  • Makes me laugh every time I see it. I feel so grateful to be old enough to remember this great time of live TV.

  • @60sMODgirl if only children were so well behaved these days as they were in this video here. A time where parents got to spend more time with their children.

  • lol at 2:26 tht lil kid is funny!

  • AMAZING VOICE REALLY! where can i get this version?! i onli find the RALPH STANLEY´S VERSION, HELP!

  • I remember this song from years ago...my dad had it on an old 78 record but I do not know who sang it. Thank you for sharing this priceless performance by Tennessee Ernie Ford. It is now in my favorites :)

  • I wonder how old this is...Does anyone know what year this was from?

  • First off this clip is an absolute gem.

Second, I associate this song and Ford with my early childhood. I often listened to a "Best of" 8-track that my parents got as part of the Columbia House record club. Now in 2010 I cannot find a studio recording of this song by Ford. The only thing I can find is the audio taken from this special on a cd called " Gospel". But I don't remember the laughter in the clip or the audience clapping on the 8-track. Was there ever a studio recording?

  • @wutzernutzer There was a studio recording of him sitting on a stool for a vhs tape singing Children Go Where I Send Thee.

  • @bobbysprayer Thanks but as luck would have it I found a studio recording! I just happened to be looking at Rhapsody's free trial and they had it. It's on Ford's C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S album which I am guessing never made it on CD. Now that album came out in 1971 but the recording sounds much older. In any case I'm glad I found it!

  • @wutzernutzer Yes there was a studio recording of this song. It was on a 1971 album titled C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S. That album is no longer in print, but the song was released again on a CD in 1999 that was titled Tennessee Ernie Ford - Christmas Favorites. Not sure if it's still in print, but you should be able to find a copy on Amazon or eBay.

  • Remember all the shows were filmed and done live back then, so you have to just keep going and hope for the best, but it turned out great.

  • He had a wonderful voice.

    Thank you for posting this.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • I actually had a dream last night about this song. It was interesting, maybe a vision!

Great song, great kids, great Tennessee Ernie Ford!

  • Absolutely fantastic! Thanks for sharing this!

  • I love that Ernie was trying not to laugh! This makes me laugh!

  • amazing!

  • I just LOVE this video. The monkey kid could be my husband Tony!!!

  • I love Ernie's gesture at 1:42. My mom knew Ernie Ford when she was at VA Intermont in Bristol. She thought he was absolutely wonderful.

  • lol! I remember hearing this at gospel in church and I loved it

  • the 'loco in the cabeza' is beyond funny. so fun too watch!

  • No matter how many times I have watched this tape I cannot help but to laugh. This is priceless. How Ernie could continue to see with out laughing is beyond me. I love it

  • love how his face changes

    just knowing what is coming

  • We have 2 sons & we had this song when they were little on a Christmas album--they had the same entusiasm as this little boy but they were free to move and being preschoolers they just ran is circles! lol Thanks for posting!

  • I like Tennessee Ernie Ford. He was a good actor too, especially when he played on I Love Lucy.

  • That is so cute..... Ernie Ford was a blessed talent.

  • love this!

  • LoL...Ernie did a great job just making it through that song!

  • The good ole days too bad people aren't as good these days

  • @liztrot People ARE as good these days! We only SEE and HEAR about BAD politicians, sports figures, actors, etc. But good people are there, and they will be there to pull America back from this disaster being caused by a hijacked gov't.

  • Live television was the best. LOL!

  • What fun - thanks for sharing this! Loved him singing and the family just adds to the warmth :)

  • THis is one of the funniest and cutess video clips I've ever seen. I never knew till now that that little boy is Ernie's son as stated in a comment I just read. I watched Ernie's TV show many yearsago, he sang beautifully and also was hilarious on an episode of an "I Love Lucy Show" He was a great entertainer.

  • I can well remember when The Tennessee Ernie Ford Show was a "must-watch" for my parents. One clip that I wish someone could find and post was the skit he did with Charlie Weaver. Charlie brought a cow out on the stage and they milked her to the tune of "The Blue Danube Waltz". Ernie lost it, the cow looked around at him and lowed, and both Ernie and Charlie lost it.

  • This is funny....that little kid is hilarious! And the kid that hits the other kid...hehe

  • As it turns out, the little boy is Ernie's son Brion.

