if you think about the emotional and psychological reaction you have to the phrases "husband and wife band" versus "brother and sister band" at the beginning of this interview - and think about the way each of these concepts would play out in the world of rock and entertainment media - I think it is obvious why they chose to go the way they did.
its all mystery on purpose. and thats what I love about it. I can fill in the gaps however i want becasue the music lets that happen. Who cares whether they were brother and sister. what matters is the songwriting people. still scary good though
They were married, then divorced, but stayed together, and I'd imagine it was a lot easier to just say they were brother and sister than to have to keep explaining that all the time. The fact they look kind of similar probably helped that along.
thanks, i looked it up only after i wrote this comment. i read somewhere that they said they were brother and sister from when they were just getting popular to about 2001, when a newspaper figured it out. they said later that they did it to keep some privacy in their private lives.
I read the book, Fell In Love With a Band, and the original idea Jack had was to make a band that had the black, white and red colors. The back story was meant to be two young kids find instruments in their house's attic and learn to play. But when this interview took place they were married. They were married from 96, or maybe 97 until 2001.
Jack and Meg REALLY hate their biographies, especially Fell In Love With A Band. Either, it isn't factual at all, or it is too true and tells too much of their secrets. But I think it is the first scenario. Also, they were married from 96 to 2000.
I don't know who "they" is referring to, but if you don't realise that anybody at all in the media or publishing is fully prepared to publish bullshit, then you're a moron.
zerowhitestripes, id like you to know that i just read that book and theunionforever, i think its probably the second scenario because thats the one book where they dont tell that story about how they met in a bar because if that was true meg wouldve been too young to work there anyway so yeah but w/e's true, we love them :)

Trust me, its fact, they wouldn't publish bullshit lies. Where did you hear they hate biographies? I hope it wasn't in a biography.
