There are very few singers that have the ability to make "every cell of your body" feel it when they sing a song. One is Mario Lanza and the other is Robert Goulet. Thank goodness there are still records not just of their brilliant voices, but of the heart and magnetism they exuded!!!
My mother saw the original cast on Broadway the year it opened. Said the she has never seen scenery and back drops, and costumes as beautiful ever since.
Enough of treating Robert Goulet as some kind of smirky punchline-I don't know ANY singer living, dead or unborn who could ever sing this song better.
This is my favorite version of the song taken from the Broadway cast album. Goulet was just getting his career under way and was in his prime. There is only one Lancelot and his name was Robert Goulet.
I love this song......my mom (who passed away back in 2008) also loved it......when I was a kid, they would play this song in the Ice Follies when one of the male skaters had a segment and each female skater (there were four) represented a specific season and had beautiful costumes......those were the days........ :-)
I remember hearing this very recording on a phonograph record (no visual, at all)when I was a little kid (pre-kindergarten), and asking my parents if the man singing was a KING!!! Now that I'm grown, Mr. Goulet's voice still strikes me as the voice of royalty -- powerful and lavishly rich, and supreme quality from beginning to end.
This is my favorite version of Robert Goulet's signature song. He was just getting his career launched and was in his prime. Nice to see some photos of Camelot as I was unable to see the play. Thanks for posting this beautiful video.