  • I love this video..I think I remember seeing it live when I was a kid. My mom loved Ernie Ford. He used to DJ at parties at her college, Virginia Intermont in Bristol. And all the girls thought he was wonderful.

  • i love this song and that little boy is so cute

  • Oh my goodness ... I love the little boy in this video. So funny!

  • Great video! I was doing genealogical research last month, and discovered that Tennessee Ernie was a sixth cousin. That got me interested in his music. Love this song and other good videos of him on-line.

  • I love it! Had to watch it again because it's so cute!

  • Adorable and funny! :)

  • This little kid is great. Got rhythym deep in his soul.

This can put a smile on anyone's face.

  • @elsangrecaliente That's what I thought too!

  • @elsangrecaliente that little kid is ernie's son, brian.

  • hahhaha

  • Loved the little kid's mean-muggin'!!! We sang this song in school too, -but songs like this are no longer allowed in our Public Schools, because Educators and the NEA have declared that Morality and Faith and such have no place in the classroom. -As it does not sit well with the gay lesbian agenda they are forcing upon the children LOL!

  • i sang this song in my 5th grade choir and my heart bwill go on

  • I love Tennessee Ernie Ford, a voice like no other. But his son is equally entertaining. ;)

  • lol

  • just adorable ~! shows the "love" he shares not only with his child, but, is shared with all of the children ~!

  • great video, made me smile !!!

  • I have no idea how Ernest (his real name) got through this song without breaking down laughing. I wouldn't have made it through the second chorus.

  • Born drummer. Buy him a set!!!

  • Can watch this over and over again! It's precious! Love it!

  • OMG !!! TOOOOO FUNNY !!!! LOVED IT !!!

  • ha ha...his son is so hilarious!

  • I've seen this one before! SO Funny...but I ♥ Tenessee Ernie's singing.

  • Molto bello!!!

  • Nothing like a great song and a bit of humor to put you into the Christmas spirit!

    Excellent post.

  • The boy was feeling the spirit. The girl next to him looks like a young Minnie Pearl....."How-deeeeee!"

  • This has got to be the funniest video I have ever watched in my life, and I am truly olderngod!!!! Thank you for a real belly laugh!!!

  • I would REALLY like to know what that little boy grew up to be? Had his own band, maybe???

  • Kt2, I have been told that this little fellow is the SON of the man singing, And that he DID sing too later on.

  • Thanks SO much for getting back. Well, isn't that a hoot! I'll have to try and see what else I can find out. Thanks again, and Merry Christmas!!!

  • That little boy was Tennessee Ernie Ford's youngest son, Brion. He died from lung cancer in 2008.

  • @memoriesofschool3

I think the other boy must be his older son, Jeffrey or Buck as we know him. Buck is a riot. Met him at ChristyFest.

  • he grew up to be an entertainer and a wonderful man. Sadly he passed away on Oct.24,2008

  • A friend sent me this and it made my day!!! Poor Ernie Ford tries so hard to keep it together when all the while that little kid is reeeaaally into the music, LOL. Then it all collapses when the other little boy just gets up and leaves the scene!! So precious!! AND tons of fun to watch! :)

    What a voice!!!!

  • Not poor. Ernie Ford was loving it because that is his son that was reeaaally into the son.

  • REALLY?? I meant poor as in " trying to stay on focus and not losing it" because you can tell he has a hard time keeping from laughing at times, LOL. I just loved it! ;)

  • @owlet1963 Thanks for sharing :-)

  • you are welcome Iain, I hope you had a lot of fun watching it, lol

  • LOL! Oh yeah,I was just looking and glad I found this at last! I saw this blooper style vid awhile back on tv and thought it was hilarious!

    Thanks for posting this.

  • I can't stop watching this lovely video!!! Thank you @bobbysprayer!

  • yes he would be sad, but that has nothing to do with God, nor the things right now... like i said, i just didn't like this piece of the comment: " wicked and evil, time is short, The Lord Jesus is coming back." That has nothing to do with the video... that's all i'm saying. We all know things are in very bad shape right now, you don't to remind it to us after watching such loving video. Peace out.

  • I loved this video too, but come on! don't make a comment about sinners and an apocalypses about to come. This is about Joy and Love. Don't turn this into a religious debate. PLEASE

  • that little kids jammin

  • I first heard this song only 12 or so years ago. my son, around 4 years old, danced his heart out. If I can find video I'll post it. Love this video, thanks for posting!

  • that is is hillarious

  • This kid has great rhythm! Tennessee's voice is rich!

