  • I don't think the girls were confused about him going to toys r us. :)

  • for the two people that didnt like this video you are dicks!!!

  • nice in IWATE?! I'll have to try going north. Tokyoites were xenophobic tward me and made me sleep on the street when i had a reservation just because I'm American they made clear to me.

  • LOL, the yarn part had me rolling. Thanks always for these videos.

  • Wow, I just saw that Rodger passed away... I'm so sorry. RIP.

  • The "Toys R Us smell" - WOW, you're not kidding! I've brought my son to enough of those stores to know that smell - and now he's too old to bring there, so... I occasionally go by myself (yes, another grown man in a TRU, don't be embarrassed!). But the toys there are MUCH cooler.

Thanks for the series! Amazing peek into Japanese life from an American perspective.

  • I lived in Kitakami in 2008 and came along your video when searching for Kitakami after the most recent earthquake/tsunami. So great to see the city from someone elses point of view. Hopefully it withstood the earthquake and there wasn't too much damage. My prayers and thoughts are with Japan.

  • Damn, how much I wish to have talked to you, rest in peace man.

  • where do you walk?

  • Damn Swan i miss you. RIP

  • you can bet I'm gonna smell the next Toys R Us that I enter.

  • Big Boy?! Haha, I bet being from MI, he was glad to see that. RIP dude~

  • Soo do u no japanese when you first arriv\ed?

  • i want to live in japan but im always scared that one of my family members die while im away

  • when you have the chance, just go!

Rodger has wanted it to!!!! RIP Rodger

  • You looked like a very great guy, I'm so sad you'll never post again. :( R.I.P

  • A Toys R Us in Japan is my Paradise!

  • The rain looked so beautiful.

  • on 6:22 you can see a old city set the police HQ

  • What music is it at 5:00?

  • Lol I can play and sing your song on guitar.

  • OMG THERE'S A BIG BOY! You have to do a video there ;o) *sigh* The memories.I wish they still had them over here.

  • im hungry no lol

  • Japan's country kind of reminds me of america's country...just different looking buildings (houses, etc.)

Oh yeah you need to get a car.

  • Man, compared to Japan, America looks like the Puritan times.

  • AH! I love puzzles!

  • what i wouldn't give for a day in that store w/ a whole lot of yen <3

    God bless!

  • I love how you're always willing to get lost in a foreign (pardon the pun) area just to find one store, or explore for the fun of it. If it were me, I'd be bumbling around with a map at all times.

I think I'm going to enjoy this series much more than the Tokyo Swan one. Iwate Swan is so much more realistic and it shows the natural side of living in Japan; I can't wait until it's my turn!

  • Toys R Us is a part of a persons child hood so it brings back fond memories. That's why I always smile seeing one. :)

  • Toys for the win!!

  • I like the giant Toys R Us here in NYC on time square, it has the built in ferris wheel.

  • You are a full-fledged explorer.

  • YESSS!!

  • another good vid. just want to say that i went to tokyo this may for a week during the big festival they had and that you were a big part of my motivation to go and see alot of stuff.

  • Dude, Chibi Edward Elric In Ze Toys R Us! 5:46! 8D

Ok, I'm Done Fangirling, But I Wanna Go There SO Bad Now XD

  • The Toys R Us in NC smell like old stuffy peeling paint. They need to really fix up their stores around here.

  • oh and i havnt heard you have a actualy relaxed convo in japanese :P maybe could you include one of them in your vid :) ?

  • 'started busting out the japanese'- hell yeh!!!

submerge yourself more swan!! SUBMERGE !!

  • HAZZAH! Did I see a Bob's Big Boy right before Toys R Us?? Why DO all Toys R Us stores smell the same? (A: Toys R Us cleaning products.)

  • yup that was indeed big boy near the toys r us! I was quite shocked to see one of those here up north in japan.

  • Nice video. Thank you for showing around Iwate. :)

  • Yaaay! Toys R Us! xD lol! It looks like they have so much more stuff there... =O

    Nice video! =)

  • omfg ponyo i love that movie i want the goldfish human thing i want a ponyo pokemoni want to go i will buy the store

  • great vid again rodger as always, cant wait for the room tour, btw cola shock is crappy, really cheap tasting cola with just a hint of alcoholic feeling to it, not good!

  • the 70s tash from the tokyo series appears to have evolved. great video as always. thanks

  • as always, great wee vids mate, oh and i hear that cola shock tastes foul lol

  • I remember going to Toys R Us in Sunshine City. Lets say I wasn't quite as excited. The wife and I didn't get too far into the store before I felt a strong urge to get out. Maybe it was the low ceiling of a department store where I am used to 20 ft ceilings. Akihabara was my Toys R Us though... :D

  • PONYO!!! I want one...for my girlfriend...yeah that's it...

  • Awesome Toys R US :D

Yay for another update! Hope you're having a wicked time there :)

  • 4:43 I WISH American Toys R Us stores were this glorious! I can't find any Gundam anymore!

