Nice video, I'm going to fly a 172N for the first time after getting my PPL in a 172SP with fuel injection. This video helps me know what to do so I don't look silly in front of my pax. Thanks.
@zenbey101 It isnt scary flying solo. If something happens, take care of it. It doesnt change how everything works once the instructor is standing on the taxiway versus sitting in the airplane
@nibelung34343 The avionics were not on if youll notice. After I started it, I flipped them on and talked about turning them on, then you could see them boot up. The avionics cooling fan is independent and always runs.
@nibelung34343 Starting the engine with avionics on will not hurt the battery. However, the power surge from the alternator could ruin some avionics. That is the reason for turning off AV before starting.
Complicated. Sucks, for people like me, who wish to fly someday, but would never remeber stuff like this, that it isnt a sit in, and close the door, and turn the key like in a car!
As a Private pilot flying in New England, I know how it feels flying in the cold. ha ha. Anyway, using the parking brake on start-up could be detrimental to the brake wear. Just use the toe brakes manually. Also, try priming before turning on your master, as to not burn out the fan if you are suddenly distracted in the middle of your prime sequence. Just a few things I noticed from pilot to pilot. Nice 172 though. What year?
I believe it was a 1982 P model. Alot of times i dont use the parking brake, but I figured I would, since usually being distracted by a camera isnt part of my start sequence lol.
I'd have to agree with this. Aircraft batteries are notoriously pathetically under-powered for the task, and there is barely enough power to crank the engine over at the best of times. I am a Canadian pilot, I totally sympathise with the cold weather, ha!! I liked this video, when I start back up in the flying world again I'll be sure to post another flying video. Happy flying bigguy6100!! You too Crane63091...
one point he does have, that is a checklist, I just received a boot up the arse from me C.F.I for starting one of our PA28s without a checklist, you tend to miss stuff, so I definitely vote for using a checklist.

Typical aircraft owner. No checklist usage. After the engine starts, my eyes immediatly go to the oil pressure gauge. How about putting the XPDR on altitude mode before take off?
I wish I owned the airplane, it would be nice. My eyes were moving checking things mentally that the camera didnt see. As for the transponder, there is a gap between the end of this video and the beginning of the next where I fixed my cam to the glareshield, and set my radios.

you really shouldnt have your avionics on when you start as you could overload the battery

@nibelung34343 He didn't. He turned the avionics master on after the engine started.

@Motorfordtoyota you have a checklist book in your aircraft that you follow. It has the start up steps.

At my FBO Its about 189 + Fuel
cwo44 2 years ago
how much did it cost for you to get your pilots license?
MegaCessna172 2 years ago
It depends on how fast you learn but in my state (PA) it comes to about $6000 for a Private Pilots Licence last time I checked.
Again, could be a little more or less depending on your area and how fast you catch on to everything.
jnjoblon 2 years ago
Nice. The one thing I want to point out is that you didn't check your alternator system/low warning light.
Fly fast.

I wish I owned it. I've just flown so many 172's that I know them well. I used to have a Cherokee and a 152 however.
