Xanax is heaven sent "WHEN USED PROPERLY" just like all other medications. Now, if people want to start abusing them, that's a different story. It’s the only thing that controls my panic attacks, with antidepressants. You just have to be a responsible person. I know is a though world out there in these times.

those of u that are addicted to xanax you can eazily beat the addiction with valerian root tincture from gnc....it hits the same gaba receptors and from experience i can tell u that it's super eazy to get off as long as you take valerian root....im so glad im off of it...i was terrible on it...i was a functioning mess and it compelled me to be very rude which was the main reason i had to get off of it...I was calm and rude lol

The clarification missing is that this is about addicts. I've been prescribed Xanax for over a decade with no abuse issues at all. If the woman in the video needed more and became another person it was because she had an addiction. Xanax is actually different from other benzos in several ways. Read the DSM.

But what most of us long term "prescribed" users (me 7 years, and no abuse) don't understand until after years of daily use, is that if you stop taking them, you don't simply return to your previous anxiety level, but a level three times higher, often acccompanied by muscular spasms, horrible insomnia, vertigo, racing thoughts... Until you've missed several doses, you'll never know, but it's like clockwork. "Don't leave home without them!"
I found three bars when I was younger, did some research, and tried it. They were 2mg bars and they honestly didn't do anything for me. II took a bar every other day for a total time span of 6 days. It sucks that it is proven to be such an addicting drug. I could never see myself being addicted to it but science says it can happen so I will never take it again? Will I have any lasting effects of ever taking those 3 2mg bars?

Theres no such the as "the most addictive drug". It varies to much from individuals.
Ive smoked opium, and injected morphine, which is basically the same exact thing as diacetylmorphine, and I still would argue that alcohol is a more addictive drug then opiates for me.
xanax helped me very much with my anxienty for me it was Godsent but you always have to follow the instructions of your doctor because it's highly addictive.Now i'm on minitran it's a very light tranquilizer but it's not so effective as xanax
i take valium an i cant see myself getting addicated to it. I take 2 5mg a day for axiety and help me sleep. it doestnt give me a high it just relieves my axiety. give me a months worth of xanax it will last me 2 months. give me a months worth of oxycodone it will last me 4 days hahahahahahah jk
Also, even if you taper slowly, it doesn't automatically mean reducing the symptoms or reducing the length of the withdrawal syndrome. I'm nearing 12 months off this class of drug after a two year addiction on low doses - still in pain, still a zombie ... it's evil, plain and simple. I was naive enough to believe my doctor who assured me the drug was safe and non-addictive ... I cannot believe how stupid I was to trust her - but she was a doctor, right? It's opened my eyes wide - trust nobody.
I'm sorry, but Xanax will ruin your life. It's great to start with, but you'll become tolerant, have to take more and more ... then when you think, I really should get off this stuff, the ground opens up and you drop straight into hell for at least a year; bound to lose your family, job, friends ... it's worse than heroin, the withdrawal syndrome lasts for months on end, the pain is unimaginable and inescapable ... it also leaves you with subtle brain damage ... heroin doesn't tend to do that.

My doc (like probably tens of thousands) prescribe it for me for 7 years, the last three at high dosages. Five months after he panicked and cut me off after only a six day taper, I'm in hell! Vertigo, insomnia, racing mind crap, hypersensitive to touch, & about 8 other bizarre-ass symptoms. The "job-stress" type of anxiety I originally took it for is almost double, and I have no financial problems to be stressed over!
It was so easy to get so hooked.....I have my doctoral degree...not someone you would expect to be a 'drug addict'. I would be taking 3-4 1mg tabs of xanax. It happened right after my mom died and I was working on my thesis...and I just thought...if wine makes me feel good and xanax makes me feel good...why not combine them? I decided....just cold turkey that that was it. My father and other relatives confronted me and I quit. I now do yoga to relax and have a glass of wine on occasion.
xanax has made a world of difference for me. about a month ago, i had my first real panic attack. i was about to go to sleep and i started shaking, couldn't breathe. it really came out of nowhere. i knew i had depression issues and stuff, but stress can really do a number on your body.
i now use, on average, 1 half of a 0.5mg pill every day/every other day or so. i continue to give myself breaks from it to keep my tolerance low. just don't abuse it and it can be a real life saver.

Hey everyone, I too am an opiate addict. I was using IV heroin everyday for over 4 years. I got on suboxone at first without insurance and had to pay $7 per pill for 90 pills per month plus Dr. fees, which was more than $1000 a month just to stay clean. I've since gotten great insurance which allows me to get all my suboxone for free and I have a lot of extra suboxone scripts left over. I am willing to help anybody out who wants to get clean but doesn't have the funds to do it. pm me...

