but i have got a few comments that said -about me- ''YOU need to be openminded about bay's movie you -enter swear word-'' why must i be openminded if the director hates the original? why must i be openminded about bay's movie, if the people who say that to me think G1 was just a toy commercial with the same plot in every ep? why? thats what i mean with ''openminded director'' i WAS openminded...he never was,
You're probably thinking of something different, but I'd say that the "enjoy the movie no matter what" attitude is best represented by an f-word that ends with "ascist". *lol*
Are they still having trouble seeing that every other TF fan has embraced a LOT MORE than G1 over the years? If Bayformers can't be swallowed, there is something seriously flawed with it.
''ascist'' works to, bit extreem for a movie however, right. if i can enjoy Beastwars. witch had a gorilla Optimus, or even Beastmachines to a point. and i can enjoy the new comics. then this movie REALLY did something wrong. its a poor made movie, its so bad im almost happy they DIN'T use the source material. a G1 Bumblebeep peeing? a G1 Ironhide jumping over a woman for no good reason? G1 Prime a wimp? the Ark story in THIS movie? ''nonsence-movie by Michael Bay'' MAXIMIZE!!
I'm openminded enough. A part of me would have LOVED to see Transformers The Movie from '87 again in live action. But while this animation looks sweet, it isn't realistic enough to pass for anything better than a fully-CGI movie.
If they DID manager to make the old look passable on film, the blockiness of it all would severly hinder poseability, and the action scenes would have been shite.
then update the G1 blocky look so it is possible. what bay did wasn't an update, they now look nothing like Transformers. it is possible to update it without loosing what a tf is. (don't forget the script etc) the G1 designs were based on toys, they updated them for a 2d show. this movie should have updated those designs for a 3d cgi movie.
What would you imagine robots who came to our planet and assumed local vehicle shapes to look like? you can't update something for a movie when it would look nigh improbable. the reason they look how they do is simple: realism. that isn't fanboy in either leaning way. that's fact.
do i wish they made them look more familiar, sure, the kid in me wants that. but transformers is all about change. what fun is it if it's all the same?
they can be realistic and still look like Transformers, no Bionacle etc. all this movie is saying is how stupid the original was and then makes a Terminator meets Corkey movie. how do robots from another planet look like? in the tf universe they look all blockey. whats next? Batman is a real bat because thats more realistic? nah make him a police officer. more realistic than a bat suit? yep, but Bats lost his soul. just like the Transformers in bayformer$
it looks like you're the one without the open mind. because one movie needs an update does nothing for other movies. the fact that you call it bayformer$ shows your true agenda. and if you think the original show wasnt stupid then you're in need of a reality check. it was so full of cheese and bad plot writing it would be laughed at by todays audience. i still love it. i have a tattoo. but you may be stuck in the 80's if you think the retro-look would fly.
you know its funny how bayformer$ fans always talk down to G1 ''its stupid, it was a toy commersial'' funny that a stupid 80s show got a 07 corky update and many people hate it. oh right ''todays audience'' some would indeed not like G1...but i know kids today that love it, that surprised even me.
many people hate it huh? I guess the 70million dollars worldwide must not amount too that much. or the off-the-charts dvd sales, or movie score, or toy sales that I, a former dockworker for Target, know for sure were sold out almost everywhere.
I'm not talking down about G1. But i WILL call it as it is. you're wrong if you think the majority of people hated it, or the crowd you hang out in is in the minority. either way, reality is different than what you perceive it, stat prove it.
i said ''many hate it'' people liked Matrix 3 more it seems. (made more $) even shrek 3, and Spidey 3. i don't judge a movie based on how mutch money it made, for one it doesn't mean those people liked the movie,(i know alot who saw it AND hated it plus i've seen many reviews, i also know one that thought it was ''okay'') even i bought some of the toys, not bad for a poor made movie. im sure you know alot who did love it.
B, if it says tf, they will try it fans -i guess thats me to- C. fans that can accept anything with tf on the box ''fanboys"? D movie fans -me again- E action fans, but mostly: F ''just wanna see giant fighting robots'' people, who would have enjoyed a true TF movie too.
bayformer$ made $700 million. many fans went too see it too try it. many non-fans went for the kick of the vfx. my guess (based on Star wars and Jurassic park) is that any bay sequel will make less money 400-500 m maybe, maybe even less, sequels too movies like this make less and less, why? well lets look at some: Star wars TPM made 900 mil. but AotC made 500-600 mil. strange huh?
bayformer$ 2 will loose alot of ''lets try it out'' people A only the G1 fans that liked will return, -not me- B same as A, C will all return because it says ''tf'' on the box, D movie fans some will return some will not -like me- E some may think ''seen it'' some will return, F same as E, but most will return. my point? many will not return. and many will,
you're very out of touch with the greater fanbase. TF Animated was panned by nearly everyone because of how childish it was, fan or no. you should probably at least do some research on part of the whole, rather than what you just assume. you can argue the movie all you want, but it was recieved well in almost all circuits, exception being the g1-fanboys.

