nice in IWATE?! I'll have to try going north. Tokyoites were xenophobic tward me and made me sleep on the street when i had a reservation just because I'm American they made clear to me.
The "Toys R Us smell" - WOW, you're not kidding! I've brought my son to enough of those stores to know that smell - and now he's too old to bring there, so... I occasionally go by myself (yes, another grown man in a TRU, don't be embarrassed!). But the toys there are MUCH cooler.
Thanks for the series! Amazing peek into Japanese life from an American perspective.
I lived in Kitakami in 2008 and came along your video when searching for Kitakami after the most recent earthquake/tsunami. So great to see the city from someone elses point of view. Hopefully it withstood the earthquake and there wasn't too much damage. My prayers and thoughts are with Japan.
I love how you're always willing to get lost in a foreign (pardon the pun) area just to find one store, or explore for the fun of it. If it were me, I'd be bumbling around with a map at all times.
I think I'm going to enjoy this series much more than the Tokyo Swan one. Iwate Swan is so much more realistic and it shows the natural side of living in Japan; I can't wait until it's my turn!
another good vid. just want to say that i went to tokyo this may for a week during the big festival they had and that you were a big part of my motivation to go and see alot of stuff.
great vid again rodger as always, cant wait for the room tour, btw cola shock is crappy, really cheap tasting cola with just a hint of alcoholic feeling to it, not good!
I remember going to Toys R Us in Sunshine City. Lets say I wasn't quite as excited. The wife and I didn't get too far into the store before I felt a strong urge to get out. Maybe it was the low ceiling of a department store where I am used to 20 ft ceilings. Akihabara was my Toys R Us though... :D
thanks for the feedback! as for your request, I would like to do a grocery store episode later on...so that would probably touch on some of that topic perhaps...
hmm. the city i am in is the third largest in iwate, so I think it is about the same as where I was from in michigan. However, there are certainly more rural parts here. Everything is much more spread out (japan's second largest prefecture), so it appears more rural...but it still has movie theaters, shopping malls, mcdonalds, toys r us and other such urban locations. I thought things were going to be more country...not complaining though haha.
thanks for the kind words. As for a 100 yen shop episode, that is one of the potential ideas for an upcoming episode. I would love to do one, it is just a question of when haha...
I want that Tom and Jerry at 3:35. Seriously. Also, first week I'm watching you since you're back in Nippon and I love the new song Keterol put together for ya.
What else... I love watching the people just go about their business. If for nothing else because I dig that they're so similar to people here and everywhere else I'd imagine.
love ur videos man ur one of the main reasons why i wanna go to japan thank u for letting us view ur experiences in the japanese culture its always informative and fun
cool video! i love looking at toys cuz for some reason it makes me happy and innocent like a child. brings back good memories when u had no worries or stress. but this is gonna sound mean, but becuz i love u, i have to say it, u been lookin like a bum lately lol. please shave. but thats if u want to. but im just saying...
cool! lol. Now u won't look like crazy bum asking where the toys r us is at. LMAO! sorry, but i remember when u said that the girls looked at u weird for asking.
Haha I wouldn't worry about being too old for Toy R' Us Rodger... Heck, I'd have to admit I wouldn't mind purchasing some things that I just saw in the video. =D Very cool video man!
Second time I saw COLA SHOCK. First time was 33Sammi32's vlog, where she sampled strange Japanized American products. Like multi-flavored Kit-Kats. But Vodka and Cola? Whats next? Octopus cooked up and served as a doughy ball? Swan, one thing about not having a car, you are sure to stay in shape!
haha i have a car now, but i'm eating healthier than i ever have. i've finally started to learn how to cook so i'm eating a lot of fresh foods these days. Perhaps that will be the subject of a future video...
Sounds great! I have a local Japanese grocery store here in Las Vegas. But the only thing I bought from them is Pocci. Since I also cook most of my own meals, I wanted to try to start a "Japanese diet". So any new videos on 'shopping for ingredients/ and or cooking', would be great! And of course whatever else you got! Haha. Later.
Awesome Video! Lol, hope it didn't take you to long to get back to the station. Oh and thanks to you I was able to help some customers when they asked me about "tokyo gore police" !!!!
Toys 'R' Us brings out the kid in us all Swan. You should know the commercials from the US..it features adults who don't wanna grow up cuz they're toys 'r' us kids. Thanks for another video.
Hey Swan, do you mind going back to that Toys R Us and grabbing me that Rei Neon Genesis Evangelion puzzle, along with a Ponyo Plushie? I'll forward you the money, haha.
Dude, that was so freakin' awesome! I'd love to see a Toys'R'Us in Japan! I'd go totally broke, mind you, but still . . . and don't worry about the age thing, just tell them you're buying something for your niece or nephew. ;-)
hmm, yarn? Don't really get that one... I mean if it is even supposed to be gotten:) Maybe it's a joke between you and somebody? I'm just guessing. I may be underestimating your randomness.
the move itself wasn't too hard, my supervisor has really helped me out in terms of getting things set up. Hardest part has been being away from my girlfriend back home... a video on that in the coming months haha.
Cool! I also used to stroll around in a toy store whenever I'm in a mall and just looking in theirs toys & stuffs. Too bad though there are very few Toys R Us store here in our country... I think.
Ah good ol' Toys 'R Us, I haven't been to one in so long. Strange seeing one amid all the Japanese stores. It kind of sticks out because it looks exactly like the ones in the States. Hmm, now that I think about it, there is a particular smell to all the Toys R Us stores. Maybe it's the smell of plastics and lead-based paint. Btw, how do you like your part of Japan compared to Tokyo?
I like living in Iwate. It's pretty nice. Everything is much more spread out up here, but since I have a car now it's not too difficult to get around.
I don't think the girls were confused about him going to toys r us. :)