Starting an exercise program is another thing you want to try. My impression is that exercise causes a cascade of more than 20 neurochemicals - more than researchers can keep up with. This likely replaces the ones that go away after a week or so on Xanax. I was taking 3 mg, but am fit and exercise 5-7 times daily. Was able to taper and quit in one week, with only a little sleeplessness and facial tension. It might be worth a try. Taper Xanax over 3-4 weeks while increasing exercise frequency.
Taper Xanax over 3-4 weeks while gradually increasing the frequency, then at the end intensity of exercise, so that you have 3 days of intense exercise during the last 3 days when you have no Xanax. Another thing I did was to have caffeine and then cut it all the last week (opposing forces/ chemicals). Hope this helps. It was really painless for me.

This shit is no joke i was addicted to prescription pills for 3 years. Mostly Xanax, Oxycontin, Valium, Morphine, Klonipin and other Benzos and Opiates. I overdosed on a mixture of xanax and oxycontin and almost died. After i got out of the hospital i went into treatment and i'm happt to say ive been sober for 2 years now
These pills should be closely monitored and doctors should know of a practical taper method with an individual schedule based on how the patient feels. These medications are more dangerous than heroin. Benzos are taking many lives or turning them upside down and the only one that seems to understand this are the people sick from listening to their doctors. I was on .5 mg only and very sick.
Xanax is not legitimate. I was prescribed from a DOCTOR let me clarify. I listened to my DOCTOR who told me to take it everyday and gave me a four month script. I never had abuse issue. And was only on it for a month when I just stopped taking it and thought I was going to die. It was unlike anxiety. I thought I was having a stroke. It actually is 2-4 weeks to get addicted and it isn't a buzz addiction you take it cause the withdrawals are to much to bear.

My doctor prescribed me Xanax 6 years ago. I took it as suggested by my doctor, but when I tried to stop, I literally was forced to endure the most agony I have ever went through.

I would vomit, convulse and have seizures, have a high fever (usually 102-103), when trying to quit.

I've been taking Xanax on average every other day for a year and my doc says I probably will for the rest of my life because if I don't take it I never leave my house and loose my job and therefor my life.
Unless you took a EXTREMELY retarded amount of xanax, like 17mg-25mg in a short amount of time, or mixed it with another drug. Then theres no way you where even close to death.
Its really hard to fatally OD on benzos, unless you mix it with another drug, like alcohol or opiates.
Taken responsibly and in small doses Xanax, Valium, Ativan, etc. work wonders. All the "benzos" will stop panic or anxiety attacks and allow you to calm down and regain function. Your mind will stop racing and return you to "normal". That's why they are SO addictive, because they work SO well. Be very careful to not become dependant on any of the Benzos. Quit taking them abruptly and you will freak out. Rule #1- Never take more than 2mgs in a day or take more than 4 days in a given week!

small small micro tiny ass amounts with a razorblade until the pieces just kept getting smaller and small over long long periods of time. went from 5mg's a day to like 4mg's a day in one month then 3 eventually can't really remember because i was so stoned on pills. then when i came down to 2mg's a day it was rough. months later the pieces got down to 1. 1 became .5 then .5 became .25 just about to .125 half a .25... then i used the razorblade all the time. took about six months after that
Benzos are pretty weak, safe except in high doses and/or mixed with alcohol or other drugs compared to old-school downers like Barbiturates (rarely prescribed these days, because of higher dependence and greater risk of coma/death in overdose). Barbs sometimes trip you out-then knock you out.
Psych meds are dangerous nasty sh!t. Anyone who wants to get off them should be encouraged but be advised that it is very important to taper off slowly, just like with benzos and other pharmaceutical drugs.
As for anyone who thinks they're doing better since they started taking them, you'd probably feel the same way if you were taking heroin or speed. or whatever. No disrespect, but maybe you need to own your sh!t. Recognize that you're human and that you don't need to be perfect, or drugged!
I'm very fortunate to have never had the urge to abuse my Xanax prescription. Taking one 1mg time release everyday along with my other meds makes me live my life, before I had Xanax implemented into my daily medication regiment my anxiety was much much more severe; to the point of agoraphobia.

She should have talked to her doctor when she realized she was experiencing dependency; what she did was outrageous. Xanax is not a problem. The clarification missing is that this is about addicts. I've been prescribed Xanax for over a decade with no abuse issues at all. If the woman in the video needed more and became another person it was because she had an addiction. Xanax is actually different from other benzos in several ways. Read the DSM.

I found three bars when I was younger, did some research, and tried it. They were 2mg bars and they honestly didn't do anything for me. II took a bar every other day for a total time span of 6 days. It sucks that it is proven to be such an addicting drug. I could never see myself being addicted to it but science says it can happen so I will never take it again? Also, even if you taper slowly, it doesn't automatically mean reducing the symptoms or reducing the length of the withdrawal syndrome. I'm nearing 12 months off this class of drug after a two year addiction on low doses - still in pain, still a zombie ... it's evil, plain and simple. I was naive enough to believe my doctor who assured me the drug was safe and non-addictive ... I cannot believe how stupid I was to trust her - but she was a doctor, right? It's opened my eyes wide - trust nobody.

