Ironically, Siskel ended up the bigger Jim Carrey fan of the two. He liked all the Carrey movies that Ebert did plus The Cable Guy, and he was a lot nicer to the Ace Ventura sequel than Ebert.
One good thing that came out of Siskel's death (may he R.I.P) is that he doesn't have to deal with the garbage that we get these days. I mean if he thought Jim Carrey was over the top and annoying, I think his head would explode if he had to see: Will Farrell (who i like most times), Jack Black (who I like but Siskel would hate), Seth Rogan (who I liked twice but ever since I wanna just punch him in the face), and Zach Galifianakis (who, if you like.... you're dead to me)
I didn't like the Ace Ventura movies either---if he'd kept doing crap like that, there would've been no "Truman Show" or "Man On The Moon" on his resume'.He would've ended up doing Adam Sandler-produced sh*t.
He WAS perfect for this role,as imperfect as whatsisname was for that half-assed sequel.
Cameron Diaz looked so hot in this movie...it's a shame she became anorexic or something and got weirdly skinny in every other movie. Still cute...but nothing like she was in this movie.
@AL13NM . i agree it is very depressing because you are so ignorant. yes they are movie critics, but the whole point of the show is two movie critics talking and arguing with eachother about movies they saw. thats why the show was so successful for over 25 years! get it?
@SparksDrinker You obviously have limited cognitive abilitys to the point of being disabled.First you mistake who my comment is for then you insult me because I disagree with you and then argue that insulting one another is the same as having differing opinions on the same topic. You are so transparent it is pathetic. You are lonely and need attention and the only way you can get it is to start arguments with strangers and insult them.Do the world a favor and hang yourself this holiday.
@AL13NM . being disabled and having limited cognitive abilities are two totally different things, your insult made no sense. i notice you didn't challenge my point, because you know i'm right. the whole point of the show is for these two highly regarded critics to argue their opinions. stop embarrassing yourself.
@TheRealCritique I agree. When I first saw this, I remember hearing men in the audience actually gasp when she appeared on screen. I know I did. Now, she's too skinny and too much a Hollywood type.
The mask was the best movie of the 90's. I just loved the character, his powers, how over the top he was. If someone said i'll give you any power i'd say give me the masks powers.
Wow. Cameron diaz was only marginally attractive when she started. Hmmm... And now that all the human bits are melting off her face she's becoming some sort of supernatural plastic-humanoid.
I gotta say tho, that I like the comic more. Sadly, Dark Horse comics movies were poison in the 90's, such as Tank Girl (although I don't know if TG is Dark Horse) and Barb Wire, which are atrocious.
This film is still entertaining tho. I'll give it that. SFX are a tad dated tho. But they were still in infancy then, and are mighty impressive.
No one else could of pulled of the mask role other than jim carrey.
