  • I'm speechless. To think that three huge monsters can haul hundreds of thousands of TONS not lbs, TONS!!! at 70 mph!! It's just amazing.

  • I don't know how many times I have watched this, but that sum bitch just hauls balls....I get chills....wicked stuff there Junior!

  • That is just a bad ass video and a great train crew!

  • how do you know when the heritage units drive or you know what i mean but how do you know

  • That's some kick ass shit right there! That went right into favorites before it was done....wish it was longer....The video knuckle head! LOL.....

  • I really wish they would paint up some more locos in these heritage schemes, I really love the Sp colors It would be nice to see several units in the SP scheme as well as some of the others but its a nice change from U.P Yellow & Grey.

  • Wow, You caught something exotic. It is not everyday that you get to see not one but three of the heritage UP locomotives pulling a train. I have only seen UP 1988 or the MKT one.

  • The UP Heritage SOUTHERN PACIFIC (1996) was in Lloyd Yard, old town spring texas today

very nice train. it had 6 Dow Chemical Company cars

  • Well. This trio makes me remind that VINTAGE CALIFORNIA ZEPHYR, with its silver streamlined dome cars and F-LOCOS. It never transfered passengers or changed cars, only locomotives. The locomotives represent:

SOUTHERN PACIFIC ( WESTERN PACIFIC THE FEATHER RIVER ROUTE )

RIO GRANDE ( THRU THE ROCKIES NOT AROUND THEM )

CHICAGO NORTH WESTERN ( CHICAGO BURLINGTON QUINCY OR THE BURLINGTON ZEPHYRS )

What a great memory and still wishing to ride de actual CALIFORNIA ZEPHYR operated by AMTRAK.

  • awsome together doing 70mph amazing

  • this is something i would love to do

  • Great job of pacing the Heritage trio. The UP Heritage units are a thing of beauty. I would love to see CSX follow suit and do heritage units.

  • Zoom zoom

  • Superman's NOT stopping that! :)

  • I love how the UP did their Heritage schemes. I'm more of a BNSF guy and really hope they do something similar with locos of GN, NP, SP&S, Frisco and BN.

  • I just saw 1996 go through Salem, OR a few days ago! The paint job really catches your eye.

  • WOW!

  • They should have used all of the heritage units.

  • ok whos speeding the train or the car?

  • I really like the paint job on that leader. Great Catch!

  • Very nice! I can remember the old days when only passenger diesels like E's and PA's were geared to run that fast. But with today's roller bearings, welded rail and high-horsepower diesels, railroads can highball freights at passenger-train speeds. (Anybody know what UP's speed limit for freights is?)

  • @JoeRailfan 70. They go into a penalty brake application at 75 and the speedos aren't that accurate.

  • what about the missouri pacific locomotive

  • Wow That was some Heritage consist!

  • Great vid!!

Any idea how fast they were running?

  • Grrrrr... That lead loco is wearing my favorite colors... From southern Pacific...

  • beautiful video, i love that paint

  • Can you imagine the power this thing has? One of these trains could transport 300 truck trailers in half the time a trucker would take. Why the hell isnt America smart enough to further invest in railways?

  • wooow interesting schemes on those EMD's

  • @helloween1987 because those are the rare heritage set! there's 6 of em....well 6 different types and one of each in the U.S. so yea you gotta love em

  • I <3 this video

  • EMD FOREVER

  • I love the PaintJob on the Rio Grande,it's something I've never seen before,Probaly never will either...Anyway,Nice Video.

  • love it :D thumbs up!!!

  • Really enjoyed you video. I bought the MTH model of the second loco in the lashup, the one in the Rio Grande colours. Reckon I might just have to get the others in the set as the all look so good.

  • Guess we have a flat spot on a driver. Never a good thing!

  • super cool vid thanks...love the horn..

  • I like the revving sound of the DD40AX video better but these are excellent. I'm guessing that the newer 710 engines in the SD70's are quite a bit more refined than the older 645's built back in 1969 and I'm sure the sound of the revving engines is dampened a little bit more in the SD70's as well.

