  • the whole song's like six words, but so, so fucking poignant.

  • Whoa, VF videos int the future. This was like 1994, I forgot they still existed. This was their last good album. When Birds Sing.

  • I use to be happy to. today i feel like i want to kill you all.

  • sad lovely love songs

  • I find this song interesting. It shows Gano's growing interest in symphony but it has the classic Violent Femmes style.

I'm so glad I never saw this video before.

Brian Ritchie is dressed like a 90s female bassist. I have no idea if that's meant to be ironic or not.

  • finally. one of the songs I was actually looking for : D

listen. but better off closing eyes...

  • What a great great GREAT band!

  • Brian Ritchie's mullet is inexcusable.

  • lol - i like how he flicks his mullet back at 1:42

  • and with a poncho to boot :)

  • @Dinnerisruined ... so true, it is an offence. Thankfully in the day's I played their albums, there was no internet, and little to read/see about them. Just the music and their vinyl album covers for reference - it was probably for the best. .

  • wow,the memerys..but that was before...

  • which as become now

  • this band is so much better live

  • What an awesome house!

  • First off, there is NO BIGGER BAND, secondly, what a great song, femmes, form and function.....

  • ...this is an excellent example of a perfect simple functional lyric

that lyrics say everything without to be redundant actually

    and melody

    pretty difficult to achieve that

  • why should he leave a great band?

  • Brian Ritchie (Bass) has done some solo work. * 1987 - The Blend * 1989 - Sonic Temple & Court of Babylon * 1989 - Sun Ra - Man from Outer Space * 1990 - I See a Noise * 2004 - Shakuhachi Club NYC

  • Brian and Victor are also playing on a Moe Tucker CD. I can't find the date but it must have been in the beginning of the 90s. And Moe Tucker is timeless anyway and so are the violent femmes.

  • Obviously, you are totally unfamiliar with them...

  • Love this song

  • Such an underated bass player.

  • I agree.

  • Maybe not, "Violent Femmes" was a musical gem and Brian Ritchie was part of it.

  • @Doyle5446

such an underated band... like most of the good ones, nowadays...

  • Is That BRIAN RITCHIE with a Mullet? I love him, he inspired me to actually play a bass as an instrument rather than a foundation.

  • I love this song. Can anybody who is more musical than me please post what chords are used?

  • D, A, Bm, G, and Em. now just play around with it to get it right. :]

  • I have been looking for this song for so

    fucking long!!

  • Distance brings perspective.

  • i think gordon is so fucking......hot

  • @PrettyHateMachine I always had a thing for Gordon... and his Jesus songs, and his sad songs, and his crazy songs, and...well, you get it. The 3 of them together was sheer genius.

  • Always loved this song...heart-wrenching lyrics/sound...always thought this "late era" Femmes song was very under appreciated.

  • I agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Gano always looks so insane. So cleancut and so insane.

  • I am the Sun

  • i am still not happy i am waiting for ella jnps

  • I used to be happy.

  • One of my favorite songs ever. Thank you so much for posting this ... cheers!!

  • Awesome Video

  • Great song. I'm so excited to see the video for this!

  • Love this song, I am a big VF fan.