  • lol did you get a cold

  • Hey great show glad to see that you are back in japan keep up the amazingly awsome job.

i also have a request if you could make a vlog about american food in japan

  • thanks for the feedback! as for your request, I would like to do a grocery store episode later on...so that would probably touch on some of that topic perhaps...

  • 6:01 - Cool Rei Ayanami puzzle!!

Compared to Michigan, do you think of Iwate as urban or rural as far as population and things to do there goes?

  • hmm. the city i am in is the third largest in iwate, so I think it is about the same as where I was from in michigan. However, there are certainly more rural parts here. Everything is much more spread out (japan's second largest prefecture), so it appears more rural...but it still has movie theaters, shopping malls, mcdonalds, toys r us and other such urban locations. I thought things were going to be more country...not complaining though haha.

  • Cool! Sounds like my kinda place!

  • Yay! Ponyo :)

Great to see that I'm not the only one who still enjoys going to toy stores Rodger.

  • esben hey! more toys will be featured in the episode after next actually haha :)

  • Swan you ROCK!!! Good man for showing us the lego! lol!

REQUEST: can you do a 100 yen shop special!

  • thanks for the kind words. As for a 100 yen shop episode, that is one of the potential ideas for an upcoming episode. I would love to do one, it is just a question of when haha...

  • i love the toy r us smell too haha !!!(^-^)

  • Sweet!! Toys I want!!

  • You are awesome Swan!

All of your videos are great.

  • rodger swan is KING!!!

  • Amigurumi!

I want all those Gundam model kits.

  • MORE YARN!

I want that Tom and Jerry at 3:35. Seriously. Also, first week I'm watching you since you're back in Nippon and I love the new song Keterol put together for ya.

What else... I love watching the people just go about their business. If for nothing else because I dig that they're so similar to people here and everywhere else I'd imagine.

  • your right about the smell and anime goods XD i saw ponyo at the a theater it cute and very good artwork

  • Im your beards biggest fan.

  • love ur videos man ur one of the main reasons why i wanna go to japan thank u for letting us view ur experiences in the japanese culture its always informative and fun

  • cool video! i love looking at toys cuz for some reason it makes me happy and innocent like a child. brings back good memories when u had no worries or stress. but this is gonna sound mean, but becuz i love u, i have to say it, u been lookin like a bum lately lol. please shave. but thats if u want to. but im just saying...

  • haha thanks, i've since shaved since the filming of this video actually :)

  • cool! lol. Now u won't look like crazy bum asking where the toys r us is at. LMAO! sorry, but i remember when u said that the girls looked at u weird for asking.

  • I hit up the Toys R Us in Odaiba when I was in Tokyo. It was remarkably amusing.

  • i've been to that one too haha. good times.

  • **__** toooooyyyysss

  • Oh my gosh, I'm definitely going to a Toys 'R' Us in Japan now. I don't know why I find it so cool, but it is! :P

  • I wonder if they'll let you join/advise any clubs at your school. That'd be interesting.

  • OMG that was soo cool, i wanna go to japan one day XD

and i was just wondering, but do people stare when u walk down the street talking to your camera?

  • only in small towns with not many foreigners

  • BIG KID

  • Great video!

It was really interesting to watch.

  • Haha I wouldn't worry about being too old for Toy R' Us Rodger... Heck, I'd have to admit I wouldn't mind purchasing some things that I just saw in the video. =D Very cool video man!

  • lol was that a big boy burgers? at 4:26

  • indeed it was!

  • haha didnt know they had those in japan

  • Second time I saw COLA SHOCK. First time was 33Sammi32's vlog, where she sampled strange Japanized American products. Like multi-flavored Kit-Kats. But Vodka and Cola? Whats next? Octopus cooked up and served as a doughy ball? Swan, one thing about not having a car, you are sure to stay in shape!

  • haha i have a car now, but i'm eating healthier than i ever have. i've finally started to learn how to cook so i'm eating a lot of fresh foods these days. Perhaps that will be the subject of a future video...

  • Sounds great! I have a local Japanese grocery store here in Las Vegas. But the only thing I bought from them is Pocci. Since I also cook most of my own meals, I wanted to try to start a "Japanese diet". So any new videos on 'shopping for ingredients/ and or cooking', would be great! And of course whatever else you got! Haha. Later.

  • I didn't think Japan had so much yarn xDD

  • were the guys like "eeeeeee Justin Timberlake desu ka?" haha swanski!

  • So sad I didn't get a chance to go to a Japanese Toys R Us while I was in Japan. Next time. Next time. :)

  • I just came. Holy crap, anime heaven.

  • Beaver research, eh? Lol.

    Good video, Roger.

  • seems Much better than Toys'R' Us back here

  • Huzzah!

  • kingdom hearts puzzle ftw @ 6:00

  • oh sweet Uniqlo on that outlet as well.

Can't wait for next week's house tour!

  • There's also used to be a Toys'R'us in Hachinohe!... it's in Aomori Prefecture I believe though. Don't remember how far that is from you.

