  • hahaha I thought that the Slash chords were sort of like the Hendrix chords ;)

  • q facil dominei de 6kkkkk

  • I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if this guy does the voiceover for the Geico Gecko :D

  • Thumbs up if you find that this was a good lesson, but still disappointing! :)

  • E minor / A flat

  • well, i was expecting a guy with a top hat and a les paul teaching some Slash´s tricks...

  • Hahahaha fcking funny, Slash (guitarist) fans VS People trying to learn slash chords XD!!

  • thumbs up if you thought that this was about chrods that slash uses R

  • Thanks dude! Am I the only one that didn't think this had anything to do with GNR Slash?! LOL Good lesson. Straight to the point.

  • 220,930 people got trapped from this smart title, lol

  • Thumbs up if you thought he was going to teach us chords that slash uses...

  • this is the KEY for playing fingerstyle solo..!!

  • let's get closer ...

  • where did this "in soviet russia" stuff come from?

  • would be interesting how many people really hoped to see the mystery of slash figured down, including me..:D good job though

  • Well there is no big difference between that and the regular chords right ??

  • slash chords are for guitarist to cheap to get a bassist

  • 9:43 WTF

  • in soviet russia "\" is "/"

  • @MrSnatch22

in soviet russia, saying 'in soviet russia, etc.' is old and unfunny.

  • @LfunkeyA I'm smiling right now cause you said "soviet russia" yourself =)

  • @Thermikus

i'm smiling too, because i expected someone to be a douche about it

  • @LfunkeyA That wasn't nescessary, was ist? Be polite..

  • @Thermikus

    i am polite

  • @Thermikus Some people just instantly become vile once they log onto youtube. In real life, they're a mixture between mummyboy's... soft as fuck pussy's... or just general faggots.

But because they know they are safe behind a screen, and no-one knows who they are... They feel it is acceptable to unleash this aggressive side.

It is NEVER acceptable to unleash negative emotions, but the immature little fucks wouldn't know that... =)

  • @PrepareToBeDazzled immature little fucks being a totally positive phrase...

  • howlaah people - fail spanish

  • i thought that slash invented these chords!!

  • Good grief, Justin Sandercoe! Are you wearing pajamas?!

  • well explained,thank you

  • you are a good teacher...thanks for your work...

  • Hey Justin could you possibly upload a lesson on polychords? I've been reading through the guitar grimoire by adam kadmon and I've tried looking everywhere online for a good explanation of polychords as it tries to talk about in the book, but I havent found anything close to decent in explaining them.

  • i know im gonna sound like an idiot but can someone please tell me whats a bass note? im french so i didnt really understood haha :P

  • meton tu jours do majeur well ta bass note sa srais do, jpense ser sa xD

  • haha nevermind, jviens de guetter ca que ca voulais dire, merci pareille :P

  • bass note is the root note of the chord.. haha.. for example for G chord the bass note will be the 6th string ( counted from below) on the 3rd fret.. haha.. and for C will be 5th string on the 3rd fret.. hope it helps :)

  • Bass note=the lowest or deepest sounding note in a chord.

  • Very good work my friend!!

    Best regards from Madrid (Spain)

Could you tell me the guitars are you using in the differents videos??

    Juanma

  • I'll admit that I came here looking to get schooled in Guns 'N' Roses...

    But, informative, nevertheless!

  • great explanations , justin

    thx berher

  • sry i am not good in eng can somebody please put into words thx what is a slash chord?

  • @iceymanjack a slash chord is for example : D/C(the one described here). The name comes from the way you write it in the score using a slash"/". on the right side of the slash is the chord symbol- D(D F# A) and on the right is the bass note "c" in this case

  • @MegaKubel sorry for a mistake in my earlier reply. the chord is on the left side of the slash.

  • its something like C/E or D/F# (you find them commonly in various transcritpions)

  • Nice man! Good 4 you to know this things and to tell other...

  • 6:30 - 6:36 Stairway To Heaven

(If there's a bustle in your hedgerow part)

  • the lesson of english exist?

    does it mean that?

    im working on my french

  • @iceymanjack Yeah

Les cours d'anglais existent = English lessons exist

  • great teacher

  • 3:44-3:52 is the opening to free bird :D

  • This helped! :D

  • C -> G/B -> Am: Beginning of the chorus in "Dust in the wind" by The Scorpions/Kansas

D -> A/C -> E: "Angels" by Robbie Williams (The part: "I'm lovin' angels instead")

Just to mention a few examples :-)

  • It should probably be better off called Slashed Chords....not for the sake of confusion or for Saul Hudson.....(( would have been better if he named the vid that way although people have stated some useful things about GNR after someone confused this vid with GNR which i gladly read and learned about thanks to your comments))....uhrm....it just sounds more correct to be called "Slashed"

  • well,

if the main topic are slash chords (as they are called) then the title is not wrong....

i dont want to say that the expression of "slash chord" is basic knowledge, but before you start complaining about guys video titles, you really should think about if its your weak brain or actually a video title which is confusing you!

