  • Nice video, I'm going to fly a 172N for the first time after getting my PPL in a 172SP with fuel injection. This video helps me know what to do so I don't look silly in front of my pax. Thanks.

    P.S. Clean your windshield!

  • is it scary flying solo?

    what if something happens?

you got no help... im a student pilot and im so nervous about my first solo

  • @zenbey101 It isnt scary flying solo. If something happens, take care of it. It doesnt change how everything works once the instructor is standing on the taxiway versus sitting in the airplane

  • Excellent video, excellent narration. You have one sweet plane there!

  • Nice video. You should visit the Cessna 172 Club and Forum. It's free and I think you'd like it. cessna172forum dot you-know-what. :)

    Tom

  • Cool vid. Part of my preflight is "remove bugs from windshield" ;)

  • Nice 172!

  • you really shouldnt have your avionics on when you start as you could overload the battery

  • @nibelung34343 The avionics were not on if youll notice. After I started it, I flipped them on and talked about turning them on, then you could see them boot up. The avionics cooling fan is independent and always runs.

  • @nibelung34343 He didn't. He turned the avionics master on after the engine started.

  • @nibelung34343 Starting the engine with avionics on will not hurt the battery. However, the power surge from the alternator could ruin some avionics. That is the reason for turning off AV before starting.

  • I used this video to learn how to turn on the 172 in Xplane :D

  • Sucks you cant just get in and go lik ein a car!

  • Complicated. Sucks, for people like me, who wish to fly someday, but would never remeber stuff like this, that it isnt a sit in, and close the door, and turn the key like in a car!

  • @Motorfordtoyota you have a checklist book in your aircraft that you follow. It has the start up steps.

  • You can get one for 30g

  • im going to buy a cessna for 50g small price for plane where do you go to buy hangars in a airport to keep it?

  • i assume that , that particular model of 172 has a carburetor rite?

  • @xfernydrummerX Correct

  • yea you fly out of jnx in Johnston co i am starting flight school at Sanford ktta

  • Hey jnjoblon..exactly what year are you trapped in?!?! $6000...yeah, right.

  • Wow, a little cold at 40 degrees. It's cold over here in SoCal at 65 lol

  • no checklist why

  • At my FBO Its about 189 + Fuel

  • how much did it cost for you to get your pilots license?

  • It depends on how fast you learn but in my state (PA) it comes to about $6000 for a Private Pilots Licence last time I checked.

Again, could be a little more or less depending on your area and how fast you catch on to everything.

  • Nice. The one thing I want to point out is that you didn't check your alternator system/low warning light.

    Fly fast.

  • how much does it cost to take it out for like a 1 hour flight?

  • At the FBO where I rent it, its $120 an hour fuel included.

  • yeah same at mine...where you fly out of?

  • Johnston County, KJNX

  • wow! i pay $89 an hour for a fueled Cessna 172N at Atlantic.

  • Ahhh. I see. Very true.

  • As a Private pilot flying in New England, I know how it feels flying in the cold. ha ha. Anyway, using the parking brake on start-up could be detrimental to the brake wear. Just use the toe brakes manually. Also, try priming before turning on your master, as to not burn out the fan if you are suddenly distracted in the middle of your prime sequence. Just a few things I noticed from pilot to pilot. Nice 172 though. What year?

  • I believe it was a 1982 P model. Alot of times i dont use the parking brake, but I figured I would, since usually being distracted by a camera isnt part of my start sequence lol.

  • I'd have to agree with this. Aircraft batteries are notoriously pathetically under-powered for the task, and there is barely enough power to crank the engine over at the best of times. I am a Canadian pilot, I totally sympathise with the cold weather, ha!! I liked this video, when I start back up in the flying world again I'll be sure to post another flying video. Happy flying bigguy6100!! You too Crane63091...

  • how much was she?god i cant wait till im 16 so i can fly one of these beuties

  • Im not sure how much it went for when the flight school sold it a couple months ago

  • To the right of the red mixture knob is a digital clock/timer someone stuck there for IFR work

  • looks like a pretty IFR-able skyhawk!

    nice

  • thank you cleared a lot up for me

  • cool.. nice cessna

  • one point he does have, that is a checklist, I just received a boot up the arse from me C.F.I for starting one of our PA28s without a checklist, you tend to miss stuff, so I definitely vote for using a checklist.

  • I wish I owned the airplane, it would be nice. My eyes were moving checking things mentally that the camera didnt see. As for the transponder, there is a gap between the end of this video and the beginning of the next where I fixed my cam to the glareshield, and set my radios.

  • is that your plane? wheres it stored at?

  • I wish it was mine, I sold both my planes a while back, and I rent this one. Its at Johnston County in North Carolina.

  • I wish I owned it. I've just flown so many 172's that I know them well. I used to have a Cherokee and a 152 however.

  • You push the mixture in like I do. haha.. I like the vertical magnetic compass, too. You look like you own the plane. nice.
