  • for me this song is up there with others like 'Creep'

weird that they put this one on the b-side and it goes largely ignored.

Someone will redo it one day and it'll become a classic, mark my words.

  • "If fashion is your trade

    Then when you're naked

I guess you must be unemployed

    yeah."

    Amazing.

Who write like this - in song?

  • Easily my favourite song on the album. One of the VERY few albums I can listen to from beginning to end and not skip a single song! Classic!

  • The forgotten classic on Different Class. Just a fantastic song off of my favourite album of the Britpop era.

  • best song on different class. amazing!

  • If you close your eyes and just remember,

that this is what you wanted last night.

So why is it so hard for you to touch her.

For you to go and give yourself to her?

  • This video was just added to a music playlist at JustPlay.fm

  • 8 people are...wait, I'm original

  • @GabKesen. Too right - fantasic tune, words, funny & tragic all one.

  • tuneaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • This is from one hot big album full of genius.

  • God please take me back to the 90s!

  • @oz1641

Here you are son, you moved me. Now enjoy them better.

  • perfect...

  • Such astounding music I can barely comprehend. I am agog.

  • thank you for this post....i could see Bowie doing this song....but Pulp is hot

  • This is number 32 on a list The Best 50 Album Tracks (that weren't hits) in the Sunday Telegraph. Should be higher!

  • this song rocks, but must say guy goes round stirling does a much better cover

  • oh dear. these comments dont warrant his time and effort spent producing making and performing such a track. continously, with the same enthusiasm for the past 1 6 years. Radiohead? Sheffield irony awaits you..

  • Nothing like Bowie........

Bowie is a total different kettle of fish.

Both are good songwriters and artist's though.........

  • He does have an amazing voice though. Even on the radio, when he is talking.

He is cool as a cucumber ......

  • I'm not sure which came first, but this song is very similar to creep.

  • love the beggining<3

"if you can close your eyes, and just remember..." i love his voice

  • This song is pretty good. And it has a great influence from a Bowie´s song Space Odissey.

  • @algarcia1970 ..no it doesnt. u big stain.

  • awesome song :) very bowie though? wat ya think ?

  • @jake011492 totally agree. very bowie.

  • @SoxxieScreeeeeeam apart from the lyrics yes

  • @martinhotesha well yeah, bowies lyrics can never be matched let alone beaten.

  • @SoxxieScreeeeeeam no chance bowie but pink floyld another league

  • is it just me or can we ALL relate to every song on different class ???? Top band and great lyrics

  • Sublime, where have all the lyricists gone today.Take this period - Morrissey, Cocker, Gedge - they all championed the losers in love. Box bedroom dreaming, on the sidelines, the lover that lost. Pulp's best album.

  • im 16, i love pulp and jarvis cocker, half of my mates have no idea who they are, its tragically sad, they listen to songs about 'love', the lyrics are complete crap to the genuis of songs like this!

  • @c1707007 same mate lol

  • there are times that you fall in love with songs!

  • AMAZING SONG .. one of my favourites ..

  • i couldnt stop it now........

  • This entire album reminds me of the summer of 96, what great, great days there were :))

  • I'd give my whole life to see it.!!!!

  • dreamy

  • Good song

  • OH GOD I LOVE THIS SONG.

  • Hehe

  • SUPER FUNNY!

  • Genius

  • Why don't you shut the door, and close the curtains, cos you're not going anywhere. He's coming up the stairs, and in a moment he'll want to see your underwear. You couldn't stop it now. There's no way to get out. He's standing far too near. How the hell did you get here. Semi-naked in somebody else's room. I'd give my whole life to see it. Just you, stood there, only in your underwear.

  • If fashion is your trade,

    then when you're naked,

I guess you must be unemployed yeah.

    Cos once it's underway,

    there's no escaping,

the fact that you're a girl and he's a boy.

  • You couldn't stop it now. There's no way to get out. He's standing far too near. How the hell did you get here. Semi-naked in somebody else's room. I'd give my whole life to see it. Just you, stood there, only in your underwear. If you close your eyes and just remember, that this is what you wanted last night. So why is it so hard for you to touch him. For you to go and give yourself to him?
  • I couldn't stop it now. There's no way to get out. He's standing far too near. How the hell did you get here, semi-naked in somebody else's room. I'd give my whole life to see it. Just you, stood there, only in your underwear. Do, do do do do. Do, do. Do, do. Do, do, do, do, do. Do, do. Do, do. Oh yeh, I want to see you. Want to see you standing in your underwear.