HAHA! no builup? theres been a fanbase for 20 years people who will try anything with tf of the box, like the okay show animated.
here are movies with and without builup (books/history/comics and 100% original) that made ALOT more. with $700.759.914 bayformer$ did okay. last time i looked it on nr 28 of the worldwide box office. it isnt even in the top 25. it did okay, but nothing special, like say lotr. and i guess you are out of toutch with the greater fanbase, because many say animated is okay, not great but okay. but on this i agree with you, its to kiddy for a tf show...but still better than the 4 shows made before.
by the way. i got 2 dvds how? 1) the 1 disc i got this on from somebody who wanted too see the movie, hated it, and gave it too me ''well youre the tf fan right? no offence but how can you like this stuff?'' i then tried too explane that this had NOTHING too do with the tfs. and that i dont like this movie for more reasons than one, not just the designs. 2) the 2 disc a family member asked me if i would buy it for her, fine i din't pay for it. soon enough i got that one too
like i -and many more tf fans- have said. update the tf look INBETWEEN the G1 and the bay look. this is 3d CGI. i don't want over the top designs like bay, or bland G1 desgins that were made for a 2d animated show. give me something inbetween. use CGI too bring the G1 characters to live in a way that was inposible in the 80s THATS an update! keep the soul alive! (god thats corny!)
note with ''not bland'' i mean a G1-ish look but with more detail. if you are going too use CGI. well then ''use'' in this video its almost there. (Prime's final punch looks a little weak, and Megatron's face can use some fine tuning)
like i said only closedminded bayformer$ fanboys say that ''it would not work because bay said so'' okay lets stop calling each other fanboys. you may think what you want. just as i can have my opinion. im 100% sure a G1-ish (as in 50-100% G1) look would have worked, most people that saw this movie only went to see ''giant fighting robots'' anyway.
How do I can get this vid other than dowloading it from youtube?
I want a great quality version of this vid, but unfortunatly, youtubes videos aren't very high res, a 90% of the time have bad picture q after they've processed them.
Yes, lots of times. And it worked... for this clip. And for me too, actually, but I'm not sure it would've worked for the movie. Clearly someone found a problem with them during production. Hey, I can't be blamed me for the change. :/
I just couldn't believe that they didn't have an art gallery on the TF DVD. Bay explains again and again that they experimented with more G1-accurate designs but apparently they looked ridiculous. But why doesn't he try to SHOW us early works of the TFs so we could see for ourselves? If anything it might offer some clarity about what he was talking about. :S
It should have looked like this (or at least similar) because not only is it more true to the TF look, but it also looks like it would be DRAMATICALLY less expensive to render. This would allow for more screentime for the TFs themselves and not forfeiting so much focus on the many, many human characters.
True. And I'm not saying that these designs (in this video) sucked or anything, gosh no, I love them. Only that there is reason to assume that the general public would be more interested in seeing more, how should I put it, 'realistic' or complicated designs for the robots. Problem with those are, as you said, that they cost extremely much to animate. But I don't think money will get in the way of the second movie, seeing all the cash it brought in.
I just can't imagine how they're going to do it. Apparently giving a TF cast of 12 decent screentime was decent enough, and sure the movie was a financial smash, but with SO MANY MORE Tfs that are rumored to go into TF2, how can they possibly afford to animate every one? <:S
I fear we're going to have to deal with some scrimp appearances or maybe even 'hi-then-die' characters, hope not. I'm sure the main robots will get fairly enough attention, and others will shine as well, though maybe not as brightly as we'd like them to. So yeah, that's a difficult question to answer, to me at least.
i see what you are saying, bayformers wasn't made just for TFs fans, it was meant to appeal to a wider audience........personaly, being a TFs fan, this ruined it for me,(just a bit!!).
i think there is room for this type of movie as well HASBRO...bay took it in a new direction, but the fans of old deserve this...even a 20 minute movie would be suffice...
I just don't get it. How does this look only belong in the 80's, and why SHOULD it? Why wouldn't kids today take the blocky look if kids 20 years ago could (back when there weren't any "g1 purists" to speak of)?
(1) back in the 80s there were many G1 fans angry about the blocky look and.....nah
uhm you know what nobody said anything about the look, that was just what tfs looked (and look) like. it wasn't untill bay (mr.Realistic 2007) that people talked like that ''because bay said so'' others never liked or knew G1, and the movie seems too be made for them! (there are also a few G1-ers that like the ''bionacle'' look)
(2) G1 was made with 80s tech, so 2008-ish G1 should use 2008 tech this (and many cgi fan made) video(s) show how you can make G1 work in the 21 century...
animated (an okay show so far) feels like a step back, its more silly and cartoony than G1 ever was.
if kids today saw a show like this on tv ''for them'' (with G1/BW writing) it would make there heads explode with the coolness of it...just as 80s G1 did in the 80s
i am just pationate about transformers...i will support any and all versions of the series...this is what we the original fans should get though...but who cares what a person who buys every thing they put on the shelves thinks??? i have been ripped off...
They did this on a shoestring budget. Imagine if they had, say, $150 million to work with?
This is so badass words escape me.
The 2007 movie had it's good moments to be sure, but I think the answer to the "best" movie design lies somewhere between THIS and the 2007 film designs. Simple, yet slightly complex.
It is nice to actually be able to tell which TF is which...unlike the new film, shaky camera and all...Hasbro/Takara, please, please, please make this into a new series!!!!!!
I know Bay and co said they tried the G1 bots and it didnt work out, but all things considered, I would hate to see G1 Jazz, Ironhide and Ratchet with completely different voice actors.
Look at X-Men vs X-2 or 3. Whenever they do an intro movie like this, a lot of the characters are subject to backstory, so they can introduce them, and it often goes against the character. Wait until the sequel, thing will get better quick.
I don't want to get into ANOTHER TF e-bickering here, :P, but one big reason that the TFs didn't get a lot of screentime (according to Bay) was that their designs were so complex that rendering them in the computer was becoming too expensive, and thus they were pushed to the background as a cost-saving measure. With as many more TF characters that are rumored to be in TF 2, I can't even begin to imagine how they're going to financially pull it off. O_o
Yeah I did I liked the classics figures from last year as well even though I only have a few of them so I really want more of those in anticipation of the new ones.
This is the most awesome Transformers anything since the movie for me! I have been crying about that freakin' website of Hasbro's but now they showed some guts. This is sick!!!

