I have the eldorado 1989 brittizy i love this car it is the most beauiful cadillac i've ever seen i don't believe i will see another like this model i wish cadillac would make a special remake of the 1989 EL DOG . update more features but donot change any of the styles it has
GM marketing hasn't always been the best, but this Cadillac theme song is an absolute classic piece of commercial music. They could still be using a variation of this today if they wanted. Great tune.
well you got admit the 80s wernt great for caddy but they really turned the deville around for 1989 it has traditional styling like a cady should it is pretty big 16ft long it has a dependable motor 4.5 liter v8 which are very common to exceed 250,000 miles which is very true also i drive a 89 deville and it has 120k on it and it runs and drives really good and everything is original except for the ac
You really have to give it to GM marketing in the late 1980s for successfully building up the "image" of each car line. This one was one of my all time favorite ad.
Thank you for adding and sharing! Thank you fir the notification. I placed this in my play lists. I really appreciated this. The sold a lot of cars during this era.
Hmm. From what I know, it was during the 80s that Cadillac went down the crapper due to them churning out crap like the Cimarron and the V864 engine. It wasn't until 2003 that they finally purged back from the pack with the CTS, and just now, are they recovering with the 2008 CTS, which is a huge step forward. With that, they can finally call themselves the standard of the world without getting laughed at.
During the 1989-1993 era they sold a lot of the upsized 1989-1993 Devilles and Fleetwoods. Seville and Eldorado turned around in 1992 after their redesign. The Brougham/Fleetwood still sold. Cimarron was dropped after 1988. The downsized era 1985-1988 did hurt them. The problem was the buyers( age/demographic) they had and the way the cars were marketed. Marketing is still a huge problem at GM.
Indeed that the 92 Seville STS was a huge step forward. Amen about the marketing. GM has a lot of good products, but most of them aren't doing jack shit because they are competeting with each other instead of the imports. GM has had problems for decades for marketing many different cars and brands at the same customer base.
Cadillac had the same marketing error all GM divisions had, in the 80's. They all brought out more fuel-stingy front-drive models; when the market switched back to rear-drive performance cars. In the 80's cars got the best MPG's; maybe they knew something back then. Although, most 80's cars are not known for performance.
Cadillac's misstep in the 80s was nothing more than being controlled by the greatest dumbass of all, Roger Smith. Smith preferred saving money over prestige and product. That is how he managed to destroy any and all prestige and image GM's brands had. He toppled Cadillac with half-assed products and beancounted engineering. Cadillac quickly became a joke while Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and later Lexus took Caddy down to be the Luxury market's top players.
