@dluuc Things have become more competitive lately. But I still don't think you're going to do a great deal better on a full bath, especially if it's from scratch. Although I am willing to try if anyone would like a free estimate.
6,000 is insane. With the price of material today and the cut throat construction cost ( in chicago) that's too much money. Plus your using prices from 4-5 years ago when the economy was crazy. You can finish a basement bathroom for much cheaper, using licensed and reputable contractors.
The question was asked, "How is $6000 affordable. I accidentally removed the question, but it was a good one so I answer it in the two below messages.
The answer is all about comparisons. The average cost for a 50 square foot bathroom using three mid-range fixtures runs about $11,000 in our region. Now compared to a do-it-yourself type homeowner, $6000.00 is a lot, especially if that weekend warrior is determined to keep their materials cost below the average of $2,300 for the above-mentioned bath.
If comparing a licensed and reputable contractor to an unlicensed individual, there's often a difference in affordability. But unfortunately, performing home improvement in the state of Maryland without a license is illegal and so this comparison begins as an apples and oranges comparison. Thats why I tell my customers we dont complete with non-licensed individuals.
Materials/labor costs-taken from the Home Tech Remodeling and Renovation Cost estimator of 2005 for Maryland 2, 3rd Quarter.