yeah?
hmmm...
well anyway this looks great...and for a second i thought it was going too say...
''Transformers:the movie 25th anniversary edition''
''coming 2011''
THIS is what a LAM should look like
THIS is what a new tv show should look like
''its not the 80s anymore''
''kids today will not like the blocky look''
sure make them choose between this and animated.
henkman00 4 years ago
I just don't get it. How does this look only belong in the 80's, and why SHOULD it? Why wouldn't kids today take the blocky look if kids 20 years ago could (back when there weren't any "g1 purists" to speak of)?
Bobzeaux 4 years ago 2
(1) back in the 80s there were many G1 fans angry about the blocky look and.....nah
uhm you know what nobody said anything about the look, that was just what tfs looked (and look) like. it wasn't untill bay (mr.Realistic 2007) that people talked like that ''because bay said so'' others never liked or knew G1, and the movie seems too be made for them! (there are also a few G1-ers that like the ''bionacle'' look)
henkman00 4 years ago

Positively sick! I love it!

I know Bay and co said they tried the G1 bots and it didnt work out, but all things considered, I would hate to see G1 Jazz, Ironhide and Ratchet with completely different voice actors.
ganados0 4 years ago
They could find decent replacements, if they actually took the time to LOOK. :P
Bobzeaux 4 years ago
Voice actors was one of the first things they started looking for, and one of the last things they finished before final edit.

You'll have to pardon my skepticism, but I can't believe that with what little TF dialogue was actually put on screen. :S
Bobzeaux 4 years ago
Look at X-Men vs X-2 or 3. Whenever they do an intro movie like this, a lot of the characters are subject to backstory, so they can introduce them, and it often goes against the character. Wait until the sequel, thing will get better quick.
edenfire 4 years ago
I don't want to get into ANOTHER TF e-bickering here, :P, but one big reason that the TFs didn't get a lot of screentime (according to Bay) was that their designs were so complex that rendering them in the computer was becoming too expensive, and thus they were pushed to the background as a cost-saving measure. With as many more TF characters that are rumored to be in TF 2, I can't even begin to imagine how they're going to financially pull it off. O_o

Yeah I did I liked the classics figures from last year as well even though I only have a few of them so I really want more of those in anticipation of the new ones.

I hope that THIS finally puts everyone who says "LIVE-ACTION TFS THAT LOOK LIKE THE CARTOON WOULD BE STUPID!!!!!" in their place.

This is the most awesome Transformers anything since the movie for me! I have been crying about that freakin' website of Hasbro's but now they showed some guts. This is sick!!!

Did you see the pictures of the toys on there?
They are freaking SWEET.

And I was scared that the Animated Series look would forever dominate the future of TFs. <:)