  • what an amazing b side!

  • buena cancion para hacer "el amor"

  • ha-cer-el-a-mor...

  • love this song! n_n ♥

  • This song was on a Common People single.

  • What an album this is, full of great tunes with inspired lyrics. We love you Jarvis.

  • I love this song :) Pulp always makes right good tunes.

  • love this song, his lyrics are always funny and ironic

  • EXCELENTE TEMA.

  • I love it. I have fallen in love with this song like right away. Oh jarvis...<3333

  • my favourite love song...

  • deb loved this tune. good times

  • favorite. song. ever.

  • oh f _ _ k yeah.

    what a great record.

  • If fashion is your trade,

    then when you're naked,

I guess you must be unemployed yeah.

  • @JayAr02 Paddy says thanks; he can't hear for himself so needs people to transcribe the words for him.

  • Loving it

  • Arise, Sir Jarvis of Sheffield....

  • why dont you shut the door

    and close the curtains

  • I love this song!!!

  • jarvis is the dude indeed, am lucky enough to live in sheffield, and have met him a couple of times in pubs, saw him last year for his solo album, and he was just great, pulp is the best of british for the past 20/30 years!

  • a true lyrical genius, is our jarvis. quite brilliant.

  • I dedicate this beautiful song to Dave Gahan, just for the hell of it! Thank you Jarvis!

  • Their best song. As so many have said, criminally under-rated.

  • Different Class was exactly that, a different class. There are only two albums/CDs I've heard where I've loved every track. Parallel Lines by Blondie was one (I'm 46), the other was Different Class. The best Britpop band by far, Brilliantly written songs and performed in true style. Jarvis, you are the dude.

  • Different Class is deffinatley one of the best albums-this song was the best on it.

  • Just brilliant. Everything that's great about Pulp. A hugely underrated tune.

  • yes, hugely under-rated. but that was always part of Pulp's allure, they were a secret, their music was great but inexplicably they weren't huge. and that suited us fine. their material from 1994 onwards must surely rank as among the best of british pop in any era. the sheer quality of their music is breathtaking. and this song sums them up.

  • I mean PULP....doh!!

  • I really wish I had'nt got rid of all my Pilp CD's now!

  • I still have a crush on Jarvis.

  • I'm into fucking some mad shit, but this tune, is a fucking tune.

Can't deny a good song writer. Class.

  • Radiohead's Creep comes to mind

  • my favorite pulp song

  • I hope another band as good as pulp comes along one day.

  • thats never going to happen.....good to hope

  • my third favourite pulp song after disco 2000 and babies. jarvis is too good to be true(:

  • does any1 no what this song is about please???is he having a threesome?or hiding in a cuboard??? fucking quality either way

  • Adultery perhaps? Jarvis up to his old tricks?

  • being drunk and realizing god exsis

  • The morning after a drunken one night stand perhaps?

  • The protagonist (Jarvis, if it's from his pov) is thinking about a girl he'd like to have who is with somebody else. I assume he's fantasising that she doesn't really want to be with this other man, but at the same time he wants to be that other man, just to see her in her underwear. :] Genius song.

  • 1.46 that guitar solo aahh. Of all the britpop bands Pulp had the most emotion and feeling in their songs. And they had fun and self reflection in their lyrics. Just scenes out of a regular's person's life.

  • This guy does rubbish lyrics that make so much sense better than anyone. Saw them in Melbs in 98 and this went bananas. They wrote such a good keyboard line to this it isn't funny.

  • damn, wish i could've. although i only just got into them...and i would have been 7 at the time...

  • they are such a friggin genius band! so underrated, so experimental. yet really catchy and honest. Love it. oh and jarvis is gorgeous haha

  • love love love this song. jarvis at his best

  • Tune :D

  • Does'nt this remind you of some some 70s-8-s David bowie? So pretty :)

  • i want to live this song

  • fuckin ace

  • I like the "aw jesus!" part. that's so great.

  • I love that "Ah!" he makes around 1:13 after he says "You're a girl, and he's a boy."

  • terrific song - abso-god-dam-lutley love PULP

  • bu hahaha underwear.... I love it

  • I usually find checkers is quite fun.
