  • This is just messed up how can this song wasn't even made at the time it's considered new ,plus that's some pathetic belly dancing .. the director could have made this scene magical but he just screwed it .. oh well -sighs-

  • hahahaha this song is very new to that time loooooooooooooooooooooool and the dancing has nothing to do with the beat of the song or the words lol

  • @h7inno i agree with u,,, was not a good song for this century ...

  • she's not a very good oriental dancer.

  • @lilisoo2009 she was pregnant at that momement :P

  • Orientalism rocks!!

  • so unenlightenment

  • hehehe it's a newly made song , and you didn't see the real belly dance lol :D

  • Look very nice, BUT its, Arabic song in contemporary style "shaaby" by Haakim and in the movie it must be indian dance and music, lol, for western people its sounds the same, I guess, so unprofessional for high end movie production, no cultural education what so ever...just pretty, pretty, pretty

  • هههههههههههههههههههههههههههههه اجل السلام عليكم اغنية من العصور الوسطى هههههههه افرح ياحكيم من قدك

  • looooooooooool this is a joooooke i mean whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat u choose hakeeeeeeeeem and for god sake this song was a bout a few years ago and this movie is auppose to be in the 1815 this is just too funny and even the music wasn't that old i mean really what was that all aboutttttt

  • bad choice of music !!! 7akeeeem wasnt born at that time! ;\

  • HAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, that music wasnt even at that time!!!!!!

and that by all means is NOT belly dancing......HAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAAAAAA

and dont get me wrong im not critisizing reese witherspoon, i mean she's a gr8 actress and wat she did was good, but its just HILARIOUS how all these other back-up belly dancers dance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Alquien sabe el nombre de la cancion?

can somebody tell me the name of the song?

    U-U porfavor, please

  • salam alaykum by hakim

  • GRACIAS=)

  • @IBarrettI Es la que dice RanjiniN

  • @IBarrettI Hakim - Ansa Azabi ^^

  • @IBarrettI

the name of the song is el slam alykom by hakiim

he is Egyptian singer and that song in arabic languge called el slam alykom which means hello

  • @IBarrettI el salamo alaykom means peace on you :D

  • Know what? The first British man saw a professional belly dancer in mid 1800's for the first time. Before then they had only seen the prostitute wannabes in lower taverns. So no idea what the Professionals would do before then. So with that in mind I think this scene is fantastic! Demure, yet extremely risque in the period it is meant for.

  • This was the most ridiculous scene of the entire movie, imho. Like I could continue watching it seriously after seeing this... Gawd.

  • totally agree! Britney spears at a 18th century english court! Haha!

  • I LOVE THIS SCENE...and the music is amazing...

  • that's nothing!

  • For the people who said this is a bad coreography: What did you expect English women in the 17th century dance like? It was already shocking they took their clothes off.

I think its beautiful, its perhaps a more demure interpretation but still pretty good. .

  • Yes, it's totally unprofessional from the way of dancing, they should know how to dance on this song before using it. even though the clothes matches the song and dancing on it.

  • lolz Hakim was a great star on 18th century. Well the dance is not right, BUT i have to say that in a few moments are "reading" the song> I mean hip dorps or smooths moviments just like the music asks, it's a posisitive thing among the wrong ones.

  • LOL thts a new song it's nt an old song LOL !!

  • they also trying to make it look like the indians are saying ''assalamu alaykum'' and thats arabic 2 different langauges so basically they are trying to say in this movie these hindis are speaking arabic to a modern 21st century song cause they lipsynch to it.

  • What's the name of this song???

  • el salam

  • tha name of that song is el salam alekom for hakeem ... the egyptian singer who sang with james brown

  • Song: Salam Alaikoom

    Singer: hakim

Album: You can find it on Bellydance Superstars Vol I

  • i can't understand why she's doing an indian dance to an arabic song...

also this song doesn't really fall into the context of the movie because the mocies is set a long time ago and the song is relatively recent...

  • I think that they wanted to show that in the UK, and in that time, they were just out for entertainment. I don't think this was by accident, because the director is from India, but you bring up a great point!!!!

  • yes i found this so unprofessional and even the Arabic song doesn't meaning isn't prefect match with the movie

  • THANK YOU I KNOW

they are trying to pass it off as hindi and i dont think Hakim was alive to write el salamo alaykom LOL for 18 century.

  • its nice but a bad arabic song to dance to LOL the arabic meaning isn't good in this context

  • bellissimo ......up' troppo avanti come coreografia visto l' epoca in qui e' ambientato il film :-)

  • Divaaa Reeseee!!!!

    I love this scene <<<333

  • we as Arab have a lot of things to add or to talk about on Hollywood films more than such song and the dancing!!