  • Listen to that K5LLA!!!

  • Very nice! Three different heritage units on one train! Great Catch!

  • hey great video

  • GREAT VID love the trio of heritage units nice job pacing

  • Saw this today running the point, if I didn't have other units to work would of loved to be able to go and get some pictures.

  • I would love to see UP bring back the Desert Storm Camo scheme on a SD70ACE and inlist it into the heritage program!

  • Very Cool. U can hear some of the wheels have flat spots.

  • Its nice UP decided to use three special painted trains to pull that =]

  • Brilliant, they are fine looking locos and great filmed at speed!

  • a question for train people. Why u see a loco facing forward, and the next maybe facing rear. Why is that?

  • They have that like that so if one of the trains have to head back the other way...Its already turned around for them...Some areas have WYEs or Turntables to spin them...But at times its just easier to have a loco facing forwards and one facing backwards

  • it makes it easier for a train to reverse. a single locomotive is able to move both backward and forward, but its easier for a whole train if a locomotive doesnt have to stop in order to switch from forward into reverse, or vice versa, because stopping a train and restarting it takes a good amount of time.

  • @JimboRailfan So does that mean that the one facing "backwards" here isn't needed to pull the train in the direction it's moving? That it's only there for when (if) they need to reverse? Because it seems that, if they needed it to move the train now, they'd need to take the time to change "direction" when it was necessary anyway, no?

  • It depends, I think. Sometimes it is used as additional power, and other times it is just used for when the train needs to reverse direction.

  • That's great footage. We had UP 1996 at Family Day a few years ago. It's neat watching it doing 70. Thanks for posting.

  • AWESOME!

  • thats beautiful : )

  • jesus thats just silly, id never see that in bc

  • that had to been great to see in person

  • EPIC!

  • I really love this engibne. I hope UP does this paint sceme to more of their locomotives, at least 50 of them (since UP has over 1000 engines)

  • Nice catch!

  • SD70ACe

  • tats one horn happy ass haulin train

  • looks like he saw u filming

  • awesome

  • Fantastic- great video, thanks!

  • i got to run this up 1996 last year----from west colton to yuma arizona---SP LIVES

  • nice, a Ski Train loco

  • Comment removed

  • high-balling!!!

  • Just think about how many trucks that single train is keeping off the Interstates...I Love Trains

  • doesnt get betr than that!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Freakin' Awesome!!!!

  • beautiful engines

  • That is just pure eye and ear candy. Awesome video, great job keeping up, too! =D

  • Sweeeeet!

  • i love UP 1995

  • day purdy injs

  • * 5 stars for the support.

    Yay for trains,hih \0/

  • Lovely video, something totally unfamiliar to me.

Big hunk of steel on the tracks......nice : )

One of the most civilized comment threads on these train videos,in general,by the way, thank God.

    To each their own.

    Ok gentlemen,as you were..........

    Shalom : )

  • Cool. Three of seven heritage engines. 1995 is my favorite. 'Course, CNW used to go by where I used to live.

  • Sad to say that the SD90s, which were relatively new, are going to be or have already been retired. Those gigantic machines were beauties but unfortunately the "H" series powerplant was expensive to maintain and still had some problems. Just makes me wonder why the "H" powerplants can't be removed and replaced with high horsepower 710 power systems, as on the 70 series. Seems like a terrible waste to scrap them.

  • Wish I knew more technical info about the 16V265H...=(

  • The First engine is UP1996 and the third one is UP1995...2 Different paint schemes...Pretty Sweet! Nice Video!

  • hell of a flat spot on the leader

  • Poetry in motion - I've chased the up on highway 30 in western nebraska many times and it doesn't get any better than this - I love hearing him hitting the switchpoints around 1:35 - really emphasizes the speed - great video - thanks

  • Should try passing it, stopping by the tracks and then stand just a little off of the tracks, around 5-10 feet. Feeling the ground shake is intense!

  • This is totally awesome! It is best to not overuse exclamation points. This is a case for one. Three SD70ACe Heritages on one Train in a Pace. Rock 'n' Roll.

