you know how to count he was many times OFF beat! you give him and Siegle too much credit, if they were not white and jews they would not had been more than lounge or street musicians.
@Rajamuttu hohoho litlle piece of shit, the truth hurts you because it exploded in your wormy face.Poor little ignorant you wouldn't be able to see the difference between an artists and a copy,it is beyond your comprehension, it is like trying to explain to you the 'off beat' even with your metronome.You can not erase facts with your little rants of ignorance,keep barking old dog, a secondary student would understand better music facts than you.
Muddy recorded many versions of this song, but there is something special about this version. It must be the white socks!! James Cotton is on fire and the whole band is outstanding.
@SamPaiKenpo tell me if you ever saw one time James Cotton NOT on fire? he always played with intensity and pleasure.These guys were music all day long not only while performing live.
Listen to that bass line! I wonder who that is? Could be Fred Below on drums. Piano? Spann? I don't think it is Pinetop Perkins. What a great band. Note how Cotton jumps up at 3:06. When I saw him two years later, he was all over the stage and even played while doing somersaults. I kid you not. Quite a showman that James Cotton.

@hill3141
Racist bullshit, son. You AND Miles both.
Right off the top of my head - James Montgomery, Paul Butterfield, William Clarke, and Corky Siegel.
I won't even bother to list all the thousands of white musicians who play ahead of the beat - blues, jazz and pop.

@kontiki78
First of all you are an ass, a racist and a bigot.
Second of all, Paul Butterfield is about as Jewish as Nelson Mandela.
Third you wouldn't know where the beat is if you had your own metronome.
Fourth, add Howard Levy to the list.
Fifth, you are a bigot, a racist and and ass. Fuck you, and don't ever post to me again, racist bigot.

You have never been talking about music. You are simply spewing racist filth.
I asked you never to post to me again, you bigoted racist asshole.

Just to be REAL CLEAR, I will correct the mis-spelling.
You are a bigot, a racist and an ass. Fuck you, and don't ever post to me again, racist bigot.
