well considering that the WHOLE house is in flames why waste the time and money, get the lawn chairs out and a ice cold beer and watch er burn haha. and its only waterford not that many big fire houses in michigan that i know of
Where I work, the second due engine, the third due engine, the truck company, the rescue squad, the IC, and the RIT team would be there within two minutes. SCABS
Just a heads up to scfd232, the "garden hose" you speak of is a smooth bore nozzle attached to an 1 3/4 handline. I know this because I stretched the first handline. It may not look like much, but it did a fine job cooling the B side exposure. Also, I'm going to assume your a firefighter (Im guessing in Genesee County by your user name scfd)....we did stretch 2 1/2 lines, but as you know....A HYDRANT IS NECESSARY BEFORE FLOWING BIG WATER....had to wait for the 2nd due engine to stretch.
Great video! The majority of the firefighters were at the house to the north which was also fully involved and you are completely unable to see that in the video as the smoke was so heavy and the wind was 25-30 mph. 2 houses were involved and a 3rd received minor damage. You are correct, 2 sets of downed power lines arching, 1 gas meter on fire, and several propane tanks on fire too. In fact when the camera changes perspectives you can see a propane tank relief valve going off.
I would say that house had a few bullets lying around. Let it burn. Here when this happens we put up several 2 1/2 inch lines on either side of the structure and aim each stream over the roof at each. When they hit they cause a mist over the entire fire that help keep the embers down and the heat down thereby saving other exposures. Glad your house was ok.

A joke.. If they fight fire like that in Pontiac the whole city would burn down.

I don't think it was bullets. It is most likely the power lines shorting out as the insulation burns off.
