Davey probably just feels he is over most of the songs he wrote about 20 years ago and feels that AFI has improved, which is good. Whatever their fans may think, isn't it most important that the band members feel good about how they are evolving musically? Also, it can't be nice when people claim that something you made 20 years ago is your best work to date, when you really just want to forget it.
That said, Davey dances like a chicken in this video :).
@PupSchoonagliffen well you dont personally know Davey Havok so you are not in any position to speculate on his opinions of where the band came from. Davey is still 100% hardcore.
@persevereandovercum Well, I am sorry if I have in any way offended you. That was not my intention. When I said that it was speculation it was only to say that I did not claim my opinion to be the truth. It was just my thoughts, and I still believe I have a right to think. Sorry for sharing them here :). Have a nice day.
@titancrusher1 I handed this to Smith when AFI came to Mexico 3 years ago. I asked him to give them to Jade, because I know Davey denies/is ashamed of AFI's past.
The 1st 3 albums is like my favourite stuff by any band-after that for me it's just boring. If they played like this still I'd try to go see them everytime they rolled by.
and they still play a lot of their old stuff live. Their shows have a lot of variety, it's really amazing. And they can still play with the same intensity as they did back then.
So... Triple Zero, This Secret Ninja... Love is a Many Splendored Thing. Ny Quill. I could go on... not old stuff? Maybe you could define "old" for me. I didn't say they only play old stuff, that's insane... but they do give fans a decent amount given that they have 8 full-lengths and a fair amount of EPs and B-sides.
Maybe if they played all 4 of those songs at one show. You're lucky if you get at least 2 old songs at a show.
Their set lists are so predictable now. First track on their newest CD (Torch Song), followed by Girl's Not Grey and Leaving song part 2. Mix about 6 songs from STS, 4 songs from DU, and 5 from CL and 2 old songs and you have a current AFI show.
@DanReligion they played half-empty bottle when i saw them. You wouldn't expect it but they actually played it really good. But the crowd sucked cuz they were mostly emos and so it was me and 3 other kids running around
If you think about it.....their music has always had emotion.....in fact all music has emotion.....without emotion music would be pretty bland, unless that's what you like.
This is like 3 months too late but I mean if you listen to all of their records in order you can hear how they change. Black Sails in the Sunset is their best album IMO. That was their peak.
@DanReligion they are now. their older albums are their best ever, one of my favorite albums along side The Misfits, Black Flag, and other punk legend bands.
apparently their current new album they are working on is supposed to be "more straightforward" according to the guitarist. hmm...maybe a step back to the older days???
im hoping so. medicate sounds alright. but i read somewhere that all the songs are going to be somewhat different from each other or sumthin. so you cant really get much of a feel for the cd from one song.
probly because afi will be watching every begintransmission vid personally and pablo wants them to see there old selves. dont take this as the real reason though, i dont fucking know. ask him.
@RAMMSTEINERD of course crash love is like black sails in the sunset. "darling i want to destroy you" is so much like "the last kiss". they also also have the same amount of screaming in it.
It's too bad they didn't stick with their punk roots. None of their newer stuff sounds anything like punk.

What I wouldn't give to be able to go back in time and see some early AFI shows. Darn being born too late. I mean, I love all AFI, but still...

hey arent these guys supposed to be sellouts or somethin now?
GoodSydeBill 1 year ago
do NOT fuck up the opening harmonic chords of this song, those chords pump the crowd up for the coming storm once the drums kick in right after.

Dude, AFI would love you if you sent them a Copy of this

@TheSecretNinja337 woah davey doesn't like afi's past??? do you know why?? they were so good back then and even now why would he not like that??
PitbeastA 1 year ago
@TheSecretNinja337 ashamed of their past? I guess he doesn't understand that half of their true fans actually prefer the old stuff to the new.

@TheSecretNinja337 How do you know Davey's ashamed? There's no way he could be

@TheSecretNinja337 he shouldn't, he should be ashamed of AFI's present

@TheSecretNinja337 Where did you hear that "Davey denies/is ashamed of AFI's past"?
kyle1255 9 months ago
@TheSecretNinja337 Davey has never tried to deny AFI's past? And he's never shown that he is ashamed of it? Where are you getting this from?
