Hey! If you love metalcore, check us out! Just go to our page or search "No Soul To Take - Culmination" and check out one of our songs off our EP, "Survival", which hits iTunes and Amazon on 8/20/11!
@bcphockeyfreak11 sometimes ( more than you think) people will program drums. so either they buy software that emulates drum sounds and you place the kits according to the music.
not really dude, an ignorant statement would be like someone saying the sun really is a planet not a star. thats ignorant. me saying i don't listen to a band because i don't like their name.,, is preference. not ignorance dawg
jerod's so fast and precise with the double bass! i cant believe he plays heels-up and so close to the kit, crazy,, i tried that a while back and ended up playin heel down like the rev and using swivel-technique, much more control IMO... this guy should be recognized a bit more among drummers idk, do some vids r something?
It's so cool to see such an amazing band, one that puts on kick ass shows (Shout out, Indianapolis!) and makes such amazing, fluid, dynamic, and flat out precise music, also listen to Circa Survive.
i saw that. i am wrong i give you that. i looked at them wrong. but idk ill have to text him and ask. he said it was all live drumming so i believe him. hes a great drummer its hard not to ya know.
@grantbeaudry triggers dont go on uh mics they go on the drums to record them. lol also those arnt triggers their the clamps to hold on the mics to the drum kit. :)
@CJRayson72 ok i hit him up. he said they used f triggers at first for the demos. then did the rest of the album live. so he did 90% all live drums. so yes those are triggers but they were manly for demo tracking.
@Dodgecityscene What do you know about drums on Apologies Are For The Weak? Cause the stuff he said at 1:18 was kinda confusing to me. Did he mean that he used mics or actually played the songs? It sounded to me like he was saying that all the drums on Apologies are programmed. Which would suck cause those parts are sick!!
@Dodgecityscene So he actually played the parts and replaced the sounds? Or is it all computer. And I know he's an amazing drummer. One of my favorite metal drummers.
@CJRayson72 um on monument it was just a few parts done by triggers. maybe they didnt have the time to go back and track it live. idk! on apologies are for the weak they used triggers because Joey was i guess really into those at the time. but i dont know to much about the drums on aaftw.
As far as the triggering goes, as mentioned in previous comments, this album is apparently live drums, so I ASSUME Joey is using the triggers for the following: a) To sample-replace sparse, individual hits where necessary with samples taken from this very kit (which is occasionally needed). b) To trigger samples in duplicate tracks, and then using those samples to trigger the gating for the live drum tracks via sidechain. That is to say, sidechain gating is pretty much the best way to gate this style of drums in the studio, regardless of triggers. You don't necessarily need triggers to do it. It's just much much MUCH quicker if you do. Saves you lining up all the samples yourself. Do a search for 'sidechain gating'. It's pretty sick. I record all my drums 'real', but I'm buying a set of triggers just for this reason. Like I said, you don't NEED triggers to do it, but it's just really long otherwise.

It's pretty much the best way to gate this style of drums in the studio.

Hello there fellow metalheads.
Instead of a Metal rebellion i propose a new plan.
1. Don't bash other metal artists, we need to unite. We cant fight against pop music if we arent even together.
2. Watch more and other metal videos to get it to the top of the youtube vid list
3. Instead of bashing pop, promote metal with logical reasons, not just "METAL RULES!"
If you like this idea, thumbs it up JUST so people can see it, and also spread it around if you like this idea