  • Aw.......I Gotta Sing This For Chorus This Year......

  • That had to be the Holy Spirit moving that little darling!

  • I recorded this clip from a Bloopers show that Dick Clark hosted. Donny Osmond introduced the clip. I thought this was hilarious so I saved it. I still watch it from time to time. Love it!

  • Hilarious I think. Blooper no. Unexpected but that was normal behavior for his son. The difference between Tennessee Ernie Ford and Donny Osmond is that Tennessee's show and family is casual and very acceptable to such behavior while Donny Osmond and the rest of the Osmonds were very strict about going by the script- even their jokes about what was supposed to be off the script was pre-written and rehearsed. The Osmonds were so busy in their own business they did not have that knowledge of Ford

  • @bobbysprayer gotta love live television!!!

  • @nancy75218

Every new media is most interesting in its formative days: radio, TV, Internet, etc.

Especially rock and roll! Once things get corporate and slick, all spontaneity is gone and every moment is scripted. So it's great to have moments like this in circulation again.

  • This made my day

  • Sooo funny!

  • Just goes to prove the old adage "never do a scene with children or animals they'll always upstage you!" LOL the little boy doing a hambone to the music, the little girl getting into it, the one boy doing the "he's crazy' sign and the other little boy getting up and walking away. Classic. Thanks for posting.

  • This is their FAMILY where kids are ALWAYS welcome no matter what they do.

  • Too funny and cute.

  • hahaha!

  • Delightful video, bringing joy and laughter to many souls daily. In 1980 I was staying at the Hall of Fame Motot Inn in Nashville. I thought I heard the voice of Tennessee Ernie coming from the lounge. I stepped in to see, and found that the young man entertaining solo with guitar was Ernie's son. I think his name was Brion. OH! What talent, rhythm and a voice like his father's! I just had to sit down and listen. What a treat to see him here as a little boy!

  • I love little brion's reaction

  • The man with the golden voice.

  • Ha ha that kid was so funny

  • This is my first intro to Ernie Ford, he has a wonderous voice that is strong yet soothing, plus this is the best rendition of this song eva!

  • boy that kid is really digging this tune.

    lol

  • Loved it! His son reminds me of my boy Joshua at that age.

  • What a fantastic voice.

  • This is all too funny omg u can tell he is trying to be discreet about his son LOL and not like yell or make a scene...and hahaha the expression on his face when he sings near the end he is like "OMG this kid..." LOL

  • Love that little rascal. He is having a great time. Wonder what happened to the little fellow.

  • That rascally little fellow was Brion Ford, youngest son of Tennessee Ernie Ford.

Brion passed away in October 2008 from lung cancer.

  • How sad. I can't count how many times I have watched this video. I love it...

  • He grew up to be a wonderful gracious man. Sadlyy he passed away on Oct.24,2008

  • This is hilarious! That little boy cracks me up! LOL!!!

  • I grew up watching "Old Ern". Great voice & wonderful personality. Thanks for posting this marvelous video!

  • This was a great man..and these children are priceless..

  • Great old song and priceless watching the kids, especially his son who obviously has show biz in his genes!

  • That litte dude has great rhythm.

    Absolutely precious!

  • river of no return, great bio!!

  • that boy on his right is so sweet!

  • that boy is his son. like father like son.

  • Bobby Sprayer, Thank you for having wonderful and joy full video's like this one for shut in's like myself.

It brought me laughter and good tears. This is wonderful to be able to be entertained for nothing...People like myself can't afford to go out and pay. Thanks for bringing a blessing on here.. Wendy from Michigan

  • Wendy That delights me. I am not a shut in at least not yet. But I am from Michigan and one of my dearest friends is named WEndy. I was actually too young to be allowed to watch TV when Tennesee Ernie Ford did that program, but I listened from my bedroom. His version of the song goes through my head from time to time but I never saw the video. Glad you enjoyed it. I did. Mary from Michigan

  • Mary, Thanks for responding to me...I too live in Michigan. I love things that lift people up...So many hurting people...I pass on all these goodies, I have a ministry with sending out emails to many people and this one made alot of people smile really big.. Sincerely Wendy from Michigan

  • Thanks for your response. I could not agree more. I posted the video on Facebook, and three people have picked up on it already. My cousing in California said that Ernie lived near him at one time. I wonder what happened to Brian. I could only find that he died in 2008.
