In my opinion, Jolin sang the song better than Utada.

First Love is a very emotional love song about how the girl is broken into pieces and is crying out for her first love. Of course, Utada sang the song brilliantly, smoothly, with no faults. But I wasn't touched. Maybe because it was too perfect, techniquely.

Whereas, Jolin sing this song with high ranges(pitches). Gives the song a personality. A bittersweet tone which is just so right for first love.

Hey, she isn't Japanese, it's not easy to learn fluent Japanese unless youre born one. 1.) This recording wasn't mixed very well for whatever reason

2.) Jolin is singing in languages she is far from being fluent in

3.) This is not recorded in a studio setup for recording music.

The song was the kind of song that everyone probably sang in ktv; in other setups, jolin probably could have done much better. it's a shame that this time around was so great.

First Love was Hikki right at the age of 15. In my review, Jolin tried to catch up Hikki but she's didn't make it. She can't compare to our Hikki.
