Awesome. The trick works because you're always placing 15 cards between the picked card and the jack. In a stack of 32 cards, a difference of 16 means binary elimination will work flawlessly. Awesome trick. :)

Explanation:

One thing we should know is that no matter how we cut the two piles, there is always going to be 15 cards between Jack and the choosen card(your pile). That is the key to the trick!

Lets test it out: You take all the cards except Jack (31 cards) and put Jack in to the pile faced up, higher up than the middle. Then, in the pile, you count up 15 cards after Jack and look at the card after that (the 16th card). That is the card that Jack will find if you start from the down down.

I like to have the volunteer pick the "culprit" card before counting out the 15 card piles. It adds a certain level of suspense, understanding, and allows the volunteer more time to study his/her card. It's also more satisfying to the volunteer knowing he/she has a larger pool of cards to choose from.

I have a marvel deck and It's cool cause they can go through the deck and pick out a "hero" Then at the end of the trick with the remaining cards they can pick out a villain he hero has to find. So it's very cool. I think they can even be the hero as long as the hero piles go on top 1st. I love the marvel deck very cool art and fun to do this trick with. Maybe I'll get a HD video up tonight and share it with you.