  • Are the heritage diesels always ran together?

  • insane!! 3 SD90s...lol i want all three of those units...in HO scale!!

  • those are not SD90s those are SD70Ms

  • All speacial overland units are SD90s.....

  • These are 70aces

  • I already told im that but he doesnt seem to agree with me I was however wrong about the M part on the end they are in fact SD70Ace's told him they look like SD90s but they arent

  • I am sorry but you are wrong those are SD70ACE units they look like SD90s but they are not look them up

  • are you refering to the models or the real units

  • the models are SD90s so i thought the real ones would be to....my bad..lol

  • very cool

  • now that's some lash up!

  • Really like the SP Daylight colors on 1996... A great tribute to the fallen SP RR.....

  • I agree with you on that but I feel the UPRR should have put the correct appropriate whistles on them instead..I feel that unit would have sunded good with the right SP whistle on it

  • those engines look great

  • AWESOME!

  • Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful!!! What state is Mechanicsville in?

  • I wish other railroads would have done this. BNSF and NS especially.

  • Great Video! Still love that sound of a T710 Motor at Run8

  • Great video! I noticed that after the engineer gave the usual crossing sequence, he gave a bit of extra horn afterwards.

  • great! rare to see those!

  • wow, nice colors on them engines!!

kinda tired of orange, green n yellow

    here in wa.

  • better not let NS see you do that, I got reported by 234 a few days ago for doing the exact same thing, my friend was taping i was driving and they called the dispatcher and reported a suspicious vehicle with cameras and stuff. i hate train crews sometimes.

  • amazing...from a csx/ns guy fromm Buffalo, NY

  • 3 Sd70ACes leads a grand freight,Nice video!

  • I never understood why CHICAGO and North Western engines are painted GREEN AND GOLD.

  • It' their color scheme just like UP is Yellow and Gray and Norfolk Southern is Black and Southern Pacific was Scarlet and Gray. get It ?

  • Just saying that the colors are of Chicago`s biggest rival, Green Bay

  • I Got your joke....It's just like why are Moline John Deeres green and yellow?

    GO BEARS!

  • It's actually quite simple if you think about it...the Bears were founded in 1919, while C&NW was chartered in 1848. Did American football even exist back then?

  • wow those are nice locos! great vid!

  • Friend of mine ran this train from Boone to Mo Valley.

  • Very nice paint jobs. What kind of engines are they.

  • EMD SD70ACes

  • UP Locos in heritage paint

  • Sweet video. Very well done.

  • sweet video. sounds like the leader has a flat spot or its on jointed rail

  • 3 heritage units on the same train? Nice catch!

  • Interesting - looks as if the Espee and C&NW units have a brand new center wheelset on the rear truck.

  • i like how the horn pattern is changed with the UP heritage. it`s usually --o-, but it is now --o-o-, also, by the speed of that train, they should signalize a lot of those crossings it went over. great catch and great vid.;)

  • Dude - as far as I know its still whistle signal 14l (long-long-short-long) for grade crossings. That doesn't mean every engineer gets it right all the time though!

  • dooode what heritage engine havent u seen?

    4141?

  • Seen them all. 4141 took a while, but she eventually got over this way. Saw 3 of them when they were tarped too. 4 When they were still in primer.

  • @adam1234a UP 4141 is not a heritage unit.. its acutally going to be UP yellow before 2011 gets here.

  • Why doesnt CSX do something like this...they have a ton of predesessors!

  • Keep on truckin by train!

  • sexy

  • Ugh, give me grey and red any day. At least it's better than Amour Yellow everywhere.

  • oh, just to be out on 30 hearing those engines gearing up at 70 MPH again.......

OH WAIT! That's right. I'm coming up in January!

  • holy shit three heritage units in one fuckin consist...thats just the best thing since fuckin butter right there!...great catch!

  • boy i wish they sent this train up through Altoona ;)

  • wow 70mph?? scary fast for a freight train!

  • This would be Hyw 30

  • Hello..Very great video ! What highway did you take video with running train ?
