If you ever head to Toccoa Georgia, go to the Milliken plant near Currahee, you can see some of the original buildings from the training camp. Mind you they weren't wooden as the movie shows, but cheap block structures. The plant is built on the old camp. I should know, I worked there at one time. The buildings still had graffiti from the soldiers trained there.

We tend not to mind having some officer revoke a weekend pass. What we hate is officers who assault sick men, or order them to their deaths in waves. Officers who put their lives on the line are like Wade McClusky and Fred Sherman were heroes to us not grandstanders like Patton.

@SugarTomAppleRoger Patton was a cavalry officer in WW1 he had been on the front line, and he went along the front all the time in WW2, and the soldier was not SICK, he MIGHT have had a metal condition. have you ever commanded an army group in an invasion before? do not judge those who have and how they do it, Patton had to get his troops in gear or they would have been stuck for weeks, and if him slapping a man who had no bodily harm done to him SAVED troops cause they won faster so be it.

for those of you that have never served in the military, 'weekend pass", means getting to change into civvis after command formation when the CO releases you and then hightailing it off base or anywhere on base and basically within reason doing as you please. Though permanent party stationed stateside now can pretty much do what they want anyway when they get off duty the way it is anymore, at least it was for us in the AF.

There are always that kind of soldiers in the army, scattered all over the place. When I was in the army, I've had a platoon leader like that - although, he had a good idea what he was suppose to do in the field. Harsh, demanding, annoying piece of sh*t most of the time I'd say. But he trained us well, I gotta give im that. He had his moments when he acted like what you can see in Kubrick's "Full Metal Jacket". With the exception: he might treat us like sh*theads, but never broke law.
