I would like to breed some mice in my back yard instead if my house which most people so. I live in Utah so it does get a little cold would they be just fine living in a shed in bins or would they need a heat pad or a heat lamp of both? Ps for snake food!!
Lovely set-up! I don't think I'll ever have enough snakes to warrant it, but ya never know. I already breed feeder roaches for my dragons, but with only one snake it's not really necessary to be breeding the rats.

Should be thankful these rodents are in reasonable size, clean cages. MUCH better then where YOUR meat comes from!

how many snakes do you have to feed i only have 3 but i breed my own feeder rats i have about 15 females and 3 males breeding right now. but the rats that breed for me are my pets. My 2 male is blind but he still breeds like no tomorrow i don't know how he became blind but he eats and drinks just fine. but i like you're setup. I am also getting another female boa constrictor down the road so i can breed her to my 7 foot male boa this season so hopefully we have babie's this season.

@TorynTYRANT I just started breeding rats myself and honestly the smell is not that bad as long as you keep their enclosure clean regularly. Now mice are a different story. I bred mice before and they are disgusting and they have a habit of eating each others brain out. Good luck!

@a547782 I would try giving the male is own enclosure and put the female in there with him for a few hours each day till you see that she maybe prego. Or you may need a different male. My opinion I'm no expert.

those tubs are not smooth on the inside. do you have a problem with them chewing on the ridges? i breed rats and was going to use 41qrt tubs as grow out bins but they are not smoth on the inside.

do you feed frozen or live? i have always fed my snakes live rodents my whole life and have never had a problem with it. Everybody has been telling me that it is dangerous feeding live but i enjoy whatching them eat live rodents and my snakes like to kill lol.

Do you still use these tubs? I bet you had some chew thru it! I found out the hard way that the tubs must be completely smooth! If they have any ridge or crease at all where they can chew, they will eventually make a hole big enough to ESCAPE!

hey at 1:40 the hide you got in the tub would be hard to clean. Cos wouldn't the pee absorb into the wood? I just use old icecream containers or even disposable little cardboard boxes as hides, it works. :)

it all depends on were you live in the uk you cant feed live. also if the snake dosent eat the prey. the rat can cause serious damage to the and maybe even kill the snake.i wouldnt want any scaring on my snakes and i would feel like such a dick if the snake died. but it is personal preference if you want to take the risk ! but i hope that helps.
I have a more or less large rodent collection (mostly mice) and every mouse that's born here will end up in the freezer...I refuse to feed my animals live....and you know, the animal is going to die anyway....either by constriction or C02,...I just dont want to risk my reptile to get hurt...

I breed mice and asf's. The ASF's are 100% cleaner. I wish I could get rid of the mice all together, but I have a couple of ball pythons who just prefer them over asf's (odd eh!?) I love the ASF's though 100x better. My racks look very similar.
Can they really eat through 1/8" mesh, I thought 1/4" was pushing it? I have my set up with 1/4" for mice and 1/2" for rats. Never had any issues!

I did this for a while. I fianlly stopped because they set off my asthma every time I cleaned them. It was too sad to deal with dead babies too.
Your set up is MUCH better than mine ever was. The only thing is that you have to clean each box separately and I had trays...
The best part was watching the babies grow up.....
A respiratory infection finally wiped almost everyone out. The few that were left lived a good life until normal rat inbreed stuff got them too.

@animelover13ify Nasty rats have less right to live than 'little cute things'? Plus the rats are obviously cared for properly and it's necessary for the snakes survival. You wouldn't stop them eating little cute things in the wild anyway and the ones at the store have a much worse life before they're killed.

do you feed frozen or live? i have always fed my snakes live rodents my whole life and have never had a problem with it. Everybody has been telling me that it is dangerous feeding live but i enjoy whatching them eat live rodents and my snakes like to kill lol.

Do you still use these tubs? I bet you had some chew thru it! I found out the hard way that the tubs must be completely smooth! If they have any ridge or crease at all where they can chew, they will eventually make a hole big enough to ESCAPE!

hey at 1:40 the hide you got in the tub would be hard to clean. Cos wouldn't the pee absorb into the wood? I just use old icecream containers or even disposable little cardboard boxes as hides, it works. :)

it all depends on were you live in the uk you cant feed live. also if the snake dosent eat the prey. the rat can cause serious damage to the and maybe even kill the snake.i wouldnt want any scaring on my snakes and i would feel like such a dick if the snake died. but it is personal preference if you want to take the risk ! but i hope that helps.

I have a more or less large rodent collection (mostly mice) and every mouse that's born here will end up in the freezer...I refuse to feed my animals live....and you know, the animal is going to die anyway....either by constriction or C02,...I just dont want to risk my reptile to get hurt...

I breed mice and asf's. The ASF's are 100% cleaner. I wish I could get rid of the mice all together, but I have a couple of ball pythons who just prefer them over asf's (odd eh!?) I love the ASF's though 100x better. My racks look very similar.