I'm sorry, but Xanax will ruin your life. It's great to start with, but you'll become tolerant, have to take more and more ... then when you think, I really should get off this stuff, the ground opens up and you drop straight into hell for at least a year; bound to lose your family, job, friends ... it's worse than heroin, the withdrawal syndrome lasts for months on end, the pain is unimaginable and inescapable ... it also leaves you with subtle brain damage ... heroin doesn't tend to do that.

My doc (like probably tens of thousands) prescribe it for me for 7 years, the last three at high dosages. Five months after he panicked and cut me off after only a six day taper, I'm in hell! Vertigo, insomnia, racing mind crap, hypersensitive to touch, & about 8 other bizarre-ass symptoms. The "job-stress" type of anxiety I originally took it for is almost double, and I have no financial problems to be stressed over!

It was so easy to get so hooked.....I have my doctoral degree...not someone you would expect to be a 'drug addict'. I would be taking 3-4 1mg tabs of xanax. It happened right after my mom died and I was working on my thesis...and I just thought...if wine makes me feel good and xanax makes me feel good...why not combine them? I decided....just cold turkey that that was it. My father and other relatives confronted me and I quit. I now do yoga to relax and have a glass of wine on occasion.

xanax has made a world of difference for me. about a month ago, i had my first real panic attack. i was about to go to sleep and i started shaking, couldn't breathe. it really came out of nowhere. i knew i had depression issues and stuff, but stress can really do a number on your body.
i now use, on average, 1 half of a 0.5mg pill every day/every other day or so. i continue to give myself breaks from it to keep my tolerance low. just don't abuse it and it can be a real life saver.

Hey everyone, I too am an opiate addict. I was using IV heroin everyday for over 4 years. I got on suboxone at first without insurance and had to pay $7 per pill for 90 pills per month plus Dr. fees, which was more than $1000 a month just to stay clean. Starting an exercise program is another thing you want to try. My impression is that exercise causes a cascade of more than 20 neurochemicals - more than researchers can keep up with. This likely replaces the ones that go away after a week or so on Xanax. I was taking 3 mg, but am fit and exercise 5-7 times daily. Was able to taper and quit in one week, with only a little sleeplessness and facial tension. It might be worth a try. Taper Xanax over 3-4 weeks while increasing exercise frequency.

Another thing I did was to have caffeine and then cut it all the last week (opposing forces/ chemicals). Hope this helps. It was really painless for me.

These pills should be closely monitored and doctors should know of a practical taper method with an individual schedule based on how the patient feels. These medications are more dangerous than heroin. Benzos are taking many lives or turning them upside down and the only one that seems to understand this are the people sick from listening to their doctors. I was on .5 mg only and very sick.

Xanax is not legitimate. I was prescribed from a DOCTOR let me clarify. I listened to my DOCTOR who told me to take it everyday and gave me a four month script. I never had abuse issue. And was only on it for a month when I just stopped taking it and thought I was going to die. It was unlike anxiety. I thought I was having a stroke. It actually is 2-4 weeks to get addicted and it isn't a buzz addiction you take it cause the withdrawals are to much to bear.

My doctor prescribed me Xanax 6 years ago. I took it as suggested by my doctor, but when I tried to stop, I literally was forced to endure the most agony I have ever went through.
I am shocked that this drug is still legal.
I would vomit, convulse and have seizures, have a high fever (usually 102-103), when trying to quit.
I was addicted, and was sent to Rehab. I have not taken Xanax in since September 13, 2008.

The LD50 of xanax is ridiculously high.
Unless you took a EXTREMELY retarded amount of xanax, like 17mg-25mg in a short amount of time, or mixed it with another drug. Then theres no way you where even close to death.
Its really hard to fatally OD on benzos, unless you mix it with another drug, like alcohol or opiates.

Taken responsibly and in small doses Xanax, Valium, Ativan, etc. work wonders. All the "benzos" will stop panic or anxiety attacks and allow you to calm down and regain function. Your mind will stop racing and return you to "normal". That's why they are SO addictive, because they work SO well. Be very careful to not become dependant on any of the Benzos. Quit taking them abruptly and you will freak out. Rule #1- Never take more than 2mgs in a day or take more than 4 days in a given week!

small small micro tiny ass amounts with a razorblade until the pieces just kept getting smaller and small over long long periods of time. went from 5mg's a day to like 4mg's a day in one month then 3 eventually can't really remember because i was so stoned on pills. then when i came down to 2mg's a day it was rough. months later the pieces got down to 1. 1 became .5 then .5 became .25 just about to .125 half a .25... then i used the razorblade all the time. took about six months after that

Benzos are pretty weak, safe except in high doses and/or mixed with alcohol or other drugs compared to old-school downers like Barbiturates (rarely prescribed these days, because of higher dependence and greater risk of coma/death in overdose). Barbs sometimes trip you out-then knock you out.

Psych meds are dangerous nasty sh!t. Anyone who wants to get off them should be encouraged but be advised that it is very important to taper off slowly, just like with benzos and other pharmaceutical drugs.
