  • i enjoyed thia, i married a foster from rocky mount.

  • I love being from Virginia. These people are my ancestors. I'm of Scot/Irish decent.

  • Real nice video, bringing back lots of old memories. I spent all my summers growing up in Meadows of Dan, and my sister used to be a waitress in the Restaurant serving those great tasting pancakes. Once I was even "given" a bath in the sluice guiding the water to the Mill, maybe thats why I like hot showers so much.

  • Oh, I can't tell you how much I loved seeing this.....This and Mt. Mitchell have always been our fav. stops on the Parkway. And to share, my man loves the Sullivan Sisters and has a couple of their cd's as he also plays gospel bluegrass in the Fredericksburg/King George/Caroline County, VA area. We are particularly fond of Graves Mountain - also a great area to learn to appreciate the beauty of VA and the Blue Ridge.

  • FANTASTIC video. Thanks for sharing the part of America some people don't apprciate. Don't keep it a secret. This country was settle by those who were never faint hearted, but willing to sacrifice after haveing been shackeled by Europeona Class society that was less than geteel! They were hearty immigrants who came to bring not take from a country that was bless by God. It's up to us keep it!! Freedom is never FREE.

  • I haven't been there in years. I miss going there.

  • thanks for sharing !:D

  • samuel balsley elizabeth,s husband was a blacksmith on the mountain.he probably worked at the mabry mill.

  • i have a special attachment to the mountain,my family history is on the mountain.they have records of every family that lived up on the mountain as we call it.if you need help researching your families i will be glad to help.the docents have the records and will copy them if the records aren,t too lengthy.aunt orleana puckett delivered my ancestors children.elizabeth jane page&samuel balsley lived on the mountain and are buried there.

  • as a kid my grandfather worked at the mill during the summer and I have a lot of fond memories of that place and also where the Dan River Queen was docked

we spent alot of days fishing on that bank , My moms side of the family were Cockrams

  • nice video,im just off the parkway in carroll co. Va....thanks for the ride,my grandpa told me about 30 yrs. ago, that if some1 was sentenced to hard labor in prison, they beat boulders into rocks building this great 45mph road to really see some of God's beautiful work..may God bless you & yours...

  • Thanks for the history, I bet that prison labor built much of what we vacation on nowadays

  • you're very welcome, there has been a joke about the parkway around here as long as i know of...,did you know the parkway was disappearing,(cause when people go up there, they get a piece)lol...have a blessed day...

  • I remember places like this... 5*

  • Hey Dan I'm really glad that I ran across your videos. They are excellent in every aspect. You took me right back to when I was a kid in the late 60's traveling with my Mom & Pop. We always took the Skyline Drive & Blue Ridge Parkway when vacationing to see family in Yadkin Valley NC. Some of my fondest memories are of Mabry Mill. We have pics of our family (there were 7 kids) playing around the mill stream and pond. Thank you for posting.

This ones for CL Doc Johnson Sr. R.I.P.

    Miss ya Pop.

  • Thank You so much tjbigdog,

your comment is one of our absolute favorites. We love having and making memories with family and it sounds like you have quite a few great ones yourself. We'll leave this video up as long as YouTube lets us, hopefully forever, so you can go back to Mabry Mill anytime you wish. We just came from seeing the Frescos over in W. Jefferson. Is that still in the Yadkin?

  • hi tj, did ya'll ever go to the Dan River Queen,it was an old steam boat, that was near Maybry Mill in Meadows of Dan,Va...i've also got alotta memories from the parkway & the mill....have a blessed day...

  • Thanks for all your video's!

I really like American history and it has

always been a dream of mine to go to the

United States and see it for myself.

I'm hoping i will go there in a few years.

Keep up the good work! Greeting from Holland.

  • Thank You so much TorsoFok,

We hope you get to come over someday, Traveling is great here in the south of the USA

  • I love watching your videos Dan. The elkmont Ghost town is the greatest. I was finally able to show my friends who weren't "outdoorsy" why I love Elkmont so much. Thank you for your wonderful scenes!

  • guys, check out my TUTORIAL on how to add video annotations!

  • HI! Loved your video. My husband and I love travelling the BRP. We have almost finished the whole parkway. Still have Skyline Drive to do and the last part in NC to finish. It is beautiful. We are in Danville so Mabry Mill is not that far from us. So we go there several times a year to visit. And we have also eaten at the gift shop next door. They do have really good food. If you are looking for dessert theres a place in Meadows of Dan that has awesome Rice Pudding!!!

  • Great Video. We were up there a few years ago. We never got to spend much time at any one place, but figured they must have had to been more than we saw. My wife was in a hurry all she could think of was gettingg to the Outer Banks of N.C.. We had 2 weeks to do everything in. I got 4 days in the mountains then the rest she got at the Outer Banks. See my videos at idiot49..

  • Thanks PalluxMO

Thats odd, I suppose they only play in the US, thanks for the insight. I guess that makes sense.

  • Hey Dan, I don't see any ads with your videos. They are only shown to the US public.

  • Great, professional video. Lovely to look at and instructional. But to derive wait your turn from turn bag is surely putting the cart before the horse? (The Ranger, not the filmmaker of course).

  • Wow, thanks for saying "Professional" that means much to the editor (Me)

My guess is since your from the old country you have a different origin for wait your turn? I would love to hear it?

    Thanks again

  • A few years back we went to Lost River Cave in Kentucky. The guide we had was awesome. Very funny and well versed. A good guide can make the difference between just another site seeing trip and a great trip into the past.