  • Damn i thought this was talking about Slash from GNR....i think he made this style of chords.....reply to this comment so i can read what you have to say if this is wrong....any tips on pedals or GNR wouldnt hurt =D

  • Justin is the man! Some of the best guitar lessons on youtube

  • lol i thought it was slash chords as in chords that slash uses jajajajaja

  • me 2 XD

  • Me too!

  • 6:20 slash uses that in don't cry :)

  • same here hahaha

  • @Luiso57 i even thought that lol !

  • @Luiso57 Same here!!!!! XD

  • @Luiso57 Same :p

  • @Luiso57 you dumb fuck.

  • @Luiso57 thhhought that to

  • @Luiso57 are you fucking joking?

  • @Luiso57 Me too!

  • @Luiso57 i thought the same :D

  • Many thanks! I've been playing for a while and never really understood what the slash chords meant, so I just decided to pick one or used my ears to create some whaky chord- very educational!

  • this is actually a pretty cool, clear informative lesson which could be really useful for composing, speaking of D-chord slash chords, red hot chilli peppers uses a variation in the song My Friends. funny thing is from 3:45,i recognize as from vertical horizon's song - grey sky morning, which i was just tabbing today, with notes which are anoyingly hard to identify by ear.

Anyways, justin's video's are very good after all.

  • Irie

  • omg i saw a lot of songs with slash chords but i never realised it mean this

  • Finally!!! Some one who can give me a decent answer on slash chords. I have met good guitarists who had no idea

  • lol heart frets, alittle feminine. ur awesome btw.

  • There are hearts, spades, diamonds and clubs. Like from the playing cards. Not only hearts.

  • It was helpful, thanks :) I always wondered what this slash chords are. The title is misleasing, though :D

  • This guitar is girl, look at the hearts rsrsr

  • hahaaha girly but cool sound anyway

  • Spades, hearts, diamonds, and clubs. From the cards.

    They're not only hearts.

  • Oh come on the slash means "/" not for Slash the guitarist quit with that bullshit! Not bashing on Slash or anything but I HIGHLY doubt he was the one who made them popular. People try to credit these icons with everything!

  • yes, but who invented the "/" sign if not Slash himself? :)

  • @arsguitarrica No, it's that it said "Slash" and there's a guy named slash, and most people dont xare what "/" chords are so they're like "Oh, it's Slash's Chords"

  • @arsguitarrica I must admit I got confused and thought it meant Slash(guitarist) not slash(/) cos I had just been watching a video on Slash playing one of the solos from Estranged and this vid was in the list, it's a great video, but clearly not Slash related :)

  • @arsguitarrica calm down.

  • @SabbraCadabra Huh my comment didn't seem too racy, I didn't call him names or anything. Is it not the truth? Why did he have to comment that when he had no idea what he was talking about? Slash chords have been around for hundreds of years...

  • LOL, I love the way people just invent things to try and make themselves seem knowledgeable.

Slash chords were used by the Beatles and a lot of artists even before them, stop talking bollocks.

  • bollocks?? whats do you mean by that

  • english slang for balls, me thinks

  • correct

  • lol

  • Wow, I love your inlays, no pun intended. Thanks for the help!

  • i think thease are not special slash( from GNR) Chords theyre just named like that

  • är det meningen att man ska fatta

  • ja för fan!

  • first dude doing a guitar tute or interview that dosnt act like a complete douche, awsome man (Y) very easy to understand and u didnt act like a dick.

  • I tell you what justin should be teaching is how to make make pedal tones like the sweet child o mine intro, papa roach-last resort, slayer's - spill the blood.

if you can make your own your famous,

otherwise this is a really good ideo on slash chords.

  • You're and idiot, man. Since when do you need a pedal to play the neginning of Sweet Child of Mine?

Anyway, Slash Chords have nothing to do with Slash the player. Watch the video next time.

  • it is obvious you have very little knowledge of what a pedal tone is,which apparently has nothing to do with pedals.you are right it has nothing to do with slash the player but i stated he used it n the song nightttrain during the chorus,to simulate a locomotive like sound, the intro riff to sweet childomine is a pedal tone because you pedal tone of the D E G notes while others remain constant,i noticed it uses eight notes with the first note changing between the D E G and seven constant

  • Duh,noobs havn't you been studying slash(saul hudson) or just playing his riffs, the chorus riffs in gunsnroses nightrain makes use of an aminor/C slash chord.

this is great for rock guitar because played in aminor/C sounds like a locomotive chugging, for real! try it.