  • I'm never failed to be amazed at your "omg lets go explore!" attitude. I'd be petrified to go explore a new place all alone.

lol as cheesy as it may sound, you're kinda inspirational. :D

  • Awesome Video! Lol, hope it didn't take you to long to get back to the station. Oh and thanks to you I was able to help some customers when they asked me about "tokyo gore police" !!!!

  • Toys 'R' Us brings out the kid in us all Swan. You should know the commercials from the US..it features adults who don't wanna grow up cuz they're toys 'r' us kids. Thanks for another video.

  • Hey Swan, do you mind going back to that Toys R Us and grabbing me that Rei Neon Genesis Evangelion puzzle, along with a Ponyo Plushie? I'll forward you the money, haha.

  • Thank you !!! Thank you !!! I love Toys R Us !!!

  • Dude, that was so freakin' awesome! I'd love to see a Toys'R'Us in Japan! I'd go totally broke, mind you, but still . . . and don't worry about the age thing, just tell them you're buying something for your niece or nephew. ;-)

  • I always look forward to these. :3

It seems likemyou're having a blast, and I'm envious and happy for you. :D

  • Cola shock! They stole my idea, well i wouldn't really call it an idea, more like a drunken mistake lol

  • Great Vid Rodger. You made my morning. :)

  • another great video swan i think its time to shave...

  • great vid.. def try to cola shock... everyones doing it!!

  • oh that naruto cardboard cutout is awesome

  • The music is getting progressively better... I really like it!

  • I'd avoid the cola shock. nasty, i couldn't finish a can - and I was thirsty.

Good to see you're having fun oop north :)

  • SRSLY, wear some sunscreen so you dont get burned again.

  • awesome video Swany, but are u ever gonna shave? :P the kids might say 'aa! ano gaijin wa kowaiiiiii!" lol jk

  • i've since trimmed my beard.

  • Gotta say, I liked non-facial hair swan's look much more. Whichever works though. Never been a facial hair kind of guy myself...

  • hmm, yarn? Don't really get that one... I mean if it is even supposed to be gotten:) Maybe it's a joke between you and somebody? I'm just guessing. I may be underestimating your randomness.

    Good episode! btw

  • it will make sense in the next episode.

  • love the beaver research hat

  • hahaha thank you :)

  • get that Ayanami puzzle =D

  • lol all the Yarn

  • i want a cola shock haaha

  • Cola Shock's just taste like Rum & Coke really :P they are good but...i also tried a few of those cocktail-sode type drinks he showed..J-Booze ftw!

  • Interesting, informative and as respectful as always Swan. Also, I didn't Toys R Us has it's own special bouquet...

  • not yet. perhaps later on though.

  • cool vid, dude. looks so nice there in japan! was it hard to do it? i mean move to japan and all?

  • the move itself wasn't too hard, my supervisor has really helped me out in terms of getting things set up. Hardest part has been being away from my girlfriend back home... a video on that in the coming months haha.

  • Ponyo is so creepy looking sometimes :P

Nice gundam stuff, I haven't been to toys r us in maybe 10 years :(

  • Cool! I also used to stroll around in a toy store whenever I'm in a mall and just looking in theirs toys & stuffs. Too bad though there are very few Toys R Us store here in our country... I think.

  • I haven't been to a Toys R Us for a LONG time.

  • omg they had a Snufkin doll!

    awesome video ;D

  • They have Bob's Big Boy in Japan??

  • yup haha, i was shocked to see it up north. I remember seeing it around Tokyo.. but I was not expecting one up here!

  • WoooW your so brave venturing out into the unknown. There never seem to be alot of ppl around in your vids lol. Thanks for the upload Rodge xxx

  • 4:42 I wish the Toy's Ur Us here in America were as awesome as the one in Japan:( GUNPLA FOREVER!!!!

  • Definitely.

  • What was that weird singing in the background starting around 1:50? Sounded almost demonic. :-)

  • hahah i have no idea...just very weird music playing in the toys r us :)

  • Yea, kind of a creepy moment in your otherwise pleasant video. :-)

Glad you got out of there safely. :-)

  • i'm an adult & i love Toys R Us too.

  • Ah good ol' Toys 'R Us, I haven't been to one in so long. Strange seeing one amid all the Japanese stores. It kind of sticks out because it looks exactly like the ones in the States. Hmm, now that I think about it, there is a particular smell to all the Toys R Us stores. Maybe it's the smell of plastics and lead-based paint. Btw, how do you like your part of Japan compared to Tokyo?

  • I like living in Iwate. It's pretty nice. Everything is much more spread out up here, but since I have a car now it's not too difficult to get around.

  • Nice video.

There is a Toys R Us in Morioka too.

  • you should of gotten some logos and the some 3-d puzzles.

  • It's damn nice to see you again, enjoying your life in Iwate.

Great LOL at 3:45 , one man surrounded by a shopping-mall empire. :D

  • Yay!!!! I'm glad I stayed up till 3 in the morning now! lol.