  • at 1:41 it looks like they are but raping each other

  • love the song.. ... i found it funny tthat they picked this song but the lyrics of the song go with the movie..

  • I would love to know what the song is saying in English.. where can I find the lyrics translated?

  • Wardrobe did an amazing thing on this movie! especially when you consider reese was pregnant during filming! inmagine her belly growing everytime! and you have to keep adjusting her costume so her belly won't show to much!

  • i diddn't know reese can dance like that....!!!!!!

  • It doesn't make sense that a 21th century Arabic Hakim song used in a movie that has a 18th century theme and story...

couldn't they use an instrumental Arabic or Turkish song?just music?

    that's the producer's and the director's fault

  • I agree with you and another thing, this is an arabic song and arabic style dance but it was India that was under British rule at the time, so wrong country.

  • I love this song...

  • with a film you can basically do anything. its art for goodness sakes. the film is what it is because the creator of the film chose to visualise it in that way. i dont think its any way meant to be historical.

  • this song is for an Egyptian artist called Hakim, and as I remmember it was prodused in 2003 or 2004, you can find the full version in this link (watch?v=i4k6k7l11O0)

and by the way why the fuck do people mix between indian and arabian cultures, they are totaly different.

  • Very good point but this version of Vanity Fair was directed by Mira Nair (who is Indian).

  • i hardly trying to see the DANCE in these movements......but alas!

  • Hakim-El Salam

It took me YEARS to find that song but its great to belly dance to.

  • why did they use HAKIM'S song in an 18/19th century movie ... this song appeared in Egypt about 1990 .... i mean its a major cultural and historical fact that this movie makers actually think that Arabs or Indians whomever these people are used to sing a pop Egyptian arabic accent song in the 18th century....

  • I'd say the same thing!

But this song was out in 2003 or 2004, when the movie took place in the 18/19th century. There are lots of better songs to put in this clip that represented the culture back then. I liked the movie but this has ruined it for me.

Besides this song isn't THAT famous or liked!

  • if you actually read the book vanity fair you will find out that in that period of time in england they were very influenced by anything Indian because they had just acquired it as a colony. the English lords and ladies thought it was very fashionable to mix the indian culture with theirs.

  • indian. but not arabic. these cultures are diffrfent

  • guys plzzzzzzzzz can someone upload the movie :(

  • Perhaps they were going for a Moulin Rouge effect? It's a pretty unrealistic scene anyway, historically speaking.

  • not just historically speaking... I'm sure NO ONE would have danced THAT infront of thee king.

  • they werent dancing infront of the king... they were dancing infront of the lords.... and anyways... im not going against your critical views.... coz you are entitled to say whatever you want.... what am just trying to voice out.. coz if you only have seen the movie you will see why they have the arabic or egyptian accent here...

  • Why on earth would they have a contemporary Egyptian pop song in a period film? It makes no sense.

  • Agreed. I guess they figured it had a nice beat and hoped no one would recognise it XD

  • the song is SALAM ALEIKUM, from Hakim, an egyptian singer. the song is one of my favourites....it's great!

  • vanity fair movie

  • trovata!! hakim-salam aleikoum

  • What you hear is the famous Egyptian singer Hakim, singing: 'Esalamu alaykum' (I've seen it spelt loads of different ways, but then of course it's from the Arabic script.)

I understand it is a greeting commonly used between Muslims and means 'Peace be upon you.'

    Hakim, I love you!

  • he's not that famous!

  • actually he is.. do u live in the middle-east?

  • yes I am. Can you compare him to hmmm lets see, Amr Diab, Tamer Hosney, Ragheb Allamah, etc.

He's just a famous "local" egyptian singer (sha3bi), to us Midlle Easterns (non- egyptians) he's just as Sa'ad Al Sogayar, and even Sha'ban Abdil Raheem.

  • I'm not saying he's not famous, I'm just saying he's not THAT famous

  • I've lived in the Middle East all my life and I have to agree with you. However, this song is awesome and I'm thrilled Mira Nair picked it for the film.

  • I love the music!

  • come si kiama questa canzone?? what's the name of this song??

  • Try looking up "El Salam" by: Hakim...if you cannot find "Esalamu Aleykum"

  • I like the song but what is it

  • Oh my god, I understood what they've said in Spanish ! It isn't difficult at all !

  • hey does any1 know the name of the arabic song ive heard it be4 somwhere...its a recent song

  • it could be called "salam malekum" (arabic greeting), that's what they say a lot of times during the song!

  • y the heck is it not in english?!?!?!?

  • learn spanish, and you'll understand (not EVERYTHING in the world is in English dear.....get used to it)