  • Rolandomorando: I'm sure you can't speak English stupid, because there is such language All you punk's who like to post 4 letter words and use these comment boards like they are bathroom walls are ruining the free things in life that someone like Justin does for free...

  • Thanks justin huge thanks for making your tutorials accessible for people... Thanks alot for sharing

  • oh shit i thought hes talkin bout SLASH's chords

  • lol

  • i thought he was on about SLASH the rock star

    arr well another great lesson

  • Very good lesson. It shows what is possible on Guitar. Also it is a lesson about music. The "wandering" base note, a-minor, G bass, F bass is intro of Baby I m gonna leave You, by Led Zeppelin.

  • lol. when i clicked this video i thought it was about the guitarist slash. then he started talking about it and i was like ohhh.

  • lol

  • me too lol

  • me three

  • me too

it was on the related videos for a slash interview so i clicked on it

  • thanks. very helpful. learned a lot from just this video

  • Comment removed

  • best teacher in the world dude! when you know that you can do some good melodies already

  • I love this technique and I'm sure it's one Bob Dylan uses a lot.

  • I didn't realise it was that simple. I've often seen the D F sharp thingy in tabs and thought it meant u could play the D or F sharp chord but the F sharp didn't sound right lol.

  • Just wanna say that u are the best teacher on Youtube. Have learned alot from you. Thank you!

  • Hehe me too

  • I thought this vid was talking about a Slash chord, like slash from gnr/vr. hahaha!!!

  • me too

  • same here

  • yeah me too but im glad i watched it although

  • He got us all haha

  • i can play now...n itz a lot because o you..

  • best teacher in the world

    Thanks man.

  • swear i hear some zepline in this vid

  • i guess you hear some "Baby Im Gonna Leave You"...

  • thanks -- am melody / harmony player -- getting caught up on chords. great lesson and thanks...

  • oh i thought he meant slash like g'n'r, i had my les paul out with the gain up

  • ha ha!!.. i know wat u mean man!!.. ha ha!..

  • same here

  • im a victim too, ahaha

  • he got me to, lol.

  • I know!thats why i came

  • LMFAO same here

  • xD lol same here :)

  • hehehe heart inlays :P

  • Kinda hippy isnt it? xD

  • you fucking kick ass!!!

  • ei how can figure out what string am i going to put that base note?

  • yeah me too i already know what these slash chords are

  • I really appreciate that you take the time to slow all of your fingering and hand movement down to drive home your points. Its refreshing compared to the majority of other guitar teachers out there.

  • I thought it meant Slash chords. Like chords that Slash (GNR) Plays

  • Uh...you do realize that they're just chords, none are really specific to a certain band? Or artist

  • why doesnt he allow me to post video responses? any way i have a vid which shows u some cool slash chords check it out

  • Your video response needs to be approved by Justin before it appears. ;)

  • im waiting in vain for your next lesson!..:-(

  • o i get it

  • dam where the hell have i been. this just opened up a whole plethora of material for me to work on! thanks justin

  • woah...i learned something new xD....

  • nice lesson! i used to change chords like this but i didn't know its called slash chords =P

  • can you say tune your guitar?

  • can you say you are crazy?

  • dude... shouldn't throw stones... all 211 of your youtube hits don't make you a musician and furthermore.. you're not that good. Playing in a church on Sunday morning is not justification for calling yourself a musician.. so next time pay attention to the lesson if you need it and go away if you don't... acting like a loser makes you a loser...

  • all i was saying is his guitar is out of tune i was critisizing his playing or the lesson geez ppl you need to chiil

  • u r right, the guitar is out of tune

  • I'm pretty sure that his guitar is in tune. It's just that slash chords typically sound a bit dissonant, especially when the bass of the chord isn't a third or a fifth. (Like the Db/C at 2:21.)

  • oh ok

  • thank you so much!!!!!!!

    this explains everything

  • i'm astonished, all my guitar playing life seeing somthing like D/C would baffle me, i have asked many people to explain this and still not got it, 2 mins into the vid i already have worked it out, thank you sooo much!

  • you talk too much!!!!!!!!

    but the lesson is good

  • he kinda looks like a hippie

    lol gr8 teacher though

  • how does justin afford all of his guitars and pedals.....i cant even afford a guitar more than 200 dollars!

  • Im sick. I bought a 2700. Martin cutaway a year ago and afraid to take it out of the case so I use my 200. guitar because I'm always leaning it against the computer desk to learn stuff from the YouTube and 50 DVD guitar instructions.

  • Don't feel bad I do the same

and I found out I love the 200 guitar better than my Scheter Custom

  • well hes a fecking pro guitar teacher for a start

  • aaaahhh como me caga que hablen tanto, solo enseñen la puta cancion y ya
